I guess you've never been hunting or target shooting. Yes, some people use handguns for hunting.

I've hunted extensivly in my lifetime and never run into a situation whre a handgun was usefull.

I have to.....must resist....have to....noooooo resist....agree with lomiller on this one. I do a lot of hunting and no one here hunts with handguns.

http://www.handgunhunt.com/index.php (an entire company devoted to handgun hunting)

It exists. And as Lomiller pointed out, if he hunted extensively, he would have known this.

Not saying it is illegal...I am saying I have never seen anyone hunt with a handgun in 30 years. After thinking about it, it makes sense. You arn't going to get anything with a handgun around here unless you are extreamly lucky,  so why should they care if you use one.  They restrict stuff that give you advantage like lasers.

Around were I live, most people hunt small game (rabbits, squirrels, pheasant, duck, etc) with deer being the big holiday. Although we do occasionally bag a random Iowan mountain lion...

At any rate, most people 'round these here parts eat the things they kill. It's for this reason that I was taught not to use handguns because they ruin the meat. This also goes for deer. I have heard of people using handguns to hunt with, but I've never actually seen it.

I really don't have an opinion on the matter but I'm always a little surprised by the American mentality. In my country we had a lack of gun control which culminated in a severe massacre over a decade ago, when a madman got his hands on some semiautomatic weapons. After that happened there was great public outcry for gun control and the government at the time implemented a very strict gun control program. I don't know the exact policy but I think semi/automatic weapons of any type were banned out right and the number of rifles you could own was limited. You also had to be licensed for different types of guns e.g. rifle license to hold and own a rifle at your property only for farmers and all guns were registered. As a result hundreds of thousands of fire arms had to be confiscated. There was a minority of protesters mainly farmers including my grandfather but even the majority of the protesters believed something had to be done they were just upset by the severity of the new laws. Ten years on I don't think many people even notice the gun control laws. there has however been a large decrease in gun crime and never been any kind of mass shooting since, gun crimes are very rare. Just surprising that given the huge number of massacres that have taken place in the US and the large number of gun crimes that occur every year that most people don't want stricter gun controls. Obviously farmers can still use rifles them and there are always shooting ranges, what else do you need them for if they take most of them off the streets?

p.s. whats the deal with Americans being paranoid about their federal government and communists? I swear half of you think red dawn happened.

sorry to all non US Americans by the way, just  easier to refer to people form the  US as Americans.

I would say the main reason is, it is written in our constitution that we have the right to bear arms. We are the only country I know of that has that. (maybe Switzerland?) Our constitution is very hard to change, unlike countries like France's that are changing all the time. So instead of doing things the right way and change the constitution, our lawmakers try the lazy way and enact gun control laws aginst the will of the people.

I wouldn't say it is so much fear of the government but fear that the government can't protect us. Gun violence is a symptom of the cesspools our cities have become. It isn't the cause.

I have to disagree. The US constitution should not be altered because of current events and prejudices. Once you do that you sacrifice everything

I am not saying it should be altered but that it is the correct way to do it. Not by going around the constitution.

I call bullshit on this statement.

I agree with you (hence I never really debated the subject with daeandor....cant debate with someone who isn't honest).

Any moderate hunter (some who does it one or twice a season) knows you can hunt with certain types of handguns. His explanation of him hunting extensivly in his lifetime just screams shananigans to me as well.

LOL liars trying to excuse their dishonesty by claiming everyone else must be as well.   Get some integrity, and I’ll continue discussing things with you.

You are a liar. How old are you? If you're a hunter you would know there are many sub groups in the hunting community. There are rifle hunters, handgun hunters, bow hunters. primitive weapon hunters (make there weapons out of what the find in the forest/field. These hunters are allow to hunt all year round), etc. While most hunters stick to with weapons that they are use too, there are some hunters that  do cross over.

People that believe the 2nd amendments only applied to hunting are stuck on stupid.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Where does it said hunting or implied hunting in the 2nd amendment. It doesn't. Period. Thinking is good, unfortunately the public school system doesn't teach it anymore.

Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas are original constitutionist. In other words they do not believe in a living constitution. They believe that the constitution should be interpret as the founders intended to be. That's why the majority opinion was written by Antonin Scalia.

The 2nd amendment battle is not over. The Supreme Court has to clarify the phase "shall not be infringed". I would like to see how the liberal judges interpret these simple four worlds.

Google is your friend.
