Curse you Anzie, you beat me to making that point....... I bought a new rig to play Vanguard, but, regardless of my opinion of Vanguard, at the end of the day, I still have a nice rig. I do believe counting the cost of a system upgrade to the cost of a game is a tad bit unfair.
What happened to upgrading your system to stay current? Upgrading for the sake of playing one game often leads to disappointment in my experience. |

I let my system get old and outdated, stretching it as far as I can. Eventually I hit that brick wall that my system will just not be able to play the newest games coming out. Still, many of those games I can live without, knowing full well that, in 6 months or so, the retail price will drop, and I can buy it cheaper when I finally do upgrade. Then a game comes out like Vanguard. Like many, I bought into the hype, and made my decision to upgrade at the time of launch so that I could share that special Vanguard experience we all know and love. That is what I mean when I say I upgrade to play a specific game. Had I not bought into the Vanguard hype, I would never have played games like Oblivion, or Company of Heroes, for example. Nothing since Vanguard has really grabbed my attention. My game purchases have been very sparse over the last couple of years. Currently I'm stretching my system again. I have an ATI graphics card, which AOC has problems with. I could buy a new graphics card and AOC, but from what I see, why bother? If AOC gets more content in another year, I'll re-evaluate. Right now I just don't see any games that I want bad enough to upgrade.

As much as I would like to upgrade my system just for the sake of staying current, at the rate technology changes I can't really afford to do that. I'm guessing that the reason why people upgrade for the sake of playing a particular game is because in reality they have been putting of upgrading as long as possible due to financial constraints in RL. That's why it often isn't such a big deal if the new game doesn't turn out as expected, since it was something that was necessary anyway. |

I have been watching these forum's for some years, and hardly post. I still don't understand why so many people, waste there own personal time making ridiculous threads and attacking "insert a game", and I can only reiterate whats been said before, "if you don't like the game, don't play it, but keep your negativity to yourself". Ok I felt the urge to respond to a post here. I have played AOC from lvl 1 - 80, and can simply say I have really enjoyed it, and will be carrying on, until I've had enough, simple as that. There are no more bugs in at the realise of this mmo, then any others I've played, and I've played most of them. I can say from level 1 to 80, I came across 3 bugged quests, thats it. What did I do, dropped the quests and did others instead. The problem I see with the negative responses in this post, and similar posts, is that those people who are commonly refered to as "trolls", just rant on in a very vauge manner, about whats wrong with a game, e.g. its missing loads of features, its bugged, the producers are a bunch of liers, "insert vauge complaint here". In relation to this thread, If you actually read back most of the negative posts here, are basically along the lines of "they lied about the features", or "its missing all the things they said it would include." I followed this game from the start to the finish of its development, and I have no disappointment in the features of this game. It has great pvp, player cities, large world, excellent graphics, mounted combat, multiple character class's, to name a handful. Yes some features were dropped during development as generally happens with any other MMO, but we were informed of this, as the development progressed At final release, I got what I expected, from the information that the developers had given to the community, through the development of the game. If you have never played the game and are wasting your time posting negative stuff, then you need to look at your life, and look at what you are doing with your time. Give your time to something more positive, and you will become a happier person. If you have played the game and don't like it, thats your opinion which you are very much entitled to, but don't make a personal vendetta with a game that you choose to pay for, and then go on a revenge crusade to destory its reputation. If you think you can destroy the subscriptions of a game, through negative posting, you will again become Mr Negative, and you need to get a life. All I do when I have paid for a game I don't think suits me, is say "oh well its only $30 bucks, and I can always sell it on ebay". Some games I've come back to on a rainy day and enjoyed later. For those people who spend silly amounts of time, posting negative comments on the development of games which haven't been released, then you are the biggest wasters of all. Personally I'm looking forward to Darkfall, Aion, War, Jumpgate, Chronicles of Spellborn, and others. If they don't release, then hey, its not a problem, if they do release and are poor games, then I'll wait for something else. All I'm saying is why waste hours and days of your life being negative, just get on with life, and post constructive stuff / info on games you want to play!!! Finally I would also like to say that most of the developers working hard to make these games are good guys / girls, they work long hours, and are in this industry because they love making games. So when I hear people calling them, liers, full of crap, "insert negative personal comments", its disturbs me. Just give these guys a break, they don't hate you, so don't hate them. Ok thats 10 mins of my time given up, I might post again in another few months or years. |
