I just got off a 2 month stint in LOTRO and I found it so boring after awhile because theres just really no challenge and your hand is held through the entire game. Even the PVP is easy mode. Went back to EQ2 for a bit and while its more complex for sure its so easy now as well (has me wishing it was more like it used to be even though I didnt like it back then). So with Vanguard is it a real challenge? I know it is heralded as an old school type RPG but people say the player classes are really overpowered now in PVE. If it is complex/hard I intend on upgrading my comp and giving it a shot. |

Well - I can only compare it with Lineage 2 and singleplayer games, and then no, its not really that hard. Some classes, such as Dread Knight, may even manage to do some of the group content, if they have good gear and know how to play their class. Its definitely complex and interesting, though. I would love it if every game after Vanguard would have such complex and rich classes, but alas, it probably wont happen. Vanguard is officially seen as a failure, therefore games will continue to copy WoW instead. |

Vanguard is very much like the Old EQ.. not difficult by any means as none bar Eve really are. You feel powerful, have a nice aray of armours along with boats, flying mounts and horses, now with faction pets.. Looks Great and a nice community... Dont expect too much difference from any other game, just in this one you dont die from being weak every 10 secs, old school mmo with modern graphics. Its Sony so expect Eq1 * Eq2 |

Hence its SOE, and we all know SOE stick to a formula so no need to correct with sillyness thanks. |

Thanks for the advice, I have another question though about crafting. Ive never really played a pure crafter class in an MMO before, is that possible in Vanguard? Ive heard the craft system is pretty good, but can you make any money doing it? |

For the cheap retail price of the game if you say get from Ebay , its worth alteast 1 month subs to give it a go. I like it

Fact is VG is much easier than as it was at the release. Nevertheless the game is still more difficult than other mainstream games released lately (WoW, LOTRO, TR, AoC..) It is truth that you feel powerful in VG, because each class has tons of distinctive abilities (disciple can ressurect others, summon others, heal without mana, let others ressurect him, feign death, 5 different buffs, 7 different debuffs...) but still one mistake and you're dead. If you underestimate the area you will make a wrong pull (or stand at wrong place) and youll die. It is almost impossible to run from combat once you engage without dying and if you die you get XP death penalty and all your BoE items stay on corpse. Vets say VG is easy now, but that is really in compare to how VG was at release. Partially the difficulty is lowered at higher levels (after level 35+) , but it might be a nightmare for levels 6-20 if you are used to Lotro only. It is quite common to see threads on official forums by newcommers saying the game is too difficult. |

I will say that some classes are a little more powerful then some of the other classes in soloing PvE. But vanguard isn't really built around soloing, alot more group stuff to do then solo. It has a dot system, mobs will have 1 dot up to 6 dots. 1dot being very easy 6 dot being boss/named type mobs. The beginner quests from about lvl 1-15ish, are 1 dot monsters and 2 dot monsters with a few 3dot monsters. The challenge sets in quite abit at around lvl 15-20ish. once you hit lvl 25+ most of the quests you get will be for 3dot/4dot mobs. 3dot being kinda easy depending on your class, 4 dot being pretty hard, few classes can solo 4dots relativily easy, then others just get owned by 4dots. I dont see how people say this game is just easy, It took me quite awhile to hit lvl 29 on my paladin. And the ammount of times I have died is way more then I can count. And you LOSE XP when killed. All in all, I have had a ok experience with VG. Great community, fun group gameplay. If your looking to max a character out in a week or two, then stay away from vg. Things dont come very easy in vg. |
