The thing you forget is that Sigil had no other revenue source besides Vanguard, and when that tanked, the company went under and most people got the sack.

Icarus, on the other hand, has already sold/licensed their MMO making tool set to several other companies, so they have money coming in. The devs have said they can/will self-publish if that is the right decision for them, and all but said SOE will not be touching their game. And nothing certain "haters" can say will change that.

Go read more about it on the official forums and get it from what the devs have said themselves.

And this game deserves better than the Station Pass Graveyard, regardless.....

My point is, even if a company is about to tank soon, the owners will still make public statements that everything is running well, and that there are enough funds for everything etc. etc.

If there are no funds, they need another publisher, and if they get to choose SOE, no fanboi can change that.

And I am no FE hater by the way

But SOE is only one major publisher, so even if Icarus runs out of money, it is not set in stone that SOE will buy it up (could also be EA, or Funcom or whatever). However, if it will end up in SOE's hands, there will be a looooot of sad faces among all the NGE haters, hehe.

i wouldn't touch it. and i think icarus knows what would happen if they made that move.

I will never give another dime to SOE as long as Smedley is still part of management.  Everything they touch turns to crap.

That right there is in fact the truth of the matter... even if FE fans don't want to hear/believe it. Not at all to suggest that is the case, but if it was, FE's developers would very likely not say anything until they could no longer keep a lid on it.

Personally Im not quite sure why there is such hate aimed at SOE, and why people say they are such a bad publisher/developer anyway. They have published one of the most popular MMO's of all time (EQ), and saved two other games from early cancelation (Pirates of the Burning Sea, and The Matrix)... something most Publishers wouldn't bother doing. Then there is Star Wars Galaxies.... which brings with it a love hate relationship for allot of people, but even with its rocky past it still has a fairly healthy playerbase and more active players then Tabula Rasa, which was suppose to be the next best thing in gameing.

The only large group of people that have any serious complaint with SOE are the Jedi of SWG who were screwed over with the NGE. Spending countless hours to build a character, only to be told "Hey, now some noob can do that in a couple days" would really piss anyone off... especially when there was very little compensation. And perhaps people who really were in love with the absolute RPG pre-NGE combat of Galaxies, and had their game removed in a matter of weeks, with almost no warning...... thats the only really huge blunder SOE has ever made as far as I can tell.

But the problem there is as the SWG devs always said, SWG has one of the most vocal groups of players there is... and pissing off even a small percentage of them, causes a ton of out cry... which is likely why it seems like everyone really hates SOE. Who knows tho, thats just my thought on the matter....

If FE LLC is going to self-publish, they will need to do a lot - and mean A LOT - more marketing around this title. Even people who follow MMOs don't really know what it is about or what it offers. Beta will help, but FE could easily get crushed underfoot of another MMO that gets more attention around the same time as they launch if they aren't careful.

If FE is self-published, then they take all the risk and the costs of getting the game on the shelves or via download. They will need to have someone managing the physical distribution of their product. Self-publishing their first MMO would be pretty ambitious for an unproven MMO studio.

It's more likely they will go with an existing publisher. If not SOE, then there is NCsoft or EA that have MMO publishing experience. There are some smaller game publishers that FE could end up with, but those with MMO experience would be very thin on the ground indeed.

It's quite obvious you don't really have a clue as to what happened with SWG,it wasn't about jedi and 80% of a player base isn't a small percentage.

To the point at hand, and the OP's question.

Fallen Earth looks really promising.you should check out their board and the question of the week posts.

As to comparing it to SWG pre-cu..In my opinion,it looks to be the closest thing to come along yet.But go see for your self.Open ended seamless world,no levels, skill based,a crap load of professions to pick from, mix and match as you like, limited pvp (thank god).and people making it that are taking their time and trying to do it right.

From what i understand, its almost as Pre CU SWG. You gain skill points when you "level up".  But alot more skills and more ways to gain "xp". So the level wont say that much about how powerful a character are.

Still....its skill based : )

Can you 'unlearn' or otherwise divest yourself of some skillsets you have previously acquired if you want to take your character in a new direction and need to learn new skills to do so?
