Evil triumphs when good men do nothing.

One reason why many people still won't believe in Evolution is because they think that it proves that there is no God. But does it really?

No,  the theory of evolution does not prove that there is no God. I myself am a Christian and still believe in evolution. Many fundamental Christians have said that there is either creationism or evolution. I do not think that there are two distinct sides to it. Although some Christians believe this many do not, in fact even Pope John Paul II stated that evolution does not contradict the divine Revelation and accepted that evolution is a well established theory. Some flaws in the creationism are that it is based on a book written over 2000 years ago before modern science. They still believed that the universe revolved around Earth. They had no conception of evolution and needed stories. The problem with the stories is that today they are taken literally by many people when in fact they should not.  They were written with very primitive knowledge of the Earth and how it was created or functioned.

Once again I say that it is not clear cut. You can still be a Christian and believe in evolution. I for one believe that maybe God created humans and other animals through evolution. This is much more logical than creationism. God did not have to create every animal at once he could, he could have done it through a slow process called evolution.  Some may say this is the “cheap way out” but I think not. I do not see how this would not work. It can neither be proofed wrong nor right .

Politicians are the lowest form of life LiberalDemocrats are the lowest form of politician G.Patton

I am Christian and i beleived God created life with an innate ability to evolve, and that is why humans are not clones but specialized after thousands of years to live in certain enviroments, thus the diversity of races.   Caused by enviroment, diet and breeding.
And the same for the animal kingdom, adapt, evolve and survive  enviromental change.  Fill  a specialized niche. Darwin got it half right, natural selection?   Yes God created it that way.

Evolution is a description of a process.

It doesn't address the why or when or who of the process.

Catholics don't have a problem with evolution conflicting with their faith.

However, deliberately blockheaded Jeebusite literalists do, because they can't accept the sacred texts of Christianity as metaphor.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

I think the only Christians who really have a problem with the process of evolution are the evangelicals in this country.

What i don't understand is how people can have faith in an all powerful, omnicient god and not allow him to have built evolution into his creation. Do they really think they know the mind of god? that they know his plan from begining to end? have they no love for his creation? is this not hubris, the sin of pride?

What i suspect people find hard to swallow is that humans are just another animal. That evolution says that their beautiful 6 year old daughter is actually filthy animal, a monkey playing dress ups. They find this concept revolting.

The Bible is a spiritual guide not a science text book. It’s not intended to describe the physical universe it describes the spiritual universe using metaphor and allegory. Science describes the physical universe, but can never provide absolute certainty, final answers or look beyond some horizons.

As I see it the two don’t overlap at all and therefor can never contradict each other.  Evolution describes a physical process and therefore falls firmly in the realm of science to prove or disprove.

The Mind of The Buddha

I think the most incredible part of the Bible is Genesis.
Re-read Genesis and think about evolution while you are doing it.
It basically describes the process of Evolution in a realy neat and condensed way.
Going from things the creepeth through to man.

I just cannot understand how, or why, Christians dont embrase this feature more.

Agreed\

I too consider myself Christian [Church of England] and i find it funny that some people thing Evolution is an attempt to disprove God. Afterall if God really is all powerfull wouldnt it be in his abilaties to create Evolution?

And in the end Evolution is so perfect a theory that it would make sence that it was God who started it off.

This is true, I know many Christians and the only ones who do not believe in Evolution are affiliated in some way with an evangelical church (often southern baptist).

It should be noted though that it isn't just fundamentalist Christians that oppose evolution.  For example, a number of fundamentalist Muslim nations have banned the teaching of evolution as well.
