We all know how it feels when you get called 5-10 times, sometimes even more a day with telemarketers. You are expecting an important phone call, be it from a boss, co-worker or a girlfriend/wife...you pick it up in a hurry and its an advertisement in your ear.

Do you have any fun, entertaining or interesting ways you deal with them?

I did this once sometime last year, in my best girly manly voice

"Hey, you called the right place ,honey. This is the house of butch babes and hairy men, what do you want ?"

I didn't even get a reply after that, he/she just hung up.

This is what I do when I wanna screw around with them:

I tell them I am interested in what they are selling but please hold on:

I then put the phone on hold and just leave.  By their corporate policies a telemarketer is NOT allowed to hang up and they even get scored on how long a call lasts.  So I get em on both accounts.

If I do not feel like messin with them I get their number and tell them to never call back; they are bound by US law to never call back

I told a guy I was masturbating once.

It just got kind of quiet akward though, then I hung up =/

Tell them you work for a sales company and say that you won't listen to their pitch until they have listen to yours.  Then after you are done pitching some fake ass product tell them you want to speak with their coworkers and pitch to them as well and then their manager and just keep going.  Eventually they will either get pissed off and hang up or you will keep them on the line so long it will screw their stats up. 

Plus it is fun. 

Or another good one is tell them you are from the Jehovah Witnesses and you want to speak to them about the Lord, then grab a Bible and start reading it to them.  Make sure you start at the Beginning and tell them you won't listen to them until you have read them the entire story.

My friend lets his daughter answer the phone. This has a downside. When I call I can't get her off the phone so I hang up.

I would love to be able to immitate the Jerkey Boys. That would make for some good conversations.

Getting on the do not call list helps a lot. I did it and don't get telemarketers anymore.

In Texas, it's real easy.  We have a law commonly called the "I'm not interested" law.  As soon as you say those three and a half words the telemarketer/door to door salesman is required to stop and go on their way.  They are required to hang up/go away.

I love it.
