Well you didnt say much about your video card.  Tho if I was you I would start by going back to XP.  Vista is nothing but a BIG headache for games.  Sure DirectX 10 is nice but its not worth the troubles of Vista.  Good luck

I thought I read you should have 5 meg memory for vista/Vanguard.

Have you updated your drivers for your video card?

My drivers won't update to the newest release. I get a error message saying that I don't have vista 32, and I do, so i have to go back to old drivers.

And I only have 4 gigs of ram. May get some more. idk.

I am really debating on going back to XP pro but i don't want to give up hope yet.

my video card is Zotac 9800 gtx 512

One thing i noticed is that the resolution you play the game in should match you desktop resolution.

You probally know this but, vista 32bit only uses about 3 gigs of ram, still more than enough for high settings.

I have half the system you do and i play on low settings at  1680x1050 with about 40fps (hit ctrl p to show fps).Sounds strange but maybe your monitor cant handle it.Your running the game with at 4:3, is your monitor old, i ask this because i noticed a lot of new monitors are 16:9.

One more thing, is this a fresh install of vista?

edit: Dont get more ram, you have more than enough. Alt tab out of Vanguard and do a ctrl/alt/del and check how much ram your system is using

I'd say its not ur rig or the game, but somthing you are running in the background, also do u have SP1 Vista?

For the comment on Vista needing 5 meg memory? I hope u mean gig, and even if u do its still a load of rubbish lol, Vista takes 512mb on a system not running many if any background apps. Vanguard needs as much RAM as you can possibly throw at the game, but you say you have 4gb which is double the amount i have, but i run on max settings, with a 8800GTS 512 and a Quad core Intel, yes i get some hitching in places where it is loading the details like in the main hubs, but then it goes up to about 30 fps, but everywhere else it is usually running at about 60fps, thats why I say its a background app like norton(AHHHHH). So look at wat else you are running while playing the game, apart from that your rig shouldn't have no problem running at max.

Oh yer I nearly forgot, make sure u have on some of the performance things in the settings and turn off volumetric clouds as this takes about 5fps just for that alone.

I am a total noob at Vista. I have used XP for years now and Vista is sooo differnt to me.

How do I tell SP1 Vista? Sorry if I sound like a total noob but I am stil trying to figure out basic things in Vista that have changed from XP. I know for some its simple but I am not the brightest crayon in the box.

Same here, i got:-

Quad Core Q6600 O/C to 3ghz

4GB Ram DDR3 800Mhz

ATI 3870 x2 Crossfire O/C'd

2x 80Gb Raptor 10k HDD in Raid 0

Windows XP

XFI Gamer soundcard

The most i can manage is balanced at 1600x1050 which is my monitors native res, even lowering it to 1400x900 doesnt help, it still chops, stutters and randomly freezes for a few secs. FPS seems high normally, but the hitching is driving me beserk, and now and again im walking around and suddenly everything stops for 5 secs and my char seems to jump or fall from the sky.

Came back hoping for better really, as this system is 10 times faster than my old PC, but it seems to be barely an improvement. Any idea how to fix the hitching and save my Pc rage?
