How would players react?

Would the majority organize their time better? Would it lead to grouping situations where players have to go- they're overusing their 'package' or whatever? Just wondering. I know from a business perspective mmorpgs prefer the subscription as casual players who play bugger all and get little value for money are quite prepared to pay that subscription fee meaning a lot more extra revenue than otherwise but as I say, just wondering.

The korean alternate pay model is pay per hour. but that is because most koreans game in cyber cafes where item mall and pay per hour previal.

I garuntee you i wouldnt play any game that had an hourly pay rate.

Actually most MMORPG's seem to run about 15$ a month at the most... so if a casual even plays a couple of hours or so a week it is still a pretty good value. Compare that to going out to see a movie... and at 15$ it still beats watching TV.

Back in the day there were pay by the hour subscriptions for games line NWN and Shadows of Yserbius.  $15.00 is very cheap compared to what it cost back then.

But seriously, in China you only pay by the time you play. There's no other form.

Behold! Rash of the Itch King comes in November! Quake in fear!

If it was something like 25 cents an hour...nah, I wouldn't do it haha. $15 is a good value overall, for a whole month...plus some games offer those other payment plans on top of that.
