It warms my cold heart to know there are still people that remember X-com: UFO defense

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.

My first experience with it was back in 1996 or was that 97 on PS1. I would play it for hours. Played all the series. How awesome would that be if we had a X-COM MMO, aliens vs humans. I would play an alien simply because I like all the cool technology.

I've got the PC version. 1994. 3.5" discs.  Good old Microprose.
Also have the sequel, Terror from the deep. Not as good though.

I had high hopes for the newer Xcoms to bring back the coolness of the original. But they never did. :(

For the Horde!

I must be wierd, because I preferred Terror From the Deep (X-Com 2), and it remains my most played single-player game ever.  However, I can understand why most people didn't like TFTD - some nasty research bugs and long ship missions, and of course the fact that it looks like a re-skinned X-Com 1 (a bit harsh).

I can complete TFTD game fairly reliably on superhuman now, without reloading when things go bad - however I still rely heavily on Mind(Molecular) Control, so don't consider myself uber pro, but still pretty good.  But anyway, I absolutely adore TFTD.  It's one of the few games that makes me really, really nervous when playing.

Don't get me wrong, TFTD was fun, it was by no means a bad game. I think it just didn't wow me the way the first did because UD was completely new and fresh and TFTD was an improved version of the successful formula.

Either way, great turn based tactics, squad advancement, equipment management, research...

There were some unrelated games that kind of captured the same feeling. I think maybe Jagged Alliance was one. Fallout 1 and 2 actually shared a lot of traits that X-com had only with more focus on story. Some others I can't remember...
