"egh my pots!"

Give it up. Sure you got an idea, the know-how and alot more. Seriously though everyone will say your game is crap and annoys them. All new ideas are shot down by people. The boring addicting games like WoW(i've played the trial for a reason) are the money makers. A big name takes a big franchise and says "Heres a world you all love enjoy it with other people and engage in hours of exploration and complex short and boring quests". The real issue with mmorpgs are the questionable quality. I mean just make a single player game first. What people want is a game with a high replay value. Think about it, theres no gripping plot or any main characters. What replaces that? Fun, enjoyment, other stimulating emotions. No mmorpg will break the wall of potential. Oh if you really want a good game idea just make a game were everyone can bash at eachother and kill everyone pointlessly thats the trend in the "Pub".

*Notes* I used short because a quest is ones eternal mission of good or evil or just in between. A mission should refer to a quest. A true quest would be "Purge the world of [insertultraevilmonster] so the lands of so and so will be free from his rule". The nature of mmos won't allow such a quest. To end the games never ending plot wouldn't work.

To not conform is to conform; Always question orders and demand a reason, least you become a Nazi.

I'd love to know your dream, perhaps there is someway I can make a post to ruin it for you.

Don't give up on making games, mmos, or any dream you have.

Wait what do you mean midnite? It's not like any lazy complainer will make an mmo anyways. This post was supposed to make people prove me wrong. Give them some hopes.

lol seriously.

Did you go to a gaming convention, with the stars in your eyes, and a spring in your step? did you walk right up to a major dev's corner with a suitcase full of dreams? Did you spill your heart out to them, telling them about an amazing idea you had for an MMO? After that, did those devs take a LolBat to your knees, then urinated burning oil into your eyesockets, handed you a razor and some mascara, and said get out?

Hell. My dream is to get into game design. I got ideas for games I havent seen done. Now, I'm just going to ignore the original poster and say this. Just what Midnitte said, believe in your dreams, work for them, embrace them. Dreamers are what this world needs right now. They are the ones with the creativity, the ones who have the skill to break the monotony that WoW has caused games to adopt (dont get me wrong, WoW is a good game, but it isnt special enough to be copied).

(dont let yourselfs be that poor guy who got hot oil in his eyes! Wow those devs! :O )

Well I don't think you thought the post through that much, and you fail at quoting (:P). I think people just need to focus on one job while dapping into other fields of work. Creating an MMO by yourself isn't possible, but having an idea for one and working on it to make it great is.

The gaming industry is very fickle and its a shame that we, the gamers, are our own worst enemy.

We want new groundbreaking games, but do we buy them?  No.  Well maybe, but if we do, do we continue to support them?  Of course not.

But, on the bright side, I have been WoW free for 6 months now

forget i said anything about evil possessed runeblades or kings of liches, silly person I do not know who this so called Lich king is... >.>

but yeah, Gamers are sometimes the industries worse enemy sadly... :(

Yeah my bad on the quoting. Now to the guy who said something about hot oil and my eyesockets(lol i forgot ure name) kinda thats how i felt when i saw all those mmos claiming to be "unique". They only had different features. People aren't capable of making a mass amount of people (suitible for an mmorpg  community) happy all the time. I came to realize this. They say get more GMs well hacking preventions are too strict and GMs are to lazy for what people are expecting. I see my flaws but i don't think a Einstein of mmos will create the atomic bomb of a game we all want to play.

Again this is why Funcom fails, and why SWG fails. Companies tend to completely ignore the community, or completely follow it. Blizzard is so successful with WoW because they listen to their players, not follow or ignore them.

If you get into game development I'd suggest following that guideline.
