"...the greatest Massively Multiplayer Online Game that never was." - Futurelooks

Was lucky enough to play in the Multiplayer Battletech 3025 beta before EA started its major studio cuts back around 2002.

This game still sits at the top of my MMO gaming experience from EQ1 - AoC. (yes I have a mecha bias)

It may not have had massive battles (4 on 4) but the overhead map meta game was interesting. Heck, a faction could even win the game.

Still has the best battletech gameplay mechanics to date. Not too fast, not too slow.

My favorite battle was a friend of mine and I, in 20 tons mechs, went against a single 65 ton. We used the hills for cover and got on either side of him. We would then pop up over the hill for a few blasts and then fall back to cover. It was a close fight. We lost in the end but it was a blast.

Are there any testers still hanging around that got to play this title?

I would love to see something built with today's technologies.
Exteel was a complete disappointment.

Here are some links about the game:

I played back in the day.  I actually liked it more than any of the Mechwarriors.

MPBT 3025 was the greatest online game I've ever played. They got everything Battletech right. Movement, jumping, weapons, just great.

We even got out some miniatures and compared them with the ingame models, and they detailed them exately the same.

I will curse EA until the day I die for killing it off.

Screw EA!

Yup, still in shock this one was killed  even after all these years. None of the Mechwarrior games came close.

Bitefight links are not referalls, they are the way to gain xp in the game.

Wow fellas, thank you , I didnt realize this was another mmo ea-games shut down, that makes 4 mmo's shutdown total (that i am aware of) and 1 that developed into vaporware, I cant stand ea-games.

when you have a bitefight link to your vampire to bite people the mods will warn you it is a referall link, it is not a referall, it is the way you get xp in the game by bighting people

I also was in that beta and really enjoyed the game. The location damage was pretty cool in that game, and you could blow off pieces of the enemy. They would lose the weapons on the parts that you destroyed. You also had to watch your weapon fire so that you didn't over heat. You could fire your weapons in groups or all at once. If you overheated, your mech would shut down for a few seconds while the enemy pounded on you.

What really sucks is that there was a indie game in development a few years ago that was basically aiming to recreate MPBT: 3025 but nothing ever came of it.

Website is still up and the forum still seems to be active though: Inner Sphere 3028

I never regarded it as an MMO tbh.

It was just another multiplayer game with unlockable content. Much like what CoD4 is now.

There was a lot more to it than that.  You do remember the giant map in which your faction would vie for control and how every single battle which took place in that territory directly affected the map, right?

If anything it was like Chrome Hounds.

And chromehounds isn't considered an MMO either ;D

I liked it, I'm a battletech fan. You should see my computer desk.
I just can't make the "MMO" connection.
