"It''s OK... I''m a leaf on the wind! Watch how I soar!"

Among changes to the free trial to remove geographic and level restrictions, all accounts with the exception of those who were banned can now play.

Dear Atysians,

We promised in our last message that we would remove the level cap and the geographical restriction to Free Trial accounts, and today we have done exactly that! That's right, if you were using an Unlimited Free Trial account and were stuck on Silan at level 21, now you can go where you want and level to your heart's content with absolutely no limitations!

Don't worry, they said they will continue to add more open accounts as they go.  Just keep your eyes peeled at Ryzom.com and keep trying.

"In EVE, no one gives a damn about a fair fight." - chafin

I got lucky yesterday and managed to snag one of the new accounts.  Spent a good amt of time downloading the client last evening so didn't get a chance to log in yet.

But I'll be visiting the game this evening.  Anyone have any suggestions for a decent new player guide? (or just go with the materials on the site?)

The manuals available on the website are quite good, and the forum has a vast amount of info. The tutorials on the starter island will teach you all the basics, and the best resource of all is the player community. Have a question? Just ask.

Also some good info for new players contained in recent posts here. (in the Saga of Ryzom section of the forum)

Weird way to do busniness.   We re-open a game but dont want new players....

Anyway i dont see the point of this game.  It was shut down, sold, re-opened but ti's still the same game.   Why would it be more succesful now under new management ?

I'm pretty sure they want new players. However, they are slowly opening up the servers, possibly for stress testing, who knows if it is new equpment, etc. Quite frankly I think they are smart. Heck, they might still be setting up billing systems.

As far as the point of the game, it is a "sandbox" game so the point is what you make of it.

It is possible that they feel that they have a better system in place to make the game viable. I mean, we don't know were the money was going before. Could have been high overhead, high rent, etc.

I actually think the closure and re-opening of Ryzom might be a good thing. They have built up quite a bit of interest and a lot of new people are in saying they wish they had tried it earlier. Also, there is a lot more point to it than many games, because it isn't like any other MMO.

The primary factors in the previous two failures had little or nothing to do with the game itself. They were:

- Bad management. Very poor communication. Lots of grand promises, little delivery. Development effort was at times given to aimless new projects that would tick off large portions of the playerbase instead of bug-fixing and completing half-finished projects that all of the players yearned for.

- Poor marketing. There was some advertising, but it was not well directed. They didn't use free exposure methods such as submitting news to MMO websites frequently and doing interviews.

- Gameforge did nothing with the game for one year. Even with their budget from owning the most popular browser-based game in the world, they saw fit to pay only 10% of Ryzom's purchase. Then they did nothing with Ryzom except keep the servers running and allow the absorbed Nevrax employees to
