I got so much
trouble on my mind
Refuse to lose.

If you played Tabula Rasa , you will notice mail in your inbox saying your subscription is renewed until 31 of this month.

So I said , what a heck ? Let give it a spin again ....

After playing the game for few hours again - an old question arised ... WHAT WENT WRONG ?

Tabula rasa , looks and more importantly plays excelent. Its twitch action shooter style is reminiscent of Gears of War - in MMO RPG.

NPCs and MOB look and act more alive and active than in any other MMO.

The gameplay is perfect for PVP (yet it was never fleshed out)

And COMBAT is FUN , and grinding is well disguised ....

In my eyes TR could easily be one of the best MMOs ... but something went wrong.

I think that somwhere along the line , budget was cut and agressive time limit was set.

The game is simply not finished.

It is most glaringly obvious in fact that there is simply not much to do and not many areas...

Crafting , PVP that could have been stellar ... all is strangely missing.

There is simply nothing to do except to fight MOBs...

And with lack of subs/players , NCsoft is not even trying to repair the game and add content.

Shame really , cause the game was so close to be perfect ...

You can go a long way with a smile. You can go a lot farther with a smile and a gun.

I think lack of advertising. In MMORPG there was many post about lack of innovation. I even have not thinking to try it.

Played: UO, Redmoon, RuneScape, Astonia 3, MU, L2, AO, DAoC, EQ2, WoW, GW, LotRO,Ryzom, VG, EVE, Wurm.

You kill the Joe, you make some moe

Tabula rasa was neat, i quit because at the time my computer couldn't run it on high graphics and I think I was trying out another game.

I told myself id probably sub back once I got my new comp, never really got around to it though.

It's a great game no doubt, im not sure what happened really. I heard theirs not alot to do once you reach endgame.

i loved it in CB until i hit the palisades. You went from killing countless bane and defending outposts and having tons of fun, to killing butterflies and woodland creatures. I actually just installed the game because im planning on playing it here soon again just to see the improvements. My favorite parts in the game were the bane coming in dropships where ever you went and it felt and sounded like you were in a war. And defending and attacking outposts was the shit even in CB when it wasnt fully functional.

EDIT: now that i think about it, i think the end game killed the game ..... Once you hit the end game there wasnt much to do, except kill stuff and get no exp. Thats why i think they are adding more and more pvp to the game to keep the endgame players busy.

Freedom is the will to be responsible to ourselves.

TABULA RASA - what went wrong ?

The name tied to the game, meaning it created VERY HIGH expectations from those familiar with RG. Hoping  the game would become and new type of UO. Hype helped with this both by the players side aswell the developers.

The game was entertaining for a "game" but missed many elements the more "mmorpg" type players wants. Even though when I played I had lots of fun all basic elements I would like to see in a MMORPG where missing, it was more a sci-fi version of Counterstrike with more upgrade possibility's. I even feel that if the game was more targeted towards singleplayer online games it might have been a slightly better success then how it turned out to be which was much less then a success.

I hope developers take note how combat works in TR cause to me that is still done very well, I'd say I would love to see a sci-fi MMORPG that is a mix of ...."oh oh".....CURRENT SWG  with the animation, combat and AI from TabulaRasa.

The devs simply missed the boat here. They made one of the best pvp platforms around and .... no pvp. TR, while fun  for a few weeks,  lacks anything to keep players coming back.

Sometimes I wish I was a balloon!

For me they delivered a totally different game from what they first announced and showed. (nothing bad about it just that the game wasn't for me anymore).

Just felt like any shooter out there and paying a subscription for that, nope sorry :) Plus I got fairly bored in beta allready.

So all in all not a bad game, just rather bland for my taste.

"Searchers after horror haunt strange, far places..." ~ H.P. Lovecraft, "From Beyond"

I was in the beta from about June 2007. It basically got rushed out the door. Well more to the point, the second iteration got rushed because they had been working on it for so long. What is there, is awesome. The problem stems from what *isn't* there. All of which have been mentioned in this thread.

  • The lackluster and pointless crafting system was a big disappointment to me personally. It has promise, but it went out unfinished and not really working right for what *was* there (although it's fixed now).
  • The other big problem is two-fold, no endgame content, and the fact that you can level to it so fast. PvP was supposed to be a big part of the endgame, but it isn't fleshed out enough yet. As much as people disliked the thought of raid type PvE  encounters, I think that TR really needs some, at least for the endgame.

There are also some things that should have been in the game that are still in the development process, like PAUs and Clan Barracks for instance, and a load of the little things that are still under development. I think once all that stuff gets included and polished, it'll be a great game. Unfortunately by that time it might be too late. The game's still being developed, but the team is a shadow of it's former self since the layoffs. Hopefully though NCSoft will see fit to give it some marketing capital when that time comes.

It's a really great MMOG and has a ton of potential and really deserves a chance...
