Jesus Christ is Lord. |
I say this because I notice Mythic and Adventurine have quite a bit in common. First off, they don't lie to their playerbase. From their mouth, what's said is said, and what's done is done; if there are changes in-between, it will be known by us. Second, they don't aim high then shoot low; they set their goals in a high place and attempt to cram a lot into a game, yet they still try to shoot even higher than that. Third, they aren't afraid to take something out if it doesn't meet their highest standards; by this, I mean very very high standards. So in all honesty, given there has been a beta since late last year, I strongly believe we would be informed by Adventurine if things weren't looking good. They won't lie to us... If the game was going to take a nose-dive, we would have heard about it already. The latest from them is that everything is actually going as scheduled this time. That's not to say they won't do another push back; because if they do, it probably will not be a very large one at all. Look at the trend here... Good business ethics is a must these days, win - lose - or draw. Unfortunately, there are still a crap-ton of companies who still don't get the point, leading players to think all companies are the same. Sounds kind of like a bad relationship doesn't it? Does not one become bitter after being boned by the opposite? That's just my opinion--- Take it with a grain of salt if you wish. |

It's Aventurine, and the only feature they've cut was prestige classes. The game is allegedly feature complete. They did, however, apparently push back a lot. I find the quip about business ethics unfair. No matter the company, if it were up to developers they'd all like all the time in the world to finish their work, but it's usually beyond their control, or even that of their superiors. That said, if there really is a point when you are wondering what the thread title implies then that means DF is only as fun as watching people be wrong about stuff, so the nay-sayers would actually be right. |

Darkfall 2008 --> If you want a sandbox game that challenges you, check it out |
Darkfall obviously The trolls will never "eat their own words" im afraid. See how they have moved from calling the game vaporware to attacking its chances of being good on release. Eventually it will turn to its graphics and how it wont update at all because of the long development. Then eventually they will attack subscription numbers trying to compare it to non-niche games like WoW and WAR and say even AoC had more numbers. But we will be too busy enjoying the game to even worry about all that right =) |

I believe patience/faithfulness is rewarded, but the OP and I both know that's only absolutely true in one distinct case. Nothing to do with gaming, a little more important than that. However, while I agree that honesty is important and both Mythic and, I guess, Aventurine have high standards, I'm not sure the latter can truly deliver. Do I think it's vaporware? No, that's silly, they're working on something, but who knows how good it'll be? Don't blame the trolls for taking reality seriously and presenting the very true possibility that it may not meet the expectations, especially since it seems to be promising a lot. Mythic has better experience, more money, better PR, etc., and on top of that they're still honest. That's why they can make such a good game in only 3 years. I wish Darkfall the best (I'm skeptical right now but I enjoy watching the interesting flame wars between fanboys/trolls). It's not on my radar right now anyways, just waiting for WAR. |

My number 1 concern about DF is the stability of the servers on release. |

And that is fine. I have no problem with that. The point most of us are talking about the trolls who have called it Vaporware and a hoax while insulting the followers of Darkfall. We now have proof that Darkfall is not vaporware and now those same trolls are changing there arguement without admitting they were wrong. I know its too much to ask for these trolls to act like men and admit when they are wrong but that is what I am asking. Plain and simple. |

I still consider it as counting your eggs before they hatch. I say the same thing to WAR users that think their game is going to release with 1.5M subs on the first month, with no exploits or bugs... full content every level, etc. Realistically though I wish Darkfall success as I'd probably play it too if all the features stated are good, without being outdated due to the lengthy period it has taken to release (not to mention since the release is going to be 2008, the limited beta). Lag from old code, graphic engine supprt, etc could very well be outdated. I for one am not getting my hopes up for Darkfall or Mythic's game WAR. Anyways, GL. |

My number 1 concern when Darkfall releases will be where to find a good residence for older people with a decent internet connection. |

Aventurine never gives any "bad" news. They just dont. So if they were running into issues, we would not know about it. That should be obvious from the long history of the game. We always get "almost ready for that next big step", but when it doesnt happen, we never get a correction or explaination. They just move on to the next piece of "good" news. In the end, I hope my skeptical opinion is wrong. I will even allow you to point and laugh at the guy that dared question DF. Doesnt mean I will admit I was wrong about being skeptical - this game warranted such an approach, whether it winds up being great or not. But I do want to play the dream game, just the same as you. |
