I would imagine because it's more free, so you have to be "nicer" to people or face the consequences, especially with FFA PvP. Friendships become stronger because you actually have to trust those people. However, I also agree with Cochran. The Darkfall community is representing itself as a stuck-up elitist type who are grumpy because DF is taking so long and they think WoW is for kiddies. They're somehow "better" because they're willing to take risks. They're somehow "better" because they can waste their lives in a "world", while the rest of us just want to have fun.

But I digress.

good post on the freedom aspect.

buy you just had to add a little jab at DF didnt you.  fact is, the "DF community" has not been created yet.  There is a HUGE FAN BASE for DF that just doesnt have the time or bother with posting in these debates on forums.  all you have now is a forum community, which is not effected by game mechanics at all.

no one thinks we are better...those that say something to that extent are the minority.  you dont see me holding you accountable when another naysayer tells me to go die somewhere because im an idiot following a religious cult...do i?

edit: to elaborate more on the HUGE FAN BASE comment i made.  I base this statement on other guild leaders i keep in touch with.  I could say that i can personally account for about 1000 players amoung multiple guilds whose guilds are keeping a watchful eye on DF in their personal guild forums.  My guild is gearing up for WAR right now, but all are pretty much keeping an eye on DF and there is a good chance if it releases, most of us will be heading that way and it will bring some of our members who arent playing anything out of retirement.

That's fine, I just called it as I saw it as of now

If people annoy you and they are on your screen, just kill them. If they are pulling barrens chat style chuck norris jokes on global or even local chat, well then you're in trouble. It's either mute and stick your head in the sand or leave the zone. Or you'll have to kill quite a few people.

i am 99% positive a dev has been quoted saying global chat is not going to be in DF.

I'm betting UO style buble chat.  Anyone else remember fustrating it was, when you were talking.  Someone came up and the chat would start over-lapping.  Talking in heavily populated area's was kind of funny at first.  Didn't they eventually fix that though?  Oh man, good times.

Edit below.

Removed, too long winded.  Community talks spark my need to rant.

Sexiness is my best attribute, I put all my points in it.

Well I think the main thing, without bringing in other factors like ffa pvp, is just the goals.

Compare the goals of a WoW player

1. Level up

2. Complete quests

3. Get better gear

Everyone has the same goals because the game is so narrow it doesn't allow for other goals.  Everything in the game will revolve around the above goals.  Every kind of player will group together because they all are forced to the same goals.

Then in a sandbox you decide what you goals are.  So people you group with will probably have similar interests as you.  Someone who wants to run a vendor shop probably won't run around  with someone who wants to go around pirating.  Though I guess they may buy from them.  Basically, you are grouped with people in a sandbox because you have similar interests, where in a themepark game you are grouped because there are so few ways to play the game, there is only one group and that is the group with character advancement as the goal.

Then you add in pvp and looting and that is a good reason to not make an ass of yourself.

That's part of why I think sandbox MMO's are so much better.

Your mind is like a parachute, it's only useful when it's open.
Don't forget, you can use the block function on trolls.

See now that's is a much better argument rather than insulting fellow gamers.
