I enjoyed DAOC for a few years and now I have some extra time again was thinking of playing again for a while. Then I found out that Mythic sold out to EA... thats to bad I was looking forward to Warhammer online as well. I will never buy another EA mmorpg. They cancelled Earth and Beyond just when they were starting to get the game right. I will never invest any of my liesure time in anything EA again.

What does everyone else think?

I recently read a article I believe it was from an editor at Mythic or some such title and she said nothing is changing at Mythic except the business cards.  I am playing DAOC again after being away and playing Earth and Beyond, EVE, WOW, DDO, EQ1/EQ2 etc and so on.  I love DAOC more now that I did when I started playing 5 years ago.

I have good and bad opinions about EA.  First the bad...Their customer service is none exsistant.  They rely on the fan base for their customer support.  I have tried hundreds of times to search for problems related to installing BF1942 and such and I have to say what I found was crappy forums loaded with people talking about the game and no number or customer support forum that was easily accessable to determine what my problem was.  I shelved BF1942 and haven't played it much since.

Second bad thing about EA... BF2....cheating was rampant in the game.  They had a system where you could unlock weapons and people were cheating and racking up ranking many, many different ways.  Too many to list.  It took them months to patch for it.  By then every cheater had their unlocks and people like me who really enjoyed the game.  Still was just a SGT with 1 or 2 unlocks whatever it was.   Anyway...the third thing is the access system for BF2.  It took forever to get in to a game and you never knew what your were gonna get.  What type a server or anything.  Poor interfacing...extremely....poor.  I can go on but those were some of my huge pet peeves about EA.

Now for the good...they are a big company and have had successful games.  Hmmm what does this mean?  Sounds like a whole other topic.  A lot of people don't like EA.  I have to agree I like Mythic a WHOLE LOT BETTER.

I mean night and day better.  Perhaps the AWESOME customer service of Mythic will rub off on EA.  I would think EA might name themselves Mythic EA... not EA Mythic.  Mythic is the only company I know of and I have played all the mmos on the market of note, that has continued to improve their game by leaps and bounds with each successive release of an expansion.  Some people love the changes and Mythic has even kept servers for the people that didn't want any changes.  I would recommend checking out BF2142 from EA coming out soon.  Looks awesome.  I will buy that just like I have all the BF stuff out so far.  I hope EA will learn from their new merge with Mythic for the betterment of us all.

About Earth and Beyond I played the beta and the first months of the game and I was very disheartened at the lack of progression.  Kinda boring for my tastes.  I never saw them getting it right.  I saw some changes and threw out the cd in the trash the day I left it.  DAOC on the other hand I have been back and forth to it 4 times and am back again after the new Darkness Rising and Catacombs expanions and loving it.

I would hope you will try the newer games coming out like BF2142....looks to be a smash hit.

I would hope you will also try Warhammer Online.  It isn't EA  It is Mythic making the game.  They just have a new company that is part of them.  I for one am going to try them both and can't wait for the beta.

But...
less then 3 months ago "Mythic isn't selling out to any company as long as I'm at the helm" (None other than Mythic's CEO"

And a few months back I recall them stating that they can't push out expansions for DAOC as fast as they'd like because they're using up most of their resources getting WAR ready for launch.  And now, less than 2 weeks after the buyout is announced we hear:

Mythic's development team will be working with Ultima Online on their new project (whatever that is).

Yah, nothing is changing my rear end.  EA is already starting to give Mythic projects on top of the ones they're already working.

I hope WAR comes out ok and I hope it doesn't detract from DAOC in any way.  But with EA running things?  My confidence in WAR being any good is much lower.... because I know EA's track record.

Mark never said that.  What he said is that people have been trying to purchase Mythic for years and that he has turned them down.  He said that some company (EA) had approached them and he turned them down.  He never said he would never sell the company.  The fact that when EA came back to him for negotiations again and he decided not to make it public information should be of no surprise.  There is no reason to think things would have been different this time compared to all of the others.  There are also preduntial and legal issues involved since tEA is a publicly traded company.

If Mark would have said that he never would sell the company, then he would have never taken any meatings.  The fact is he did then and in the past with multiple companies.

As for DAOC not being able to put out as many expansions as they would like because of lack of resources, I would like to see where you got that from.  Mythic consists of 3 teams.  DAOC, expansion, and WAR.  Most of WAR's personal comes from those who were hired to work on Imperator as well as some new people they hired.  The expansion team for DAOC has been working for a few months on the next expansion.  In another week or two then you will see an announcement about it.

For how UO and DAOC have working I do not know.  It might cause a strain in resources, or it might not.  It all depends on the project and if EA is going to provide additional staff for Mythic.  In this issue I have concerns, but I will wait and see what happens over the next few weeks.

I can't say I am worried about WAR.  GW will not allow it to go out without meeting their standards.  I do not think EA will want to risk loosing the license.  So, at this point in development, EA has nothing to do but sit and wait and hope that it will be a success.

True but if they really want to make sure Mythic isn't distracted then they shouldn't be sticking UO on their plate in any form until WAR is out, stable and well supported.  Anything other than that is directly meddling in the potential that WAR has.

Instead we're already getting announcements that Mythic and UO are teaming up on some project or other (with more details coming 'soon').  I love Mythic... and I like the potential for a revitalization of the UO2 project or something similar... but at the same time I'm concerned with the fact that EA is tapping Mythic with additional duties while WAR is still under development.

Well,

If this is going to anything like EA taking over Ultima Online then i have very bad news for everybody. Ultima Online was a fantasy world which made every player feel unique. It was mysterious, there was no Help File and if you wanted to know something you had to ask another player, so there was a real, in-world knowledgebase.

EA came with it's Hollywood style approach and effectively changed it into just another kids game. It was as if they threw everything that made ultima great into the trash and commercialised it. I hope for our sake this game stays a game built for fun, and not for fortune.

You do realize that not everyone at Mythic is on the WAR team right? Just because Mythic is doing something else, doesn't mean it is taking anything at all away from the WAR Dev Team. Mythic has always had completely seperate teams for each project... The Camelot and WAR Teams are seperate, on seperate floors of the building even.
