It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a viking to raze a village! |
1. Change your business model to free to play with paid expansions in addition to the free content upgrades. This will bring in a lot of new and old players. 2. Release a boxed expansion that updates the graphics to some acceptable level for 2006-7.
If the devs would do these two things, the game could make a comeback. |

Upgrading the graphics yet again would be too much work for an old game engine such as that. I say enjoy the game for what it is. It doesn't need saving.

The enemy is so dumb! They believe that WE are the enemy! - A famous orc commander. |
Turbines should relax and take it easy. Eventually release AC3. However, I suggest they wait at least 5 years before starting to work on the design of it. DDO, LotR and AC2 hopefully teach them something. The market is "Turbines-satured" atm. Modesty, humility and hardwork are the way to go after you party all night long.

AC1 doesn't need saving in my opinion. It is simply running the course that all games do as they get older. There is no way with all the new games coming out, that AC1 can stay fresh and exciting. It has managed to hang around for 8 years and that says alot about the quality of a game that it is. I hope eventually, maybe 5 years down the road after LoTRO launches and they have updated the engine and refined it even more that we may get lucky enough for a new installment of the AC series. I don't think they should start on a new AC series until the old AC series is truly getting ready to shut down due to lack of players though. So if AC1 is still going strong in 5 years then I guess a new chapter will have to wait. |

I've been playing AC since I was 14. I am 22 now... I think it is time put the nails on the coffin.

I don't think AC should die before Ultima Online and Everquest.

Originally posted by demandredEBR /sarcasm on Well then, oh enlightened one, care to elaborate? After all, I'm clueless apparently. /sarcasm off I lot of people say that AC should just be left to die, and that Turbine should focus on AC3. However, I cannot tell you how many times I've thought to myself or even heard other players comment that if they could find a game as fun as AC1 with updated graphics, it would rock the MMO market. If that translates into an updated AC1, I'd love it. If it means AC3, so be it. All is good as long as the play remains true to the original. We all know that one of AC2's biggest failings was that they deviated from the receipe. They dumbed down the game mechanics too much. Any game that lasts 8 years has done something right, and they would be crazy not to build on that success. At any rate, the graphics are the big show stopper that are preventing me from returning to the game. I just cannot get past it, and I'm guessing that I'm not alone. I'm sick of great looking games with poor gameplay and great games with poor graphics. This is 2007, and I have to believe that somewhere out there, a game can have both cutting edge graphics and great gameplay.

AC was the first MMO I ever played. Looking back, it had offered so much that is not offered in any game I know of now. 1) Create your own character with skills of your choosing. 2) I stood in the sands of Ayan Bakur when the Virindi attacked. I was shopping in Qalabar when the Shadows charged down from the hills and attacked the population. You want to talk about awesome? That was awesome. 3) An original world. Would I come back to AC if there was a graphix update. Probably. I'd hope they would improve the game design to something better than AC2. |
