The thing in eve I don´t like is the point and click flight simulation , would be real cool to fly first person to like in Free Lancer is this possible? Would really add to the game play as Eve is 1 of the best looking sci rpg I have seen yet?

I read somwhere that they are working on a new downloadable add-on in witch it was posiple to leave your ship an wolk thruw stations and on plannetets. The 'but' was that it was on the longturm.

Countless of times have newcomers to EVE asked for a first person view as it seems quite nice to have when flying around in your frigate. But with the low turning rate of battleships and bigger a first person view would be completely useless. CCP has toyed with the possibility of one day maybe implement control and first person view of fighters (the ones carriers and such use instead of drones), but so far nothing concrete. |

ehh its not very practical flying first person in a ship that uses turrents wouldnt be very interesting what makes flightsims fun in combat is trying to lineup your shot while dodging theres. and if you think about it a frigate is a acually a decent sized ship (atleast from a modern and historical standpoint)

A frigate in EVE is larger than a 747 jet. How often do you see 747 jets or B-52 bomber's dogfighting.
Oh that's right.....YOU DON'T. EVE ships are on the scale of capital class vessels, the only things that would be small enough to manually pilot would be Fighters as was said. On top of that you also have the fact that this is a MMO and realtime first-person control becomes even more un-realistic. |

"Wow, these artillery guns are huge," some say (meaning the 1400mm howitzers), or this frig weighs alot. However if you do a little counting it indeed shows that the ships are absolutely not SMALL. Not even the pods or the shuttles. Anyway. I see your point and the idea to look out the window would be cool. However I've actually seen this a bit different. I mean, as a pod-pilot you're suspended in ambietic(sp?) fluid in your pod, inside the ship. I can probably quite surely say that you do not look through a window in the pod to look out the bridge. Nah, you're surely linked to the pod, which is linked to the ship, which in turn gives you the strategic view of the surrounding area. Also 1st person view would not be useful at all. The battles are to quick. Imagine trying to follow a interceptor orbiting you at 10.000m/s with your naked eye, or even trying to follow from window to window or pivoting your ship to continue to see it. Annoying probably... But with the implementation of walking around the station (when/if that comes) perhaps the ability to get a closer view from the ship might be availiable in the nearfuture after that(so in about 20 years |

WoW is the McDonalds of the MMO industry. More popular does not mean better. |
Also, it is worth noting that you as the "pilot" are not the only one on the ship. All the ships in the game (except maybe the shuttle) have a full crew that I'm assuming are the ones who work your weapons and sub-systems. That's why Willpower is an attribute and Spaceship COMMAND is a skill set. You are the Commander, not the solo space fighter. Think more along the lines of a Star Wars admiral in a Star Destroyer rather than Darth Vader in a tie fighter.

Originally posted by Graanok Hmm... perhaps I could be wrong here, but if I recall correctly, the introduction of the capsule meant that only one pilot was required to pilot even the largest of ships. Perception is required because you need to be able to observe everything at the same time. Willpower is required because you are required to operate the whole ship as an extension of yourself by pure will. Thus even a shuttle, battleship and even titan is piloted by you alone, sitting in the pod within a safe place in the ship. Read the chronicles and scientific articles and you'll see. The use of crewed ships was disused after it was found that pod-piloted ships could make maneuvers and actions far beyond the capabilities of a ship with a full crew. Why? Because how can you get a full crew to do exactly what they need to do at the same time without any error? If you're alone only a slight margine of misscalculation on your own part remains since the ship does exactly as you yourself wants its to do(as long as it can make it in order with the laws of physics). But yeah, I can be wrong. |

Piloting, yes. A pod-pilot not longer needs to mess around with a helms-man, weapon-man, sensor-man, etc. BUT.. laborers are still needed to operate a ship's inner workings. There are several examples in the backstory where pod-driven ships require crews to maintain them. |
