MMO makers please include collision. I hate running through people I''m trying to kill.

After getting my beta invite today and downloading today I also cancelled today.   I've beta tested quite a few MMO's and to be honest this is nothing worth being excited about.  This game is not in any way ready for an April release.  The character animations are stiff (robotic to be exact) the landscape may be pretty but there is something wrong with it.  Its fake, empty, a total absence of feeling.  Most of what I saw was pretty much the same way.  Combat is bland and even more simple than World of Warcraft to figure out.  I got my level 5 title for not dying once (suprise suprise) and that was pretty much as much as I could stomach.

I know the fanclub will flame me for what I write, but all of you who pre-ordered this game should be worried.   Turbine may have great plans, ideas or whatever but at this current time this game is not good.    I'm sure this game will still appeal to many players, I however am not one of them.

P.S.   My wife is also an avid MMO player, and her descriptions are a bit more pessimistic than mine.

[Insert Tool lyrics]

You played for less than a day and you're ready to pass this kind of judgment about the game's character and whether or not the game feels "empty" ?  Did you even get out of the noob zone?  How can you judge an MMORPG based on less than a day of playing??

There's something kinda sad about the way that things have come to be, desensitized to everything, what became of subtlety?

I would have to disagree with you on the fact that this game is not ready for release, it was a very smooth running game with very few bugs in my opinion. So to say it isnt ready for release I actually had to laugh because it is one of the better running beta games that I have seen in a long time.

Characters I will agree with you on this, they remind me a lot of how Guild Wars characters are which is one thing I didnt enjoy to much. However on a plus side I was actually impressed with the way the characters actually swim.. haha.

After finally getting in to the beta and playing I have also decided to cancel my pre-order. Not because I think it is a bad game, it actually has a nice mix of things seen in different games or addons used in different games all in one but I just found there is something missing. I cant put my finger on it, no its not the community, its something I just havent figured out yet. It will be a good game for a lot of people just not for me, maybe I read too much into posts and websites.. who knows but I am at least glad I tried it out.

As long as your enjoying the game and having fun, then that's all that matters.

Google is your friend.

No, I can tell he didn't get out of the newbie area. I'm not going to flame though. To each their own opinion. It says alot about credability though when you consider how far the OP has actually gotten in the game. The only thing I would suggest, and not flame, is that the OP take a little more responsibility with their words. By that I mean saying the game is no where near release. That statement alone begs the questions exactly how many betas have you been in? From the length the OP has tested this one to jumping to forums and giving their opinion I wouldn't guess too many and having going too far into them. Personally, I've beta'd most all AAA titles so far and by far this was/is the most smooth running, major bug-free one to date. Of course, that is my opinion and in fairness it should weigh just as much, no more, no less, than the OP's.

That said, anyone reading his opinion I'd say to appreciate it as just that and what has been stated pre any edits that may be done is only factual for the OP.  Take a look around these forums and others and you will see an overwhelming show of positive support for LOTRO. You don't see near as much naysaying as for some other recently released titles. Last, try the game in open beta and form your own opinion. In my very biased opinion you'll be glad you did. If not, well, you haven't really lost anything and you can now focus on one of the other titles that are upcoming. Oh, and my wifes loves the game. She's a die hard gamer and has first edition prints of most of Tolkien's works.

The Themepark Method of making MMOs is structured entertainment, akin to a puzzle. I prefer a legos style where I can build what I want and something new everyday.

Uh-oh, I pre-ordered the game after playing to lvl 14, but YOU played to lvl 5 and noticed something I didn't and know better if I should be worried or not. If you were smart, you'd at least say you played to, let's say, lvl 6, cause that's when you leave the starting area.

I have to disagree with the OP.

I have tested quite some games through an alpha and Beta period and this one

is one of the most smoothly running and bug-free games i've given a try.

My advice is next run go beyond the starter zone and try some other zones and some

more advanced stuff then reevaluate your opinion.

To me this is a very well done game that can deliver.

Sigils answer to everyting... "can you bumpmap that?"

At Lvl 5 ofc the combat will be simple, your in the newboe area, so dont expect a huge challenage you also only have 3 skills at lvl 5.

I got a spider slayer acheiment today for killing a bunch of spiders

lol why can't people play the game for a week or so before coming with lame comments about the game is not ready.
I have been beta testing games for 9 years and this game is the most polished beta i have ever tested.

As for his level 5 title experience all i have to say is wow.
He judges a game from something that takes less than 1 hour to accomplish.
Talk about jumping to conclusions without any experience.

*shrugs* fans will be fans.  I doesn't take 14 levels to figure out game mechanics, or movement, or combat animations or general animations.   It wasn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination but it wasn't great either.    Thanks to all the fanclub for instantly flaming the thread.  I especially love the WoW lover comment, since I havent played WoW in over a year.    Its great that you all defend your game so vehemently but take the blinders off for a day and you might see it differently.
