Pain is fear leaving the body..

I would not pre order anything until an actual package deal comes out from EA/Mythic. Otherwise you are letting a gaming sore hold on to your money for 6 months...

Too weird to live, and too rare to die

Agreed.

At this point is would be foolish to pre-order WAR, if it is even possible (I am sure it is, somewhere).

It is not as though you are not going to get a copy, and right now nothing is on offer. Wait until EA Mythic officially announces its pre-order package and partnerships, which probably will not be until late 2007 or early 2008, and then do it. That way you know what you are getting and can be sure to get it. Expect the pre-order package to include access to beta, and possibly an in-game perk or special payment package, if history shows us anything.

As a sidenote, I wonder how much people will be squeezed for the Collector's Edition (you know there will be one!) and what carrot on a stick they are going to dangle to get people to pay twice or thrice the normal amount. Current MMOG trends show that companies do this as a fantastic way to massively increase their retail revenue, and it works - I cannot blame them for doing it.

Throw in some in-game perk that matters for nothing but rarity/prestige, and people will pay an extra $40+ every time. I would know, I have done it often enough, and always am left wondering why.
