That would be awesome but I'm not thinking that will happen anytime soon.

Diablo III would be great even if all they did was get graphical updates.

Blessed are the forgetful, for they get the better even of their blunders

Yeah, Diablo 3 is coming.

It's going to be released on Halloween (10/31) and is called Hellgate:London

I think that's the closest anyone is going to get to a new Diablo game. Lets face it, the teams that made Diablo at Blizzard are now split between two new studios, Flagship Studios which has the Lead Designer of the Diablo games and many key members of the original Diablo team, and ArenaNet which has the rest of the team that didn't go to Flagship.

Will Blizzard eventually make another Diablo game? Almost certainly. Will the next Diablo game be as good, or better, as the first two games without 95% of the people that made them? Maybe. Only time will tell, but I wouldn't be expecting a new Diablo out of Blizzard anytime soon.

"Don''t you NEVER turn your back on a fuckin'' clown when he''s talkin'' to you"

Please not, diablo series destroyed the whole RPG genre already and dumbed it down into a mouse smashing zero solving piece of crap.

REALITY CHECK

I disagree.

The Diablo series helped in a whole new genre of RPG, the ARPG (Action Role Playing Game) or Hack & Slash RPG, that is apart from the more traditional Western and Asian RPGs. I personally enjoy these Diablo-type games quite a bit, they are more action focused while still offering fairly deep character development and, on occasion, some deep stories to hack your way through.

There are still lots of more traditional RPGs out there, like NWN2, Fable, Oblivion, FInal Fantasy, etc, with more coming all the time. So no, I don't think Diablo dumbed down or devloved  the RPG genre. If anything it evolved and expanded the genre into a few sub-genres.

All that being said though, you'd have to be blind to not have noticed a general decline in the number of RPGs that have been released, or are in development, over the last few years. And THAT I attribute to the general dumbing down or "consolization" of the video game industry as a whole. Very few companies are left that are willing to put out a really deep RPG in fear that it won't sell. Yeah, there are a few companies out there that will put out a good RPG, but they are quickly going the way of the Dodo or Sabre tooth tiger. A few years ago there were a solid number of developers that were known for their great RPGs, but now I can only think of a handful. Tis sad indeed.

Failcom = The P2P version of K2 Network

Hellgate: London.

If you want Diablo 3 you need to check this game out. It's currently in Beta and there is an NDA, so I can't say much. Checkout the Single Player Demo coming out sometime this week and you'll see why it's called "The Spiritual Successor" to Diablo 2.
