"What man is a man who does not make the world better?"

Forget the gold buyers/sellers, people ruin the games from their conceited demands and immature attitudes toward the developers and other players. Demanding they change the game to fit their personal playstyles.

Very true.

The loud and angry minority make the most forum buzz and the devs tend to cater to their unrealistic demands.

Meanwhile, the vast majority are happily enjoying the game and don't even check on forums, then one day log on and find their game completely different then it was the day before. These players tend to simply adjust, they don't get too crazy over it...

But every once in a while, they'll be so distressed that they'll hop onto the forums for the first time and then it's too late... soon enough, they are one of the ranting/raving minority.

It's a sad cycle really.

Usually, these guilds have some sort of emo name that includes a reference to 'shadow', 'darkness', or something; and has some sort of paradoxial word like 'reverie', 'saga'.

Either that or just something like 'chaos', 'mayhem', 'damnation'. Think chaos space marines from DoW and you have these guilds all figured out.

Sometimes you get a gay guild that has taken it in the rear so hard and so many times that they decide to use a word like 'order', 'republic', 'nation'.  This is to try to sound orderly, so people think they have jobs and wake up at 6am every day.

Where are all the cool guilds? Are there any mature darkfall guilds?"

This REALLY makes me want to join the Darkfall community... *cough*

Spot on! That's why my characters' names in EVERY MMO I play, from the Dark Elf forests of Gondor to the vertiginous gangways of Coruscant is ALWAYS:

MILDRED SNEDDON, CPA

It enrages the tubby, klingon-speaking RPers as much as the thirteen year old, groin-tugging L337 speakers. Win, win!

I've always been more a player than a forum whore. When i want to entertain myself by reading i pick up a book. When i want to play a game i play a game (as opposed to reading about the game on the forums). Forums DO have their uses and i HAVE used forums for just about every MMO i've played starting way back with UO. I have yet to become one of those baying forum hounds always complaining about some aspect of the game. In my opinion if it's not an actual bug it is WAI and complaint is useless. Blizzard has class GM's who use the class forums to get feedback on class balance issues etc but most of the loudest voices are just on the general forum and NOT directed to the people who can actually help. Bottom line here is that people like to complain regardless of the result. The only cure for stupidity is death.

As previously mentioned whiners on the forums and RMT arent the only ways to kill an MMO community so there just isn't a single solution.

As far as RMT goes, I personally don't care about it. The problem I have is when those RMTers spam in game. The only real and effective solution is to constantly monitor and moderate in game chat channels and come down with quick, decisive punishment for any account caught in the act. It's unlikely we will ever see this kind of enforcement since it would basically require a police force of GM's.

Screaming on the forums are less of a direct threat to the in-game community. Part of the reason I rarely bother to read the forums is that a majority of the posts are some kind of whine thread with about 5 pages of flaming. This will never be eliminated entirely but it can be reduced. In particular class balancing (being one of the biggest causes for complaint) should be a high priority and this is something that should be (and generally IS) solved primarily in alpha/beta testing.

Often outnumbered, Never outgunned.

Don't lump me in with the cheaters. I actually find pride and excitement from doing things the right way as opposed to simply buying off my "success"
