Anyone heard if Mythic will make some sort of lifetime offer just like Turbine did with Lord of the rings online.

I bought a lifetimeaccount in LOTRO and i'm glad i did.I would love to see more companies sell lifetimeaccounts.

It's so much more fun to know that you never have to pay any monthly fees after your initial buy and after that you play the game in a very different way because you don't think about you have to pay a monthly fee so you just chill out more and have fun plus there is less chance of getting your CC hacked because you only use it once.

Why So Serious?

They've not talked pricing on anything or any subscription plan possiblities yet.   The game's atleast 4 months from release with no solid release date in place yet.   Expect word to hit the streets when a solid release date is finally placed down.

Turbine is the only company atleast to my memory that's ever done a lifetime subsciption plan.  They honestly have the most unique set up for their MMOs ... I don't expect EA Mythic to follow such a model even if it would be pretty awsome.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

Agreed.

Not seeing any talk whatsoever from the devs about any lifetime subscription fee, although there has been some questions answered about monthly cost.

Basically, the devs said, not less than other MMORPGs charge (which is about $14.95) and possibly a bit higher.

That's about all we know for now, but I am thinking we should start to see monthly prices and packages information probably released sometime after March.

Just a guess.

I'm sure I remember seeing an official statement that they wouldn't be doing lifetime subs because not enough people buy them and it doesn't make sense financially. I'm pretty sure it was a WAR article anyway but it was a while ago.

I rember shadowbane had a 1 year offer that unlocked three races.

If they have a lifetime of even a 1-2 year plan at a big discount they would get more people to buy into it if you get something in game for it.  Many people pay alot more for Collector's editons.  It won't be xtra races but something you might see in a CE  might make more players pay in advance long term.

I would consider a Long term/lifetime sub if it was priced right and I got some swag or extra toons per server,or a early launch like PotBS.

I'm almost positive you are right, I'll see if I can find it. It might be an MBJ post on the warhammer alliance forums. MBJ = Mythic president/ Lead game designer.

I don't expect a lifetime offer from them. Even more so, since they are considering to request more than the standard $15 per month subscription fee.

Folks,

There will be no lifetime subscription available for WAR. Not a chance, prayer, hope, etc. I believe lifetime subscriptions are a not good thing for players or for the developer/publisher over the long-term. If we are doing our job, the monthly subscription price will seem quite reasonable for what you get in return. If we aren't doing our job, well, you know where that leads to. All a lifetime subscription does is bring in more money to the company in the short-term and hurt the company in the long-term by providing a financial disincentive to keep improving the product and by contrast, by providing a financial incentive to go to a new game or more expansion packs/monetization options.

In terms of the actual price, we haven't fully discussed that yet. When DAoC came out we charged just a little more than our competitors because we felt we were offering players more and that we thought that the current price point was a bit low for what we were putting into the game. I can promise you this, the price point will not be below what we are charging now for DAoC and it certainly won't be $30 USD per month.

In terms of a combined subscription plan for DAoC/UO/WAR, that's also something I've been against in the past but I'm continuing to think about it as we move forward.

The key thing to remember, as far as my attitude on this is concerned, is that if our subscription price justifies not only the development cost of WAR and continued development and support of WAR, it is a win for all of us. I want WAR's ongoing development (free stuff), customer support, expansions, etc. to be even better than what we had in DAoC and that is not an insignificant cost. It also allows us to stay away from things that I don't believe belong in WAR like ads, RMTs, etc. So, you can be assured that WAR will not be the cheapest MMORPG out there but you will always feel like you are getting a great value from the game (other than the times when you want to grab flaming torches and storm our HQ because we did something dumb).

Too weird to live, and too rare to die

I agree with all of Mark Jacobs' points.

Also, if indeed WAR has a lot of extra services like integrated voice chat (I'd be surprised if it does not, but who knows?), a very robust and informative Herald (the current one is just a placeholder, cannot wait to see the real one), and character information and guild services (WoW Armory is a decent example) included in the subscription price, I think they can easily justify a price up to $19.99 per month.

Of course players do not want to hear it, but the more stuff you put into the game and the more support there is, the more it costs to run. I have no problem paying above the "standard rate" if it is worth it, and I think it will be. Mark Jacobs seems to be hinting that they have large plans that will see our dollars put to good use.

Anyway, I really think EA is putting a lot into the EA Mythic division because it knows that WAR has the potential to be a massive cash cow. Thus, I think the game's support and included features are going to be outstanding.
