Broad topic, I know, but I would like to focus on problem-resolution on this thread as opposed to whine and complain about the current situation.  I just got this webmail from here at mmorpg.com :

"Dear WOW players :
But you in for do not have the time to practice the level the worry, you also in are the honor, the prestige insufficiently worry.
Has not related, please contact with us, all we who you cannot achieve all may for you accomplish.
Please search the WOW PowerLeveling with our website {omitted} and chooses you to need to practice serves
Our price to be extremely cheap, the service is thorough.
If you are satisfied with our price and service, please recommend it to your corps or your friends. We'll appreciate you very much.
If you interest, please contact: {omitted}"

I am convinced in the day and age of modern technology that there are two primary kinds of grammatical errors.  Intentional and Lazy.  I believe this one to be the former.  Perhaps a marketing technique to make us native English-speakers seem somehow smarter than our non-native English speaking counterparts.

In any case, I do my due diligence in the game to report gold-sellers and spammers.  Does anyone have suggestions as to what more can be done as a player / consumer?

I got the same email too. The funny thing is that they can't even hire someone who can write in proper English.

Can we ban the accounts where these are coming from?

I see two ways of dealing with these people.

1) ban the accounts.

2) do a sting op. Pretend to deal with them. Find out about their WOW accounts. Report to Blizzard and have them banned from the game.

Any other suggestions?

Like you guys, I always report a seller if they spam or email me but as long as Blizzard give out buddy keys and 10 day trials they are giving free reign to the gold merchants.

"Waaaagh!"

I might be wrong, but I've always had the impression that a gold-seller's spiel comes from writing one in chinese (or whatever language of the country they're based in) then running it through some gawd-awful online "translation" site or something.

The spellings are usually correct but the grammar/choice of words gives me that impression.

Sadly, there isn't much we as consumers can do, unless the MMO we're playing in are FFA PVP ones that give us the fun mini-sport of killing gold-farmers wherever we find them, (and preferably looting them too).

In situations whereby that isn't possible, asll we can do is report them and hope that the powers that be come up with some method to limit their access.

That is NOT accurate. You *cannot* trade or use in-game email on a 10 day trial account.

Maybe not, but you CAN stand in a major city spamming:

"pls to visit www.wehackyurchar.com for making of cheap gold .happy joy levelling"

Thirty times a second.

I've received in-game mailings for gold-selling in the past, but it seems to be hedged.  Not sure if it was a change in policy or not.  There used to be lots of spams in general chats and other channels, but apparently also has been hedged on World of Warcraft to where they either use /say or /yell.  Sometimes they try to random invite in order to groupspam.

Not again. Study the history of alcohol prohibition, there are all lessons to learn. Nuff said.

There is absolutely nothing you or anyone else can do to stop a person who wants time and has money making an exchange with a person who wants money and has time.

My advice is to simply ignore it and go on with your life. The game is so much more enjoyable when you stop obsessing over this issue.

MMO doesn''t mean only Groups/Guilds/PvP gaming.
It’s many people playing *different* game styles.

Except when you can't quest because the money sellers are either guild owners themselves; or they fund folks who buy the good gear, that would take you centuries to obtain as you don't cheat. They can lose 20 sets of epic gear, but as long as they have a steady stream of cash, they suffer no penalities.

The problem of gold selling is much more than "get along and don't worry about it".
