As far as I know Guild Wars you just pay for the games themselves and the expansion. It is like 40 dollars a game or something but you never pay monthly. Lord of the Rings Online also used to have an option to pay 200 one time and never pay again, not sure if that is still around.

I believe Hellgate:London is that way but I haven't really looked into it much.

Minions of Mirth is around $30 I think, but you can play it free with some restrictions.

MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

I believe Guild Wars is likely the best.  Dont be foold by the term "Free To Play" ( F2P)...sometimes you end up paying more at item malls than you do in a monthly subscription.

Hellgate London (also has optional subscription tho)

LOTRO still has the lifetime sub option

and RF Online / Fury that are P2P games went F2P so you can check those out too...
