you just contradicted yourself. Preorders are used to be money makers prior to game launch by the developers. You are just ensuring by preordering they get a small amount of money prior to launch and then the rest at launch, so even if you cancel the game, devs still get $5 per pre order (or whatever the amount is)

That is not true. When you pre-order your giving the store 5 bucks. They determine by the popularity of pre-orders to how much they will stock into there stores. So they know to order one more over what they will order for the stores sales. Devs dont get none of that money until it hits the stores.

Last i heard the devs got the preorder money, least thats what a dev i knew told me way back in the day. Could have mistaken though

Never pre-order. I did with Dark and Light and seriously regretted it. Every other game I've played since 1994 that I Beta'ed and liked, I bought in the end. (And when I beta I do beta to 'test' and find bugs not just to sample the game). Pre-orders are just a way to get 'early' money for the software developer.

Most  occur at the end of a quarter to show 'extra' revenue.

i don't know how the whole pre-order thing works at other stores but at the gamestop that i work in no one makes money off of preorders the money that you put down goes directly towards the game.  its more in place so we can be sure you buy the game at our store.

you dont pay anything extra.

If that is the case, then why can I go in and change my mind and put my $5 on another game?  I have quite a few times spent $5 on a game, got into a beta (DDO for example), realized I didn't like it, then swapped my $5 for something else.

I don't see the big deal or any risk in a pre order.  All you are doing is handing over $5 to make sure you get a copy the day it comes out.

I have never seen that in all my years of gaming, where you can take your $5 or whatever the initial fee is and transfer it. Once you pay the 5 bucks its done. While i agree $5 is nothing to cry over...look at games like Dark and Light, which promised the world, and never delivered. say if even 10k people preordered the game, the company still made 50k off preorders.

Then you are pre-ordering at the wrong places.  I have done this at Gamestop/EB more than once.

If the combat system is unwieldy and feels like a button mash or if the zones feel small and/or artificially constrained in size where I'm running into invisible walls and feel like it is constantly blocking me for no reason.

Either of these issues or the combination to a degree will cause me to cancel.

Bugs that are game stoping of really irritating will cause me to cancel.

Generally I'm pretty tollerant of things and I don't expect to cancel and will be very disappointed if I do have to.  Ha I'm tollerant cause I like Vanguard still so if I cancel this game is going to really need to be bad.

Foramu Otaku

Hmm, well lets continue with this hypothetical conversation.

I would not cancel my preorder (had I been inclined to preorder) based off a thinly veiled reference to someone having actively played the Beta and knowledge of the issues found there. I mean, hypothetically speaking - if say someone actually did play beta and agreed to the NDA and then came in and made such a post which cites issues but doesn't back them up - I would not willingly trust their opinion. Because there is no way for me to verify that this knowledge is first hand or through some other source. And if said poster was willing to infract the NDA a little but only to th benefit of their post - why not break it all the way and benefit the community. Seeing as said person has admitted that they most likely will not being playing the game in the future.

That and the fact that there are so many undefined variables that are seemingly poster specific that how could I know that the several of the issues may in fact be user related? I would feel inclined though to keep my preorder to try things out for myself thus testing the game under conditions controlled by myself and that pertain to me. Hence in the end, I would feel that I gave the game my best effort to see if it fit for me and not relied on a vague post that is neither hot nor cold by design

Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Touche.

My opinion from people I do know who played the some of beta said the game, there bound to NDA im not, told me that the game was unbalanced PVP wise as of the last time i spook with them. The game has its bugs but thats what is the focus of the Funcom team as of late because they want to release the game and get it out there intact. I personally believe the game will get delayed one more time but that will the last time.

As to the guy who said all mmo's release bad is not a problem on most of the games its just the fact that instead of have roughly 5000-whatever number of testers they use which i know isnt over 50k to haveing 200k+ people logging on and playing. And you just cant really predict what will happen. Not everyone logs on for open beta i usually forget there is one half the time. But i agree with the guy who says do your research and if you think you will enjoy the game go for it. I think if they keep to the conan lore this game will be a awesome game. I've been reading the books and the story line is more then enough to keep gamers entertained. Just will have to wait and see

I've built a new computer not just for this game but also WAR and it's only £25 for the game so I won't cancel even if it turns out to be lame.

Celebrating my tenth year of online gaming...gawd I need a life...=P

I don't think I would cancel my pre-order. Typically I don't put much faith in what is said on forums. Ppl who simply don't like the game are gonna complain the loudest while ppl who enjoy the game aren't gonna spend all that much time on forums stating all of it's good points.

I have tried every game on the released games list over the years. N many haven't held my interest for that long. Perhaps Conan won't either...but I will find out on my own, not paying attention to the complainers. Cause the complainers will goto every game n bitch about something they don't like.

And currently no games on the 'Games in Development' list interest me except Conan. So they get my money...if the game sucks...well it is my money n not yours I lost...so it is nobody else's busness...
