EVE online is completely open pvp to the rim. Was flying in Empire space on my alt and noticed a huge fight right by the NEWBIE starting area in Caldari space. There is very few MMOs that had FFA pvp right at the start <edit- btw dont try to gank in high sec though unless you made a wardec or know how to pull off a caper before the cops arrive lol>

Might be some others like Shadbowbane (didnt play), AC1 DarkTide server, and Classic UO pre-Age of Shadows patch

Yep. Just recently returned to DAoC myself and I've been playing the classic servers' mid-level battlegrounds. They're very fun and open, and it only takes a day or two to reach your first open PvP battleground worth going to (Killaloe 15-19).

City of Heroes\Villains is a lighthearted choice as well. Better for soloing and rarely ever having to worry about a team to go out and participate in open battles.

City of Heroes/Villains isnt open PVP though (rather FFA PVP zones mixed with Hero/Villain zones). I wouldnt recommend it for PVP per se but its highly recommended to check out and find out if you like it for the PVE/PVP mix

The Arenas were pretty fun as well as the "Arena fightnights" on test server but beyond that it has some issues. I dont want to toss salt at it so I encourage others to find out for themselves....

edit -

City of Heroes has excellent use of vertical movement (superjump + combat jump FTW) at least back in my day. Really wasnt made for PVP though like UO / EVE

Open PvP should be a byproduct of the world's balance not something you say I want this gimme.   You've pretty much already defeated yourself because there is no game like that and NEVER will be.
sure there will be lots of MMO's that are open PvP with looting and maybe even skill loss.   but there will never be the FFA PvP game where you just kill other players for the sake of killing.

See the Age of Conan upcoming FFA PVP Server..... The votes for FFA PVP Server were way over 60% I think (cant recall)

Even EQ2 and Vanguard had/have FFA PVP servers... Not to mention EVE Online.... Even City of Heroes has FFA PVP zones... And Spellborn (or did they drop it)... -edit

I am looking for some good OPEN!!!!!! pvp rpg's... not like Guild wars or LOTRO where the pvp is instanced, or even WoW where you have those lame teams... I'm lookin for a hardcore MMO with death penalties, pvp looting, and open pvp.

What you are looking for is Lineage 2; it's everything you said and more, especially hardcore. You can plan to be staying at least a year of more in this game.

Unfortunately, you will be grinding for the first year intensively in order to hit high enough level and get decent enough gear to PVP.  L2 is unforgiving when it comes to level and gear.

I dont mean to sound that mean but for some reason you remind me of the people who plv right away then haunt much lower lv areas and mass kill people or just haunt areas and attack everyone u see

Games where higher lvs can kill lower lvs ruins it for me i've played to many games where high lvs camp lower lv places and mass kill anyone that comes out and you have no chance of defending yourself

But really what your looking for is games like Gunz Rakion stuff like that

but yah really theres very few games like that and i doubt any have a lot of people so very few people like that kind of stuff as for me PvP is the last thing i care about its more like something ill do later on when i get bored of grinding and I dont take it seriously.

also isnt archlord based on hardcore PvPing

He said he was looking for a hardcore game, didn't he?

But, seriously, L2 has changed a lot since the beginning. With all the leveling help that's now in the game (newbie helper buffs, newbie dropped pots, guild academy, free newbie soul shots, etc...) going from lvl 1 to 40 is done in a couple weeks, or less if you play a lot. And while doing this he can open pvp all a long as much as he likes.

Then to take part in castle sieges he'll need to be at least lvl 61+ to be effective, it should take about 2 months to get there depending on how much and how he plays (it can be faster, but also much longer...).

Yea, L2 is a grind, but it's the best of the grinds

Ah ok, my bad, my information is outdated.

My ex-roommate played L2 (non-english version) since launch, I remember him laboring hard getting levels, and it plays out like the early day EQ grind.  I have not seen him for a couple years so maybe things are better now.

Yes L2 is a decent game, and it has a sizable active population.  I personally do not like the artwork of Jap/Korean grind games, but that is my own preference only.
