Darkfall

I read about this game on there website for the first time and i was very impressed.

So then i come to the forums here to find out that this game has been like 7 years in the making, and they dont have anything but screenshots out. No footage at any events, or anything. Its been in a closed beta from what i understand for about 4 years now.

Is this really a viable game to be looking out for? Why does it still have a forum? Im not trying to be mean, but if there is something you guys know that i dont know, please educate me on it, because this seems to be a lost hope, which is sad because it promises some really cool things!

Its still being worked on full time.. theyg ive us updates but they do have some vids

Well, there are VERY different views on this game as i'm sure you are going to find out in this thread.

There is no guarantee that this game will ever see the light of day. Some people claim they "know" it will be in beta by the end of the year, but that is strictly conjecture.

Well there is many different histories and angels to Darkfall whether youre a fanbois or a vaporware claimer. One guys truth is another ones laughing stock. As i see it, Darkfall team raised there bar not just one time but maybe 4-5 times during development time. And its a ambitious game. Loads of features that need to be implemented and balanced, largest handmade game world which need to be filled with content. And the dev team isnt Blizzard- more like 20-30 over the years.

Personally im very optimistic that we will see beta during 2008. Game looks really nice nowadays, very polished and they decided to selfpublish in one region.

There is 5 videos made by the Darkfall Developers and all is downloadable on the DF website. And it seem we will get one about Conquest "soon".

Fair enough, but you never preface it as being a guess. You say "I know!" which makes people think you know something you don't.

To answer your question, people believe this game will come out for the same reason other people believe that other games will release and live up to their expectations.

Take for example AoC and WAR, two of the most anticipated titles this year. People are talking about them and there is more information on these two games than on Darkfall, granted, but do we really -KNOW- that the games will deliver what we hope of them? No, we don't. Not even the Beta-Testers (who can't tell us anything) can -KNOW- for sure. The only people who -can- know are the Developers and so, their word is really all we have to go on.

Some people choose not to believe the developers. They say AoC/WAR will release buggy/bad/miserable. Others say the same things about Darkfall, adding to that, the game will -NEVER- release. In all reality, they don't know, can't know that. They have probably been burned by broken promises from Dev's once too often. I can understand them.

Other people choose to believe the Developers and place their trust in them. These people believe AoC/WAr will deliver what they promised and that they will enjoy the games. And those who place their faith in Darkfall Developers believe that the game will release eventually.

There. That's my 2 cents to it.

7 years in development though?  I'm not saying that Darkfall won't release, but every month and quarter that roll's by really raises more flags. 

Any reasons given for the significant delays? 

I would imagine that if they started working on the game back in 2001 that they've had to update the engine already... and if it takes too much longer, they'll probably have to update it again. 

I know Darkfall has a lot of faithful followers, and I really am not knocking folks for being loyal.  But WAR and AoC at least have launch dates announced (or at least a close est timeframe for launch).  Those two games can be pre-purchased right now online.  So I don't think it's really a fair comparison between Darkfall and WAR/AoC. 

This game NEEDS to be the best game EVER for taking this long to develop.
