I only ever playedthe original guild wars and had great times and some of the best memories ever in an online game with it but after beating the story line and reaching max level i grew tiredof it. i am wondering how good isthe story line and bosses in the expansions and was the level cap ever raised above 20?

I'll deal with each campaign/expansion in detail for you:

1) Factions is the first campaign to be added to the Guild Wars series. It added two new professions - the Assassin and Ritualist - as well as an entire new continent for characters to explore and around 150 new skills. However, the main focus of Factions is clearly PvP. If you plan on trying your hand at PvP, then factions is the expansion for you. You can try your hand at Alliance Battles and many other forms of PvP. The PvE campaign is nowhere near as enjoyable as Prophecies' when it comes to replay value, but playing through it once is quite nice.

2) Nightfall is the second campaign to be released. It added two new professions too - the Paragon and Dervish - and a new continent and around 150 skills too. Nightfall is mainly PvE focused, but also introduced a new form of PvP. The main attraction point of Nightfall is the addition of Heroes to the game, which are basically customizable henchmen. The storyline is on-par with Prophecies' in my opinion.

3) Eye of the North is the first true expansion to Guild Wars and requires at least on campaign to play, which shouldn't be a problem considering you already on Prophecies. It expands on the continent of Tyria (Prophecies continent), adds around 150 new skills, 18 multi-level dungeons and the Hall of Monuments among other things. It can be considered almost completely PvE orientated. The Hall of Monuments allows you to "capture" your achievements in Guild Wars, which can later be carried over to Guild Wars 2, meaning that all your hard work won't be for nothing in the future should you move to Guild Wars 2.

The level cap was never raised above 20, but levels mean practically nothing anymore. You level far quicker in the latest campaigns compared to Prophecies. The game starts when you're level 20 to be honesst. Everything up until then is a tutorial. Instead of working towards levels, titles have been introduced. Basically you can choose a title to display underneath your name when in towns and cities. It gives players incentive to play, meaning that not being able to level up higher than 20 isn't such a huge deal.

Eye of the North is an expansion in that sense that it can only be reached with your already existing characters. To get to Eye of the North you need to start a character on another campaign you already have and then go through the storyline and so on until you reach a place where you can pick up a quest to get to EoTN. While I personally would've recommended you to pick up Nightfall as it's in my opinion the best one for beginners both due to the how it leads you on and that it also introduces heroes, something that'll become one of your favorite features.

Since you now picked up EoTN though you have to play on one of your old characters, or start a new one, and then get to Lion's Arch. Getting to Lion's Arch will however take some time, so I'd suggest you to enjoy the Prophecies campaign.

Eye of the North is basically there to tend to higher level players' needs. It expands on the original Prophecies continent as I mentioned (the top half was never there). By playing through Prophecies you will get lead there eventually.
