Funcom announced today that their Pre-Order program is now in full swing with availability in all of their western markets.

Funcom and Eidos announce that Age of Conan pre-order programs are now fully available in all major territories, including USA, Germany, France, Spain, UK, Oceania and the Nordic countries. Conan fans and MMO gamers are already raving about the incredible pre-order items, including the War Mammoth and Killer Rhino, and today Funcom ups the ante and confirms that everyone who pre-orders may access Hyboria several days prior to the retail launch.*

Ever since Funcom and Eidos started the first pre-orders in early 2008, the program has received great feedback. The exceptional Age of Conan Collector's Edition has topped the charts in numerous online retail chains for weeks, including being #1 on several all-format lists. The most eager fans are therefore urged to order their copy of the Collector’s Edition immediately as it only comes in one print-run.

Gamers who use RMT are like athletes who use steroids.

FUncom is sponsering RMT by offering in game advantages including items and a 3 day play head start for players who pay early with preorders or pay more with collectors editions. It's RMT pure and simple and destroys the basic tenet of a fair and level playing field. I refuse to participate in MMOGs that think this is a good way to generate extra revenue.

With PvE raiding it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fauning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privelege. - Neanderthal

Good post Stradden thanks!

Don't confuse a players ability, with a class being Over Powered.

Wow Samuriasword your a idiot .... if you preorder a game your not paying any extra .... preorders are usually 5$ and they then take 5$ off when you buy the game. Preorder is jsut so they can gauge how many people are goiing to be buying the game better...

Wait, what? These are free bonuses that come with preordering. They don't come with the actual game itself, thus you aren't paying for them. Even the preorder money itself can be refunded, thus leaving you with, guess what, free keys for early access.

By this standard, a game giving away in-game items as veteran rewards is RMT because the company is "rewarding" you for paying them more money than the person who's been in the game for less time.

This also means that games like WoW engage in RMT because they give away free in-game pets with their CEs, and WAR is engaging in RMT because those who pre-order CE's get early access too. LotRO did the same thing for preorderers, and SOE engages in "legal" RMTs as it is.

So what MMO exactly do you play?

Umm.....couple of thousand  testers..who cannot say anything about their experiences. NO open beta...no beta for AOC vets... and now a call to all the lemmings to pre-order.

Don't think so.

So let me get this straight. The have not lifted the NDA for the beta testers and they are going ahead with the pre-order. That makes me a bit concerned.

Lemmings are out there though. Part of me thinks Funcom really knows what they're doing lol, just some secret strategy.

True, a preorder does not cost more, but enticing preorder sales before the NDA has been lifted by offering ingame advantages is sleezy and sends up a red flag about the quality and condition of the game. And  what about the players who start playing after release for whatever reason? Maybe they heard about the game after it was too late to preorder? It's simply not fair to sell ingame advantages. All ingame items should be earned ingame thru expended effort period, and no one should be given an early start over others period.

Currently I play no MMOG and have not been subscribed to any MMOG for over 2 years now, only beta tested and free trialed a few. I know this preorder and collectors edition practice of including ingame advantages is becoming more popular, and it's wrong, and I refuse to play any game that practices it. In the old days players received external game items only for preordering and buying collectors editions and that's the way it has to be in order to maintain the integrity of the game.
