Age of Conan

Since I've seen some confusion about the "instance" system used in AoC, I figured maybe this might shed some light on the subject.

Anyone who has played Anarchy Online will be familiar with this system already.

The general world is broken down into non-instanced "zones".

There are a couple of different types of "instances" used. Private instances, dedicated toward a group, or individual (think "missions" in old AO, or the type of Quest instances you see in LOTRO, WoW, etc).

"public" instances.....far more common. What happens here is basically a zone gets copied when it gets "full" to prevent over-crowding and over-camping. Think Temple Of The Winds in old AO.

Say the instanced zone has a player cap of 100. Once it's full, a second iteration of the zone is spawned, and the next 100 players enter "instance2".

To clarify a bit, here's a post I found on the official forums:

ILikePonies asks: "Can you confirm I've got the instancing setup for Conan correct (just to be sure we're talking the same language, by instancing I mean merely making a copy of a zone for any reason [for instance I'd call DDO completely instanced, even the city zones], and not just limited to dungeons/raids/etc.)?

Outdoors - not instanced
Cities - not instanced (?)
BKs - not instanced, no player cap (?)
City building interiors - instanced (?)
PvE cities - instanced
Tortage nighttime - instanced
PvP minigames - instanced
Some (all?) dungeons - instanced (some have caps of 100 players)
Anything else I'm missing?"

Athelan: "Your summation is generally accurate. We do not instantiate Outdoor area's etc as much as possible, but we do some quest areas, dungeons, PvP mini game areas, and resource and building playfields (PvE player cities)"

I hope this gets rid of all the damn "Guildwars" comparisons, and helps those who may be confused.

I heard that the PVP was instanced - is this true?

There is a sticky at the top of these forums. Only pvp that is instanced is the mini games.

BK = Border Kingdoms = where massive siege PvP is = not instanced.

I am sure Conan enjoyed participating in those mini-games.

Avery  the facts you get are so wrong its untrue, you just make things up as you go along, are you actually in beta?  or you arnt and you have no clue but just go about what you read and google up?

Im sure Conan enjoyed the non instance massive pvp in the border kingdoms. Im also sure he will enjoy his game based on 75 yrs of lore. Im also sure he will enjoy playing something worthwhile too this summer.

Border Kingdoms are a zone, there were massive posts on this on the official forum with clarification.

Or arent you aware of whats going on?
