They have done a big job yes but MMOs are not like cornflakes or single player games. You dont sell a MMO to an individual you sell it to social networks. Its somewhat similar to hobbies or amateur sport clubs. The activity you do is often almost an excuse for the social interaction you have within your interest community. This means the interaction with your fellows is more important than the object of that interaction for most people, but the object is what makes that interaction possible. In order to make these network change the object of their interaction you need to get the network in general to decide to move on to your product. That means traditional marketing dont really work. You have to create hype and get people to tell their friends maybe we should all move to this activity (game) instead of that (other game or other activity). A cool add or nice review will maybe entice an individual but that wont make his social game network see it the same way unless he can from personal experience tell them that its a good activity. And take note PERSONAL experience. So when thousands of potential players now have a bad experience with the OB then it means far more for the potential future popularity of the game than any game adds or publicity campaign funcom have made in the past years. And that is why I doubt the wisdom of their public relation department. They think last milenium and what people learned in business schools a decade ago instead of modern social networking. |

Originally posted by LieberungWhy are you blaming people on these forums? Lets look at FC and how they have handled this situation. 1. No feed back from the devs on their own forum but they are quick to shut any negative opinions about their game down. 2. People will tell you its a different client but as i have said before its not. Oh , wait the debugger? right , so why not turn it off because its giving their game a bad rep? 3. I always said that AOC would be like vanguard when it released and anyone who says VG was different has a personal vendetta against SOE or have jumped on the bandwagon. 4. Contrary to what amazing says , ,many people in the CB have been complaining to FC for months. Many people said that ,if they released AOC in its current form its over , but they have no choice because of money(vanguard /sigil all over again) 5. I dare anyone to tell me that AOC can handle 200 people on screen casting spells and melee and siege like they have been promoting.? no f-u-c-k-ing way. Ask amazing weather anyone in CB actually tested any siege or any spell-weaving in CB because i haven't and i don't think anyone else has. If you asked a dev they would tell you its all tested internal? wtf is that lol,sao they keep the main parts of this game away from the cb tester ? 6. Sorry but a lot of the people i see complaining about AOC have been rampant fan boys who have slated anyone who comes to this forum with bad things to say about AOC. Now the very same hypocrites are slating the game they supposedly love? i am glad and i hope they have wasted their money on buying this top notched graphical piece of shit. 7. WAR have promoted their game on what it will be like and i will say it again just so the crying fanboys can hear..WAR will out sell AOC by millions..fact is, they have the winning formula. 8. Amazing had you all fooled because even now he is trying to defend a game that is broke and no where ready for release. Do you really think that FC would put such a buggy client forward knowing how buggy it is? do you really think that the bugs will suddenly disappear after level 20? i have played two classes up to level 80 before they were wiped and other than different skills ,its a boring game once the novelty wears off. 9. People have been complaining on beta leakers and their is a thread now talking about the miracle patch that will never come? its 2 weeks old and from players on the AOC CB forums. 10. Ok people are not going to like this but its fact. AOC is like Vanguard was a year ago but IMO its worst because its an instant loading pathetic excuse for a mmorpg that feels like a single rpg all the way to level 80? Have funcom got the money SOE have to turn this game around in the next year...no, so you will be paying to test a game that is really in beta..just like VG was a year ago. Vanguard today is not the same game and is actually a very good game with minor livable bugs. If you have not played it in a long while or you have never played it then instead of jumping on the bandwagon go to the forums and get a buddy key. It will do until war comes out and its actually fun on the FFA server. I wont lie Vanguard needs more people playing it or to give it a chance/second chance because its actually very similar to eq1 . It still has only one raid dungeon but that's deceiving because it has 100s of mini dungeons that are bigger that wow raid dungeons so their is plenty to do.
AOC = Guildwars but not even as good as that game. |

He he Moon in your last points you showed what your agenda really was with your attacks on AoC. You want people to come play the game YOU like and hope by downtalking AoC and adding a little peptalk about Vanguard that might happen. Its easy to attack AoC right now. Funcom has been really either unlucky or stupid with the OB and that give people with a different agenda free oportunity to try and promote their agenda. |

this website= decent for 80% of the development of a game (usually the parts where little news is released) for the rest of the 20% its hell and full of total crap. that 20% (unfortunately) is just before games are to be released. i have learned to deal with this by making up my decision on whether to buy a game at least 2 months before it is released (usually a week or two before the doom and gloom floods the threads). i will buy AoC and i have yet to decide on whether to buy WAR. |

Originally posted by afoaa That was not my impression as I felt that Moon's post was mentioning AoC's issues and pointing out that if you are ready to work with them you might as well play VG. Anyways, it is easy to attack AoC because it is overhyped and does not deliver on multiple levels. |

FC made a lot of mistakes in this OB? lol i have been in closed beta for a while and like i have said , the mistake by FC have been around long before the OB. I am a WAR supporter and when that game comes out or when the open beta starts ,that's what i will be playing. Vanguard is an acceptable pass time which will do for now? |
