This is as close to oblivion as any game ever had come!

It see how you can see a comparison here to Oblivion. I too felt that way many times when completing Destiny quests. However that wasnt a possitive for me since I'm not a fan of that 1st person style of RPG it was more action adventure

Ok lets looks at some Wiki definitions for comparison

"A role-playing game (RPG) is a type of game in which the participants assume the roles of characters and collaboratively create stories. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, they may improvise freely; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the games.

"The actions succeed or fail according to a system of rules and guidelines"

Does this statement ring true in AoC or does the Twitch aspect rule whether or not you succeed for fail?

Another Wiki snipet

" Twitch gameplay keeps players actively engaged with quick feedback to their actions, as opposed to turn-based gaming that involves waiting for the outcome of a chosen course of action. Twitch can be used to expand tactical options and play, test skill in various areas (usually reflexive responses) and generally add difficulty (relating to the intensity of "twitching" required). "

Turn-based gaming is used to define Twitch gameplay as it's opposite. To go further stating it generally adds difficulty.  Thats good right?

Let's go back and rehash the comparison's to Oblivion which make a ton of sense when you consider this game has always been slated for cross-platform gameplay on the PC and XBOX 360.

Do you want to play your $70 game + $19 /month PC MMORPG with a 12 yr old on his Console? Its pure speculation at this point and prolly a year away before we might see this but it is likely they will be on the same servers.

It is an off line RPG solo game for its first 20 levels.

Post 20,  it's a closed box with preloads FPS. Everything is preloaded with minutes long waiting screens.

With extreme laggy graphics the moment more than 5 players fight on the screen.

They offered seemless open worlds for pixels.

If this is going to be accepted by the players it is the end of open world RPG as we know it.

You have to play online to play the game, its not offline.

I can tell either you have never played, or your just very misinformed.

I hope for the sake of the Genre this doens't come to fruition

Personally having only played in the Open Beta at this point I cannot see past level 13. But if what you say has merit we should all be worried. Massively Multi Player Online to me is Open world. You can Define RPG in alot of ways but instanced solo play or Guild wars type of mini-games isn't very massive to me. This is where I feel DDO failed miserably.  But thats just me personally, everyone has their own flavor.

Enjoy PVP week =)

True Love Never Dies

posts #4-#9 said everything right off the bat, this discussion should've been over on page 1

mmorpg, and if they start changing the maps every 30mins or 100 kills, and limiting our max 16k money by how many kills we have or bombs we've planted, then i'll come back here and apologize. But untill then don't worry, I don't think any of us expect an apology.

are you comparing this to ddo as in how everything in ddo was instanced including cities and 'outside' areas (rofl) ? because if you're refering to more than say the fact aoc uses some instances for pve (some are open) and it uses instances for the pvp minigames, then i kinda have to ask if you've played any of the real mmos recently, and by played i dont mean played to lvl 40 or bought a lvl 70, i mean really played. AoC shows no signs of DDO other than the fact that they both uses instances, nevermind the fact ddo uses instances everywhere and aoc uses it in a mixed pve/pvp dungeon/minigame only envinronment.

I have not played the game at all, but from the videos i v seen it looks more like fps to rpg to me. Combat looks wierd, like the guy who wins is the guy who manually dodges most hits (much like bunny hoping imo) i prefer the reactive combat typical rpgs have. I actually like some kind of auto-targeting that way it comes down to how well you react to the other guy's actions, not who mashes buttons better/faster

Its something that has to be experienced to be appreciated imo. When you react in auto attack system you push buttons still. Age of Conan is real time attacking and defence. Auto Attack que's your attack and does the "doing motion" for you.

I'm glad someone with real experience with AoC has stated it like is it...  Real Time attacking and defense (or Real time Combat)

Real Time Combat is tricky in an MMO environment due to the inherent problems due to differences in systems, connection speed and net-code.

As with FPS games where that small group always seems to dominate whether it be faster rig or running scripts. This brings to mind another one of my old favorites. Planetside

Real time combat is quite a gamble in an mmo

lets just hope Funcom has done their homework
