Need a game that will allow me to Rob and Kill other players...can I Rape the corpse aswell? |
It's a fact! The bottomline is Lucas Arts will not allow (2) TWO Starwars mmorpgs to run at the same time. This time Darth SMED won't be able to stop what should have been done years ago. It's time for the game we once knew and loved to be put out of it's misery. It's time to say good bye forever. I don't feel bad because the game died in November of 2005. It died at a time when a good number of new players were coming into the game. I mean the game was making a come back. They were fixing the Ranger and Smuggler professions and new content was on the horizon. Then Darth SMED and his underlings did the unthinkable. Now a New Dawn approaches and with it limitless possibilites. I know many of you think this game will be just another WOW CLONE with a STAR WARS skin. But who knows, Lucas Arts might get it right this time. BIOWARE and George Lucas may very well be happy and content to get 300k to 500k in subs. Let's be honest, those aren't bad numbers and if they made a Pre-CU style game with better PVE / PVP modes...they would get the VETS that left. 300K in subs at $15.00 USD per Month = 4,500.000 500k in subs at $15.00 USD per month = 7,500,000 ALMOST $100 MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR COULD BE MADE OFF THE HARDCORE PLAYERS. And these are the kind of players who will be around for years on end...if you don't do the kind of shit SOE did back in the day. how much is enough people?
REGARDLESS....When KOTOR3 goes live, SWG is DEAD! (que the soft verison of "march of the empire")

Come to The Rodo Report! |
Well , you are peaching to the choir in my case for the most part. Although I agree that KOTOR3 is going to be an impressive alternative to the ailing NGEof SWG I would not consider it a replacement as far as the fact that the era of KOTOR is only familar to gamers and readers of related novels. The Star Wars MMO that would need to replace SWG would have to be one that is within the timeperiod of the six movies (like SWG) to obtain the much larger Star Wars audience like the rumored MMO to run concurrent with the new series. Now that would be the NGE killer.

SWG pre cu/nge wanted! |
Originally posted by JestorRodo I think the KOTOR setting is completely uninspiring. And with what the Bioware CEO said of WoW, I can only fear this game is going to be wow with star wars skin and a gaziliion jedis in a story arc (= linear) driven mmo. Maybe even without real pvp. So I am not looking forward any more to this. I can't stand the thought of them moving to this time period. I could live with the Clone Wars and a sandbox pvp mmo, but I doubt we will see it. Ever. I just want my pre nge SWG back with a new graphics engine and more balances, less buffs and less bugs too. Preferably with a lot more content too.

But do you really think there is room for two such mmorpgs in this market? Also a more "adult" audience would seem a bit more stable from a biz prospective. I think game with good depth and complexity do far better if there is plenty of rich new content from time to time. I know seeking a broad range of people is key to success...but....what about a game that does just that? 1) all the depth and complexity of the Pre-CU game 2) all the PVE / Raiding content of WOW 3) All the social and sandbox play of the Pre-CU game (player run economy and cities, ect) 4) No Classes 5) No levels 6) Be who and what you want to be! 7) create your own story 8) Space combat like EVE only with ship interiors WHY NOT TAKE ALL THE BEST FEATURES FROM MANY MMORPGS and COMBINE THEM INTO A SINGLE SUPER-GAME?

KOTORMMO isn't guaranteed to do any better than the NGE currently is. Only way that it will is if it's not a WOW clone, when it likely will be more WOW than Pre-CU. You are correct in saying that the NGE won't survive a new MMO launch, there is no financial reason to keep it open AT ALL except to keep something going to have a player base (tiny as it is) to move to the new game. Frankly the only way the new game gets to 100K subscribers or more is if they learned the REAL lesson of the CUNGE, that being that skills based and hardcore is the game that your real "target audience" wants and will pay for. WOW with lightsabers= sub 25K players. I doubt that LucasArts realizes this.

I agree that KOTOR mmorpg will be the /db to SWG. It makes baby Jesus happy! It did not have to be that way though. I know if SOE/Smed had decided to admit to their mistakes roleback and not be so cockey SWG could still be alive today. I also know i would keep both subs current on both a KOTOR mmo and SWG if that were the case. At that point if two Star Wars games were running well and bringing in money there would be no reason to get rid of one. Its all about the money. LA had nothing to do with implimentation of the NGE. It was all SOE chasing the WOW market. The only thing LA did was supply SOE with the content and give them (SOE the company who LA trusted in) permission to develope a MMO. What SOE did with it after that was not LA fault but LA's mistake for blindly approving. Star Wars has a massive fan following. Inorder for SOE to get SWG to the point where it currently is today the results tell a story of just how many Star Wars fans SOE pissed off. The result is SOE turning away fans who have stood in line 5 days to see Episode III but no longer want to have anything to do with a Star Wars game because of how badly SOE ran it into the ground. Now that we have a crediable and dependable company such as Bioware calling the shots on a new Star Wars mmo, we might finally see SWG suffer the same fate as Old Yeller. A Bioware Star Wars MMORPG will do well just for the simple fact it is Star Wars. Also it will help that unlike SOE, Bioware has yet to make an ass of themselves in the mmorpg community. -SOE amazes me with their arrogence and on the day Smed gets fired i want to be first in line to give him a swift kick in the ass.
You can bet Bioware will be getting a few subs from me with a KOTOR mmorpg release. |

Few things to point out and most of it none of you will like... The first thing is remember what system KOTOR 1 and 2 came out on before coming to the PC. Both came out on the Xbox a few months before coming out on the PC. Now do any of you really think for a minute that if this game comes out that they are going to make it PC only? I'd put good money on that this game will be out on the Xbox 360, how come? Well BioWare has come out a number of times and has had nothing but love for the Xbox and Xbox 360. Not only that but BioWare knows how easy it is to make a game for both the 360 and PC as well both are the same for the most part. Microsoft who more then likely will push for a KOTOR 3 being on the 360 as KOTOR 1 and 2 are some of the biggest selling Xbox titles. And I really don't see Microsoft saying "Oh yeah just come out with it on the PC." KOTOR 3 chances are will be pushed as a Games for Windows title along with an Xbox Live title as well. And then you have EA and LA in there. Both will go after the money, and both know that's going to be pushing the title on both the Xbox and PC. Tell the truth I wouldn't put it past LA and Microsoft trying to get some of the old school Star Wars PC or Arcade games onto Xbox Live Arcade. And pushing some of the bigger selling Star Wars Xbox titles onto Xbox Originals. Well also pushing the Movies, Cartoons and maybe even the Live Action show onto Xbox Live Marketplace. Really hands down the game is more then likely going to be on the 360 as well as the PC. And that's something I don't see sitting too well with many of you. Another thing to bring up is the man who will most likely be helming this game (if it is an MMO) Gordon Walton. Also known as Tyrant for those of you that used to play Ultima Online. There is also a good read from him over here www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php Now really the man has seen the best and lord knows the worst of what can happen in MMO's. Still look at that list, granted some of it shows what SOE did wrong with SWG. Not just with the NGE but from the very start of the game. Still he brings up a few things that many of you will dislike hearing. Lessons 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11 come to mind. In 4 he talks about allowing Solo Play in an MMO, something many of you have said you hate. Now I'm with him on this to a point, I feel there is room for both Solo Play AND Group Content. In 8 he talks about why you shouldn't tune the game to the "hardcore" and hell he brings up a great point in that. Lesson 9 is another one I don't see any of you really backing. Lesson 10 he for the most part ignores the whole "sandbox" idea that the SWG Vet beloves. And 11 says it best, make the game easy to learn, hard to master. Still that doesn't sound like someone who would back a Pre-CU like KOTOR game. And chances are that's the man who will be running the game. So really looking at those who are working on this MMO I'll say this much, I don't think this game is going to be pushed out as another Pre-CU like game with Alpha Classes and the like. Rather I see this much with this game. It's going to be on both the PC and Xbox 360. It's going to be level based, and have more of an "Action RPG" feel to it. The game is going to have Solo things in it, however it will still have Group Content and PvP content. It's going to be "story driven" much like every BioWare game has been. Again I don't see this being SWG Pre-CU 2, rather I see this game being a very good MMORPG with some good minds and ideas behind it. And I can see it hitting the million player mark if it's done right. |

Originally posted by MikeMB I think you're probably right MikeMB. But it's funny to me that everything you've listed as what this new MMO might be seems exactly what the NGE tried to be. In other words it re-enforces the opinion of the OP in that it would destroy SWG as it currently is. It may not be what a vet like myself would be looking for, but I'd bet it's exactly what most current subscribers are looking for. |
