Age of Conan

Okay, this post is to refute all you naysayers that say the game has poor performance.  After reading the tech forums on AOC and how hundreds of ATI users are reporting problems running the game with decent performance, I decided to do a little test.

So I spent the better part of Sunday digging through the garage till I found my old atari 2600.  Now some of you may not believe.  Some of you may even laugh and think this is a joke.  But no, this is real.  In a little over 4 hours I was able to slightly modify my atari 2600 to run AOC, and the ironic thing is it is getting 30 to 40 fps on medium settings with shadows disabled.  So imagine what you could do with your pc if you have any skillz at all and know what you are doing.

Anyway, back to the mods I did.  First thing's first, there is no way to get the disc into the cartridge slot.  This might seem like a no brainer, some of you might try this and I am just saying, you are wasting your time here.  Instead, you will want to connect your atari 2600 via an analogue/digital converter (radioshack $5) into your DVD player.  This step is not intuitive.  Most people will not even realize that yes, a standard DVD player can read and load AOC.

Next problem was memory.  For all you people out there determined to use the cartridge slot, rejoice.  This is where the cartridge slot comes in.  I simply slid my external solid state drive into the cartridge slot and it fits perfect.  Ofcourse, you may have to measure the slot's apperature to get the correct size drive.  I was lucky and the one I had fit perfectly. 

My monitor is my hi def tv, which is connected to my dvd player.  Hah! So for $5 and dvd player and TV I already own, I am now enjoying AOC! 

I was partly skeptical myself this would work.  The graphical capability is prehistoric to what is currently available.  But when I turned on my atari 2600 and slid the disc into my dvd player, I'll be damned if it didn't work.  Not only did it work, but it exceeds performance of the haters and complainers out there that are saying AOC's engine is not optimized.  So I disprove that nonsense.  I get 15 to 20 fps in tortage!  Which considering that it is running on an Atari 2600 is acceptable to me.

In conclusion, yes it works if you have some decent skillz.  It's not funcoms fault if you have inferior gear or you don't know 101 on how to mod your stuff.  If you think everything will be handed to you in life, wrong!  You have to get off your lazy arses and work if you want this gem to sing!!!  So learn how things work and maybe you will not have so much to complain about.

Whether or not any of this is true, its not running off of the Atari 2600s hardware.

Atari 2600? Isn't that what I used to play Sonic the hedgehog on, when I was like... 8 years old?

You must be kidding me. And how does it runn of the CD? Don't you have to like... install it or something?

That was a Sega genesis, the Atari is incredibly older than that.

I got AOC to work on my super pong console. Runs on high settings too
