I hope this launches, I hate SWG since they changed it to the NGE. And if a KOTOR theme MMO comes out I'l lcrap my pants!

After BioWare and LucasArts made a deal last year to work together, the internet was ablaze with speculation about a new Star Wars MMO in the works. It makes sense considering the popularity of the Knights of the Old Republic series from BioWare and the much poorer status among fans of the non-BioWare Star Wars Galaxies. Historical past? Jedi and Sith battling across the galaxy? To we Star Wars nerds, that sounds quite a bit like the "Old Republic" timeline, which BioWare Senior Writer Drew Karpyshyn helped flesh out with the KOTOR series and by penning the Darth Bane novels.

The script goes on to show an exchange between the player and a character named Fuse, a naive bomb designer. The portions of the script that we received are fairly heavy with dialog, which isn't typical for an MMORPG, but it does read very much like a script to a KOTOR game. This could mean that the two projects are still separate. On the other hand, the game was described to the tipster as an MMO, and "heavy dialog" is practically BioWare's calling card.

1UP contacted LucasArts about the script pages we saw, but unsurprisingly their response was not forthcoming: ""We don't have any comment beyond what we've already announced."

This isn't quite a smoking gun blaster yet, and our contact isn't Deep Throat; but the script looked legitimate and the style and tone of it shares a lot in common with the BioWare games we already know, including the more recent (but fairly similar) Mass Effect. We'll keep you posted as more news surfaces.

Stop spreading these rumors. KOTOR is as single player as it gets.

Battle between Sith and Jedi? Yea its Old republic timeline and any other xcept maybe for the 4,5,6 movie timeline...

Lucas/Bio MMO will be Star Wars, but KOTOR is a Single player series and it doesnt make sense in making it MMO. It would lose its "charm".

Star Wars MMO can be anything, why does it has to be called KOTOR? KOTOR is perfectly fine as a single player game as I stated already.

Man I wish they would just release a trailer or something!

I have read a few novels set in the Old Republic era (and a ton of comics). I also played the XBOX game, it's a cool RPG. But I likely would not be too interested in playing in this era of the universe (unless it's just a flat out kick ass game).

Personally, I'd like a new Star Wars MMO set in the classic era. Maybe even following Return of the Jedi, and have the Imperials struggling and fighting over whats left of their Empire and the former Rebels struggling to establish the New Republic. But the problem with that is: no Vader, no Jabba, no Boba Fett. etc. (same as a game set in the ancient Old Republic times).

But, being realistic, the new Star Wars MMO will (very likely) be set in the new film trilogy era (the last years of the Old Republic).

And it might be good to go ahead and get used to the idea that the new Star Wars MMO will most certainly be more like World of Warcraft than classic Star Wars Galaxies.

It's just logical.

1. It'll be for consoles
2. Everyone will be a Jedi

The only Star Wars I want to play in again is one where I can play my own hero like in SWG.
