Given: Instead of skill decay (so you can only keep up the skills you use the most), allow the player to choose a set of primary, secondary, and tertiary skills in the beginning (like Daggerfall) so they have a big enough skill bank to still be whatever they want to be. I feel that skill decay takes away from the feeling of advancement, which would make grinding mobs feel empty. They need some sort of stone-slab progression system where you're able to keep building up, whether it's EQ-style AA, or the ability to take on more skills, or whatever. To add to the feeling of progression, allow these skills you chose to have an experience bar that replaces that of the general leveling bar, and every time you gain a skill-level, have stats that are related to it increase (ie. damage spell levels increase mana and intelligence, healing spell levels increase mana and wisdome, ect.) I see an amazing game here, they just can't forget about the players' sense of accomplishment and character advancement. Perhaps make some aspect of advancement unlimited =) like a way to keep getting points to distribute. Just a couple bones I threw out to you guys that I know players would like to see. |

Want Darkfall now! |
Good ideas. But its as simple as they have done it. The skills you use are your primary skills. If you like to fight, ride and use stealth..that will be your primiry skills and you will use them. A few weeks later you begin to hang around with pirates, and you begin to sail a ship.....3 weeks later those are you primary skills. One year later you begin to track down players and assassinate them.....and those become your primary skills.
Its almost as you current playstyle forms you character in a very honest way. You cant cheat that system by "locking" your skills and doing something else. This way its a dynamic gameplay. Players yopu know and havent seen in mounths could have changed very much....same as yourself : ) |
