I think it's a little too long after the release of the game to be posting an impromptu testimonial for it on a website that doesn't cover the subject matter. Especially when every website on the tubes has done a review of it.

Runescape amounts to poop on a stick.

If the entire population hates the game and they gather in one zone, woo-hoo. But I really dont think anyone will care.

Okay, thank you for your input. But I was actually wondering how the PvP ruleset works. Like, what are the rules. Opinions about griefing are of no concern to me.

Also, what kind of populations are we talking about (numerically) for each of the server load words (low, medium, high)

Well that sounds terrible.

It's not going to happen. DAoC is going to dwindle and die, as much as I hate to say it. The damage has been done, and the playerbase has been lost. I can't even imagine anything that could bring players back. However, if they released a sequel (much like eq2) I think a lot of the veteran community would return at least for nostalgia. I know I would.

Recently downloaded the "play the fae" 14 day trial for Ever quest II and I have to say that it definitely got my attention. Played firstly as a fae because thats all that was available upon first creation, and while I am traditionally a griefing ne'er-do-well, I found myself frolicking joyously around the fairyland raining lightning upon little crabbies.

Now, I played to level 10, and was quite frustrated realizing the level cap is 10 for the trial. Rolled a dark-elf assassin and had a good time of it getting to ten.

What i'm wondering is, before I decide to purchase this, what is the PvP like?

I kind of got the impression that it's pretty open ended, bad characters vs good characters. And if you run into a good zone you can pretty much gank anyone you want? Fill me in please.

Care bears need not contribute to this thread.

Been playing for about 2 months now. Have a well outfitted rifter, no corporation, and I have about 20 kills to my name.

I suggest that DemonKnight one accepts the private chat.

I was thinking that same thing. After 5 years you can't help but know every class.

Its as simple as this:

Guild Wars does not have a persistant world, therefore it is not an MMORPG.

Its just simply NOT "massively" multiplayer. I don't understand how this thread got this long.

I played this game when it came out, when I was alot younger and more naiive. I thought it was satans gift to horrible gaming. I thought I had unexcuseable server lag, but I didn't put 56k + barely low tech computer + mmorpg = ? together. I am really, really tempted to go back and play this now. This was a great review btw, and after playing EvE this might be the kind of game i'm looking for until something more flashy and not WoW related comes out. Definatly Sitting on the fence atm :\

This game is centric around PvP, and the PvP is pretty weak, imo. You need a HUGE level gap to solo, and 3-4 people to kill someone your level once you're in the 35-45 range. Be warned, the game is pretty amusing at first, but its not worth the 50 dollar price tag.

Because, while I'm not a Tolkien Fan, I have in fact read all the books several times.  I have seen all the movies, several times and I understand what I'm looking at when I sit in front of a game.

[...]

From their own admissions (On their site)  they'd like to include PvP of some sort but it won't be open PvP.  Yes, anything they do will be consensual. I'm a PvP nut myself but I can understand their logic.

The layered instancing I found to actually be a very cool feature.  I like that you can affect a change you can experience later on as you progress in the story so that the same can become different.

For those looking for a more traditional RPG experience with crafting available, I think it will be a hit.  For those that want a more interactive experience with PvP as a core foundation, this isn't it.

Yeah, I can understand the logic behind NOT implementing some sort of PvP between races / factions, but it would have been, for lack of a better word, cool.
Also, the layered instancing.... if I understand correctly this was done in Guild Wars as well? (Pre/Post Searing Ascalon)
Its too bad that there will be such a hard core crafting system in this game to not support any kind of non PvE content. Ultimately i'm just whining because I wanted to play an Uruk Hai and squash some little hobbit meat sacks. Sigh, maybe in an expansion.

this article has confirmed for me what i thought. i wont care about this game at all. it is nothing but a single player rpg, but with lots of players. it is world of warcraft on the middle earth.

nothing for the player to interact. only quests, and quests and quests. but the storyline is given, no player based economy or politics, no way to play on the bad side, no way to influence on the game world at all.

this is not a world were you live and feel free to do what you want. just a place to do some missions. they even show you some places of the world where you can not yet go. you have to wait for the proper mission

oh my!!!! why did i start to play EVE? now everything seems a wathered down childish game compared to it

Haha, word dude. I feel the same way. Ultimately this game looks like... it has an end. WTF kind of an mmorpg is that? You can only cram so much conent into the space that they have alloted themselves, especially with or without getting uber flamed by the LoTR Purists out there (speaking) I really wouldn't mind if they just picked a little touched time like around the Fall of Beriland and gave you some stuff to do around then. It would certaintly feel alot more like impending doom, what with the actual impending doom impending.
