You all should learn to whine less ,  FLS ( Flagship studios) havent said anything about selling out.

If SOE gets into this they will only handle the online account / billing system.

I have played Eve off and on for about three years now.  I have played enough to form an opinion of the game that is less than what a lot of the fanatics would have to say about the game.

CCP's incessiant desire to keep Eve a PvP game means that people who don't like PvP but do like Space mmo's have to go looking for things to do while staying out of the way of the gank squads and empire gate gankers.  We also have to push our way through macro miners.

i put money on the idea that there is a niche out there of people who want something between WoW and Eve set in space.  I'm not saying all gamers want something between wow and eve set in space.  But some nights I just want to pew pew some NPC's and Eve is set up in such a way that you are either in pvp configuration ---or--- your in PvE configuration.  As well, the actual pew pew of the game is boring. Even with t2 guns all the way around on my battleship there is no drama to the engagement.  Just like Eq, WoW and every other MMO out there the combat system is lackluster at best.  Indeed, I see little difference between Eve and Pre-Trammel UO.  If you liked Pre-Trammel UO (and you really, really need to THINK back) then eve is for you!  Me, I like a balanced and fair game.  If I have my mining ship out of a protected area then i m taking a risk, but there should be a place for me to go where the risk of being ganked is far less - this is gaming concept established years ago and one CCP fails to implement in any exciting way.

I do not think Eve is as sandbox as they would like you to think.  There are a lot of neat concepts in the game and on the top of my list exploration. If you have 15 hours a day to sit at a gate and shoot anything that goes through than you might have fun.  But if you step out of the PvP mold the systems are totaly repeative.  Mining is icon wars, exploration inside empire space is (in my experience) useless because someone else has likely found it.  Don't even get me started on missions.

The international aspect of the player community is very interesting. But IMHO the only community that had more racist and venom spewing members of the community was UO back in the day.  I think it might be due to the diversity of the player pop (certainly its not CCP's fault persay).

Yes we need a space mmo with a PvE focus. A game that has some depth and gives players some freedom to play a game without the utter competitive nature of Eve.  Eve is a pvp game that  attempts to grab non pvp players, presumably, so the gankers have something to shoot at. I challenge exactly how "free" you are in this game.

I site empire gate ganking as an example of CCP's lack of desire to make the game balanced. CCP does not recognize safe areas, which is fine. But guess what else is fine? Its ok to not want to play a game that doesn't have safe areas.  Its ok to want to have a game experience in peace after a hard days work without worrying about some dudes from Denmark named John5534 and Bill3325 blowing you up in empire space without any real consequence.

Indeed, we need a brand new, fresh game that properly balances PvP and PvE.  Eve does not balance the two communities in any fun way. We need a game that has fun PvE content and makes you feel like you're in space (gee maybe even a game that doesn't have 400000 star gates to travel through just to reach a point in space).

/discuss

I whole heartely agree on your views of the game

first time i ever think that has happened :o

Well lets see if SOE gets involved or not , it is after all EA who owns Bioware now , yes Lucas Arts have copywright on Star Wars,  but doesnt mean SOE will have anything to do with it.

I'd say its doing pretty good but then again its also utterly ruined now.

First of all lag is so horrible, servers going up and down by will , your loosing your items you have grinded in your inventory, you have chantra items that dissapear and your chantra credits that go missing as well.

good luck.

The thing is, the people that play SWG now either play it because its the only Star Wars MMO, because its fast and easy no brainer wow style action or for sentimental reasons (vets).

Most never expirienced the original SWG with its complexity, and got "drafted" by the new SWG advertising campaign. They found what they expected and liked it, so they played it. They never read the original SWG handbook, they have no idea ;)

But can we blame them? No. We can only pity them for never having expirienced SWG in all its original beauty.
Maybe they even are a new generation, a wowified generation. The gimme gimme fast fast generation.

To all the old vets that still play for sentimental reasons all i can say is: Make the cut, all your old firends are long gone. SWG has no future.

I play it for the sentimental reasons, been playing since 03 , and no actually my friends are still there, most of them anyhow , i still have a good batch of my friendlist that keeps popping online, maybe not everyday  but several times a week.

Archlord is a pretty broken game , for the random crash to desktops to go away, disable all music ingame, if it doesnt work, disable all sound ingame, its when you talk to a npc who also has some sort of sound added to it , thats when it fails on you.

But yes all in all archlord is a grind game like lineage 2.

Don't think the SWG plug ever will be pulled, still people who love the game for what it is, i know the memories i have with SWG is not something i want to let go, regardless of how the game is now.

You should join the Darkfall forums with the rest of the DAoC hardcore keyboard warriors there , TheMerc guild if you played on same server as them.

Else i'd recommend, well nothing whatever is out now is useless.

Now betas are there to test the product behond what the devs think of however theres an increasing issue with betas these days many many players are starting to treat these betas simular to singleplayer game demos and 'reviewing' them as finshed products.

Sometimes they are right on the money however knowing that very few MMOs actally release with 100% of it's content and/or intended features, are players looking behond a test product?

Take LOTRO for example that was completely slated for it's lack of 'endgame' content and game content in general yet it's expanded it's content greatly or TR atm for it's 'lack' of PVP content and yet the devs have stated although pvp content wont be at it's fullest on relase it will be there in a few months.

Theres lots of MMOs ut there today that according to just their beta realeases should have died on realese take EVE for example that was near death itself but it's one of the most known Scifi MMOs out there..

Back to my point, are the opions of a 'beta reviewer' seeing the product in full or just seeing an 'as is' state? Should these be totally ignore and jugdement be left a few month after release when the game 'should' be at it's 'intended' state (or lack of)?

IMO betas are a test prouduct not a finished one, with any game that allows for content updates devs will proply never release the 'whole game', just the core game on release and then add the needed extras later on.. With these days where Singleplayer games want to explore the online world more I think we are forgetting that a MMO doesn't follow the game 'rules' as a console game and are viewing them in the same light. With that said betas IMO should not be used as a point of review to a MMO and jugdement should be left until the product is finished not when it is still being tested.

Imo , yes beta's are a test product as you say, but once released it still won't be 100% done , allways something that needs a little touching up, which they fixes as they go.

For thoose people who don't get into a beta the beta reviews might be a good read for them to be able to decide if its something they wanna play, but surely the devs should stick to the truth and tell people the facts.

This is all old news and has been the template for a long time. Complaining about the design does nothing, and the fact that the sub is not required is beyond your reasoning of just because we have 3 characters it can't be done? Star Wars Galaxies released with ONE character slot and is still going.

Lots of games keep your characters low, stashes small, and have content upgrades rarely. It isn't the PRINCIPLE of it at all. You just want to moan about something to see your own type.

You can't even come close to put SWG and Hellgate next to eachother, SWG is a open world not a instanced game with only a station as a meet up point.

Not to talk about Housing , advanced armor / weapon crafting, oh yea spaceships , the list is long.

But yea basicly 10$ wouldn't hurt me at all , but then again im not going to play hellgate my self.
