This sounds more along the lines of Trapping in SWG as opposed to disarming traps in dungeons and on treasure chests or whatever.

And you know DnL's server will be down alot how? Anandtech?

As for their population, as long as they clear around 50K subs, they'll be just fine. It just means people will actually know each other, rather than having 90% of the server being anonymous strangers. There are plenty of games out there with a small playerbase that do just fine.

-------

Think about it.... servers cannot be up at all times and that is why most mmorpgs have a more than one server. So when one goes down, others are up- not so with DnL. Put a whole population on one server, its going to be laggy. There is no way that its going to get 50k sub. With 50k sub, hardly does everyone knows eachother.

As somone else pointed out, you just cluster your server.  So you have ServerA and ServerB in your cluster.  Take ServerA down and it fails over to ServerB.  Minimal to no visible outage.  Upgrade ServerA, bring it back online and fail back over to ServerA.  Take ServerB down, upgrade and bring it back online.

Also, when they say "One world", it doesn't necessarily mean it's one server.  Actually, if you go check out BigWorlds architecture, you can utilize a server farm and still have one single persistant world.

The only reason I wanted the collectors edition was for the pet dragon, but I couldn't see spending $40 for that alone.  Went with the regular DVD version.

I think what you get is worth an additional $20, not $40.  However, I guess if you are into collecting items like this, you'd probably pay the extra $40.

For me, it's too expensive for what you get.

I think both Doom 3 and EQ2 both have superior graphics HOWEVER, this pic that you show to represent DOOM 3's capabilities seriously looks like a paint by number.  I think in comparing the DOOM 3 representations to the EQ 2 representations in this thread, EQ 2 definitely looks more "life like" where as the Doom 3 ones look more comic book like.

Yes, if you want PVP, you probably should look toward Dark and Light or Vanguard.  I believe both are centralized on PvP.  They will probably hold you over until EQ2 figures out what they are going to do on the PvP front, which as others have indicated, won't be until after launch.

I'm sure they will have PvP at some point, but it's a matter of them figuring out how to handle that, be it consentual on existing servers or dedicated PvP servers.  All remains to be seen.

I think one of the issues today is alot of people base a game SOLELY on how it looks only to find out later, it sucks.  Look at AC2 for instance.  Incredible eye candy, but at release, this game lacked every other aspect which makes a game good.  I'd prefer to have the "rigid" characters you mention and have that fixed during an update and have good content at release, personally.

The Ultima series comes to mind right away.  Have you ever seen Ultima 1 or 2?  That was like a game completely done in ascii art, but the content in the game was awesome.  They have 10 sequels to prove that it's content that makes a game great, not necessarily eye candy.

I believe EQ2 will be great, for me, at release because I believe that the amount of content that will be included will be enough to keep me occupied to the point at which they add more.  Powergamers might feel differently.  At some point, SOE is going to make a judgement call on if they are ready to go live or not by taking into account the mechanics, content and looks of the game.  If they are probably withing 80% of what they are striving for, overall, then it will probably be a go.  That 80% marker is the average of the different aspects of the game, so be sure that if you're solely focused on the way things like, it could really be at 60-70% of what they promised where as another aspect, like mechanics is the item which is brining the overall up to 80%.

So, for me, when EQ2 is released, I think it will be perfect.  However, to you (or someone else) it may feel very unfinished.  Can't please everyone all the time, but I think they will try to make things right for those who feel slighted as soon as humanly possible.

I was just wondering why there are no "traps" in dungeons and no disarm or find trap skills for the rogues?  I was playing NWN this past weekend and rolled a rogue to play and creeping through the dungeons looking for traps and disarming them was a cool aspect.  It seems like it would be a simple aspect to include in a class based fantasy game that has rogues.

Nope.. I believe SOE's official stance is they are not revealing any server names prior to launch... Not sure why that is though..

If that's the case, why does SOE have their top end machines in their "Game Lab" slotted with 6800's?

Well let me end this NOW then. If you have no interest in playing the game, please remove yourself from the game's forums and stop causing trouble.

Do you even know what the function of a moderator is?  Obviously not, so let me explain it to you.  He's there to ensure that threads are relative to the boards they are posted on.  There doesn't happen to be a "Flame Board" here at MMORPG for good reason.  If there was, he'd move the post.  Since there's not, he's doing his job.

Go learn some net etiquette and then come back.

What motherboard is it?  Most Motherboards will tell you what processor speeds they can handle.  Your best bet is to check the website of the manufacturer since it's probably more updated than the mobo manual you have.  Alot of companies will release new BIOS versions to handle newer processors of the same architecture (i.e. 478)

Out of what you said, if you were looking to do just a $500 upgrade, I'd say drop that $500 on a GeForce 6800 256MB card.  Then later you can always bump up the processor/memory etc.  I think that would get you the most performance increase out of those components.

I think the only thing they have said in regards to this is that it will be more than one per server.

Hrafn Warband was a good Guild in DAoC on the Guinivere server.. I remember running into your leader (his name slips my mind at the moment) when I was like level 5 in an area I should not have been (everyone else was like level 30+)... I volunteered to pull for them.. I died probably about 30 times that day only to be rezzed instantly... it was loads of fun.. I was a part of Wretched on that server...

Anyway, I was wondering what TZ the majority of Desolation is in?  Cause I currently play CoH and a there's serveral people I play with on the weekends which I can't during the week cause they are West Coasties so they are always logging on when I'm off to sleep.... :)

Thats all

::::31::

I dont quite understand what you mean by your first question but to your second question No , people cannot rob items that you store in your house. Everyone starts out with a house at the beginning and i belive its the same way as final fantasy xi housing where as you enter the same door as everyone else for the else but each player basically has there own seperate ''house'' or room or whatever i think. Im not exactly sure i could be wrong about that.

With guildhouses all players from the guild can all be inside at the same time in the same place.

EQ2 Qeynos Guild- http://eq2imperium.proboards15.com

No need to worry about people stealing items you leave in your house, because you can't:

"Presently, there are no plans to allow item storage other than furnishings in the house. i.e. your house is not a secure bank"

Stratics Artcle which has the info on Player Housing.  This quote is at the bottom.
