What I expect  to see in this game:

To be polished, both graphically and by near-perfect coding

To be a BIG adventure game, but mainly for soloing

What I DON'T expect to see in this game:

Good PvP

Sandbox concept

Interesting crafting

If this all comes true, I'm sure I won't be playing it. So many MMO's were so well advertised, but ultimately FAILED to catch my (and so many others') prolonged interest in it.

I tried them all: LOTRO, AoC, WAR... and too many "smaller budget" MMO's...

The only two which really were worth investing time and money (IMHO) - Pre-CU SWG and WoW (which I still play on and off).

Frankly, I was dissapointed too many times, so I'm not putting any hopes in this game.

We will see how it is when it's finished, and I'm not going to follow it's developement. Ultimately, that's just  a waste of your time.

I need a good reason to leave AoC for a WORKING game, and this may be the one...

I was getting regular BSODs when using shader 3.0 on a quad-core, but that was settled in a patch few weeks ago.

I am an ATI user, and have zero problems.

AMD Phenom 9500
4GB DDR2 PC6400
ATI Radeon 3870 512MB DDR4
VISTA 64-bit (no SP1! - Phenom 9500, 9600 users, don't install it!)

HAVE YOU EVER played any other MMORPG in your life? I HIGHLY doubt it.

Same credit card/timecard procedure works for just about every other MMORPG on the market.

YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO HAVE ANY MONEY ON YOUR CARD, it can be "locked" if you ask your bank to lock it, it just NEEDS TO BE A VALID CARD.

It is a PROCEDURE, nothing else. You can even enter a valid card with lots of $ on it, but immediately after registering your account YOU CAN CANCEL RECURRING PAYMENT, so the company doesnt take 15$ after your free 30 days.

One more thing: for creating an account in WoW, EVEN USED TIMECARD CODE was valid.

So quit your whining, and ask your friends/parents/relatives to help you out.

Boy, I'm so fed up about these "bombastic" titles, like there are some serious issues about this WONDERFUL game to make anyone bring back the game to the store.

What's not to like in the quests? You even have exact spots you need to go to on your map AND your mini-map (like in certain WoW addon)... If you don't like quests, go play asian grind-fest games.

There will always be fanboys and there will always be doomsayers. You just got to ignore both of them and try to be in the middle. Its like this now with every single new MMO and its getting ridicoulas I think these forums have just turned into flame war after flame war with no real facts and the people with the real facts get ignored.

We get ignored indeed, I even installed Xfire again to prove I'm in AoC beta (check my xfire sig).

For the last time, beta works great to me, I have loads of fun, preordered both US and EU versions (waited on AoC for 3 years, as I am fan of R.E.Howard's works since childhood).

This is what WORKS in beta, played many hours on these two:
AMD Phenom 9500
ATI Radeon 3870
4GB DDR2
MS Vista 64-bit Ultimate

AMD 64x2 4800
NVIDIA 8800 GTS 320MB
2GB DDR2
MS Vista 64-bit home basic

First of all Wizyy I'm not calling you a liar.  Thought I would get that out of the way before anyone started to jump down my throat.  I find it interesting that you state AoC is running fine on a system running vista home basic as that OS is not even remotely aimed at gaming, especially high-end gaming.  The official MS description of the capabilities of home basic are :

Windows Vista Home Basic is the edition of Windows for basic home computing needs. If you only want to use your PC for tasks like browsing the Internet, using e-mail, or viewing photos, then Windows Vista Home Basic may be the right edition for you. While it won't provide as many benefits as Windows Vista Home Premium, it will help you use your PC more easily and more safely than you could with Windows XP.

If home basic runs all modern games just fine then a lot of people are being misled by both microsoft and system builders everywhere in order to get them to buy home premium instead :)

EDIT: distracted at work, haven't read your post well, but seriously, I can GUARANTEE you that there is NO DIFFERENCE in gaming on Ultimate and Home basic. Ultimate is just all eye-candy, not a single "acceleration" for games. Home basic HAS DX10, and not a single thing important for gamers is removed.

And it takes only a few fans lieing about the game to get people believe into it. Remember when there were huge discussions about open beta technical problems? There were dozens of fans, or at least it felt so, telling that closed beta had none of those technical issues. I was one of those who wanted to believe. I want to get a new game to play, so I'm more eager to believe into Age of Conan being a good game than a bad game.

Then remember when fans announced that closed beta had a huge patch wich solved most of the bad technical issues? We had dozens of fans telling us how the performance that was bad previously had now miraculous improvement. Those same fans who were telling that open beta didn't have any performance issues before.

We were directly lied by the fans back then. We're most likely directly lied by the fans even now on many of the things. There is even a screenshot of Funcom manual posted on here stating that maxium siege size in AoC is 96 people (48 on each side). And there are fans on the forums who are speculating that there might be printing error on the manual, and fans who were speculation that only the efforts of 48 from each side would be counted to final score but more would be allowed to the actual raids.

Fans don't want to believe anything bad about their game, nor admit anything bad about their game. They use any explanation they can find to explain how everything in the game is good and will turn into even better, and every problem is either downplayed or most likely we get told that it's a problem only with the beta.

And when the fans can't deny the problems any more, they often attack those who raise conserns of the game. They being to form own group of fans where they can conveniently live in their illusion, and demand for everyone who has diffirent opinions about the game to be removed from their forums. That happened when Vanguard was in beta, if you remember.

*Sigh*...

HELLO AGAIN, calling me a LIAR? Mate, there were technical issues in open beta AND in closed beta, to the point of me not wanting to log in, but TO ME they VANISHED in the "miracle" patch. Still, I can't say that ALL problems are gone for EVERY USER.

There are many configurations, great many video cards, shader and OLD DRIVER problems, problems with people experimenting with different driver settings even though they have no clue what they do, and so on... Some people will ALWAYS HAVE PROBLEMS IN ANY FREAKING PC GAME just because they have no clue what they are doing.

I don't have any problems with closed beta at the moment, enjoying every moment of it (currently at work so I cannot ) even though I know some people HAVE THEM. So don't generalize everything and call every person a LIAR. Sheesh.

What I can't understand is why some people keep bashing on the game they haven't even tried.

They form opinions based on rumors, and even ENCOURAGE (yes, quoted) people to CANCEL THEIR PREORDERS?

They even dare to call us Closed Beta testers LIARS.

I never formed an opinion in my life on something I haven't experienced, and I believe that's also the case with the vast majority of SANE PEOPLE.

I've preordered 2 versions of the game, payed for early access for 1, SO WHAT?

There is NO DRAMA here. Go and find something more useful to do with your time, instead of these LAME CONSPIRACY THEORIES.

Moderators, please delete this UTTER GARBAGE THREAD, maybe a warning or timed ban would be appropriate too.

Amazing how ones mood can swing from extremely happy to very sad in a day. There is no way my PC can handle AoC in PvP as it is now.Maybe it minigames but that's it.

Tried all kinds of setting but nothing helped.

Sad to hear that, post your specs, maybe we can help?

I can tell you that - for example - 175 beta driver for NVIDIA and 8.4 catalyst for ATI helps alot.
Also, it could even be that there is a debugger which causes memory leaks on 2GB systems (I have 4GB).
Lastly, if you did not already, try to manually set all your options on minimum or disabled where applicable, to see if one of those messes up your enjoyment.

PvP has its issues, but those are NOT what the OP said - fps or lag.

Occasional "gliding", not showing you're in stealth when you should be, and maybe difficulty in targeting and spotting the enemy among friends. That's all EXTREMELY patchable, boys and girls at Funcom just need some input from REAL PLAYERS, and not the doomsayers' ramblings.

For naysayers:

http://i26.tinypic.com/hx6fkx.jpg

The game is FEAST FOR THE EYES.

I just enabled shadows (under ctrl+right shift+c) and it added a new layer for reality.

I wish I can show you some screenshots from some carnage I had... but I think this is all I could, it's on Tortage teritory, accessible to level 13.

My rig:
AMD Phenom 9500
ATI Radeon 3870
4GB DDR2
Vista ultimate 64-bit (which intentionally shows on ss)

Ok, time for the trolls, can't imagine what imaginary fault will they find now.

CONFIRMING THE IMPROVEMENTS TOO!

I am in closed beta AND the open beta...

People, I was AMAZED when I logged in today after patching the closed beta client. No hitches, glitches, lags or anything! Game even LOOKS so much better with improved shading they did today!

Now this is a game in shape for sale, and I really wonder, like so many people before me, why did they allowed so many people to see this very laggy game that WAS AoC until today. I will log in open beta later, but I heard it's not patched to this beautiful thing yet.

Oh well, these bad feelings are all behind us now, and I'm happy to say, see you all in Hyboria, where HEADS WILL ROLL!

Glad to hear it!  I actually didn't believe it would happen.  So, I'm wrong and I am okay with that.  I would rather the game be shot down on its own merits than over some hardware issues anyway.  If nothing else, I'm glad to hear that Funcom aren't complete morons.   Convince them to re-do AO now...I liked those concepts a ton.

They ARE re-doing AO.. later this year (if I recall correctly) it's getting a new graphics engine.

I googled, found this among others:
