The UI actually has been through about 3 major changes.  The first UI in phase 1, early 2 actually had your toons head in the middle and was animiated.  that was causing performance issues.  The UI you are speaking of was the second UI.  They did not have a lot of features into the UI at that point so it was almost like a placeholder.

Try must me the UI is much better now then it was.

User Interface is the best one i have used so far.  Everything is layed out nicely.

Best part is you can just about customize every little peice of it.  You can put windows wherever you want, and make them as big or as small as you like.  There almost no reason for Add On.

I been in beta since april of Last Year.  I will go over two of the classes that were cut:

Choppa:

Main issue with the choppa was it had a very hard time closing the gap with nuking classes.  Due to light  armor / low hits it was almost like target practice for nukers/ranged.  The Choppa was very close making it back into the game.  Don't be surpirsed to see it added back in.  It just needs a little tweaking here/there

Knight of the Blazing Sun:

Yes this was actually a playable class back in 07!  This class was actually Overpowered.  It blew the other tanks out the water.  They would have to had revamped the entire career to bring it back in line.  It was by far my favorite tank.

my review is below.  See the last paragraph

I have been a beta tester since the end of phase 1 testing.  I know that there are a lot of negative comments being thrown around, some are valid most are not. If you have been in beta for over 7 months you would truly appreciate the way the game has shaped up.  I have been through about 4 different UI's, 3 different combat systems, and about 40-50 different classes.  Yes i say classes because the way the classes were built back in 07 compared to now are very different.  For example the original design for the Chosen was very much like a DAOC reaver (pulsing AOE effects), now it's more similar to a DAOC Paladin/Reaver mix.  I even got to play a Knight of the Blazing Sun.  When it was originally released it was extremely overpowered with it's abilities, by far was leaps and bounds over any other tank in the game.  So let me get to some negative points people have been bringing up.

Slow Combat -  This was due to a issue with latency when a button was pressed.  Keep in mind there is a global cooldown, but almost all MMO's have that.  IT was causing attacks to be very slow.  This was actually fixed last weekend and was one of the things Mark Jacobs wanted fixed before NDA dropped.

Crash to Desktop : This is actually new issue.  It just recently started with the CE Closed beta.  The game actually never cashes for me

Horrible Graphics -  The entire graphics system is not in the game yet.  However, like i said if you have been a beta tester for as long as me you can definitely appreciate the improvements that have happened with graphics.  This is mostly due to the fact that the graphics system wasn't totally implemented.  Each new phase of beta the graphics would get slightly better.

They cut 4 cities and 4 classes : I honestly feel the other cities would have spread RVR to much and the game would have turned more into race vs race then RVR.  Keep in mind the has been built for RVR not race vs race.  These cities are amazing, nothing like you have seen before.  They put other capital cities to shame.  Now on to the cut classes:

Choppa: I played a choppa, very fun however was extremely underpowered.  The choppa had a lot of issues closing the gap with nuking classes.  It was almost like free RP's.This class needed a huge upgrade.  I"m sure it will make it back into the game.

Knights of the Blazing Sun :  I played this class as well.  Totally opposite of the Choppa.  When this tank was released with the Ironbreaker, Chosen, Black Orc, it was leaps and bounds better then these tanks.  I really think they just didn't have enough time to bring this class back in line with the other tanks.  Swordmasters were not even released at this point.

Blackguard: Was never released to the beta during any phase.

Hammerer : Played this class, was a very very fun class, but again had balancing issues with other melee DPS toons.  It outplayed the choppa in just about every way.  This class was  a lot of players favorite early in the beta.  It was taken out to be revamped but it just never really worked.

I know this is a very long post and i hope it has brought some insight into the class cuts and some other game play mechanics.

If you not going to read the entire review i will say this.  If you are expecting WAR to be state of the art, brand new MMO that has never been seen before you will be disappointed.  It is revolutionary, not evolutionary.  The game is in great shape and the bugs are minimal.  They still have a few large patches left.  The most important part of a game IMO is the fun factor, almost everyone that logs in has fun, if you want fun this game is for you.  If you want RVR, PVP you will not be disappointed.  Ironically i really enjoy the PVE as well.

"1. I am really struggling to get used to the combat action delay. The closest game I have seen to this is LOTR where they que up abilities. It is hard to press an attack and not have it happen immediately. Makes it so I have to actually look at the buttons instead of the field of battle to figure out what's "plan" I am on."

They fixed this

pretty interesting, WAR seems to be outselling Madeden, Spore, and WOTLK on amazon.  Pretty amazing stuff

What big games were being released when AOC was on the market?

Pretty cool

there is 60K codes printed for the collectors edition (only 60k copies made).  The idiots at gamestop/eb were giving people who ordered the normal version of the game the CE codes instead of the regular pre order code.  This was causing huge problems.

AN EXCLUSIVE GAMES WORKSHOP MINIATURE

From the Age of Reckoning to your tabletop battle!

Based on original characters from the game, this official Games Workshop Warhammer miniature depicts the Greenskin warboss, GRUMLOK, and his shaman, GAZBAG, in rich detail. Assembly and painting is required.

Armed with the great axe Gutrippa and imbued with extraordinary powers by the Witch King, Malekith, these inseparable companions possess abilities beyond any normal Greenskin. Through a combination of brute force and cunning intellect (for a Greenskin, at least), Grumlok & Gazbag are able to unite the tribes of the Worlds Edge Mountains in a mighty WAAAGH! and sack the Dwarf fortress of Karak Eight Peaks. Now they set their sights on nothing short of the eradication of the Dwarfs completely.

AN ORIGINAL GRAPHIC NOVEL

The forces of Order and Destruction collide under the red Chaos moon!

Commissioned specifically for the Collector's Edition, WARHAMMER ONLINE: PRELUDE TO WAR is a full-color, 128-page hardcover graphic novel that sets the stage for the start of the game. Written by acclaimed Games Workshop writer, Graham McNeill, the oversized book is richly illustrated by Chad Hardin, Joe Abraham, Rahsan Ekedal, Tony Parker, and Kevin Hopgood. Each of the graphic novel's six chapters tells a unique story that together detail the events leading up to the Age of Reckoning:

  • Hill of the Dead — The Chaos warrior, Tchar'zanek, undertakes a harrowing quest to cement his place as the dread Champion of Tzeentch.
  • Shadow of the Hunter — Famed Dark Elf hunter, Kaloth Coldshadow, journey's to the Old World to capture a Greenskin leader to aid the Witch King with his plans.
  • WAAAGH! Grumlok — Grumlok & Gazbag unite the Greenskin tribes in a mighty WAAAGH! and lead the assault on the Dwarf fortress of Karak Eight Peaks.
  • Thunder Mountain — The Dwarfs rally against the invading Greenskins under the shadow of the great volcano.
  • Northern Fire — The Empire fights a desperate battle against the invading hordes of Chaos.
  • The Shining Guard — Tyrion and Finubar, the Phoenix King, wrestle with the duties of protecting their homeland and aiding their allies against the forces of Destruction.

There is no bait and switch, there is a ton more that come with the collectors edition then that actual bonus gamestop is showing. If you are that pissed off about it, cancel your pre-order on the collectors edition and order the one from gamestop.

I personally ordered the collectors edition for the novel and miniature, i can really give a rats ass about the 3 day head start.
