"I Know! Why not just look at the "User Rating" under Vanguard's MMORPG profile where thousands of gamers have rated  it already from...1-10 as well....."
Only 646 people have rated the game. lols

One of my problems with guild interfaces is that it's very hard to see some type of manpower tree.  My idea for a guild interface is to more or less have a Tree structure with the guildmaster at top, followed by his officers and so on down the list.  For promotions all you would have to do is slide the character to the correct slot on the tree.  Thoughts?

here is part of a press release from Mythic just after they clustered DAOC servers

More Than 1,500 Players Participate in Single Realm vs. Realm Battle in the Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game

FAIRFAX, VA - FEBRUARY 9, 2005 - Mythic Entertainment®, developer and publisher of the massively-multiplayer online role-playing game Dark Age of Camelot®, today announced that the game's Realm vs. Realm (RvR) clustering patch resulted in one of the largest battles ever seen in an MMORPG. Last night, players participated in a massive RvR combat session where more than 1,500 characters simultaneously fought one another on a single battlefield. RvR is Mythic's unique implementation of Player vs. Player (PvP) combat, and this unprecedented RvR session was made possible through the new server clustering technology, which was launched on several Dark Age of Camelot servers on February 8.

Talk about jumping to conclusions.  I actually thought it looked VERY polished for a game in alpha.  The graphics are far more better then WOW and keep in mind it's alpha.

Keep these things in mind:

It's a year away from release

We have know clue what level these toons are.  For all we know they could be very young toons

Looks like game music was off

They have colision detection, i rather have STIFF movement then some kid who can press the jump button constnatly and jump through me. Actually on that note I don't see how movement is stiff.  They toons hardly moved.

I loved the video and looking fwd to the game.

Hello all!  I will be bringing my small guild over from DAOC and WOW to WAR.

We are a small tight knit guild, we are not elitists and we all play casually.  We are PvP and PvE oriented. We do not require vent.

Our website is located at www.darkaurora.net.  It will be redesigned for WAR

*if interested shoot me a PM or reply

thanks

"what will make this game better for me is if they had more than 3 vs 3 races .... more than 4 vs 4 races but if they had atleast 6 or 7 races on one "team"

for example in WoW theres the humans , dwarfs , gnomes , elfs so 4
and on the other team trolls , tauren , undead, orcs

THEY NEED MORE THAN THIS because of the simple fact... people will see it as ezactly the same as WoW.. and to be honest i think it looks too similar at this time. they need to make something that stands this mmorpg out from the rest... chuck in some new classes / races!!! comeon!!!!!"

Less races big deal, talk about how classes are unique to each realm in WAR.  There not 1 unique class in wow, you had paladin and shaman, now with BC expansion each realm get all the same classes.

Oh and BTW look at all the damn races they can add to the game via expansion.  It's amazing

Alpha: What began in July. I made the grievous error of calling it a very early beta, for which I am terminally sorry. I will regret that until I die. Alpha does not have anyone playing who does not draw a paycheck from Mythic.

Double Secret Beta: What we will be in "Soon, TM." That is just beyond alpha, and includes people who draw paychecks from Mythic and selected partners. STARTS: Summer 2006

First Stage of Closed Beta (Beta 1): What we are in now. Sometimes called "Friends and Family," somewhat inaccurately, this is a stage where there is actually a game, but it is not usually very complete or even stable for that matter. People who don't work here are in this stage,  but usually fewer than a hundred, and they are nearly all such old, old friends that they are often mistaken for employees. STARTS: Fall 2006

EDITED TO ADD, 11/9/06: Tragically, when I originally wrote this document in mid-July '06, I was still learning the EA ropes. I defined "First Closed" with the old Mythic way, because we were a pretty small company. Now, with thousands of employees around the world, this phase of beta is "EA Employee Only." Double Secret Beta is EA Mythic Studio Only. In this first closed phase, we begin including people outside our studio, but bound by the employee NDA.

Beta 1.7, After Things Stop Going Boom Every Day: This is the stage you'll start seeing community testers. People who have tested for Mythic for years, or have been otherwise recommended to us as quality volunteer testers, are starting to be included. There is usually a restriction on how many people get in at this point, and often perfectly wonderful people are left out. STARTS: TENTATIVE DATE: Early 2007

Beta 2: Still closed and covered under NDA, invitees include prize winners, guilds that win the guild contest, and some members of the print and web media - usually the ones we have relationships with. People who work at GW retail shops are getting in here, and we've got some plans for existing Dark Age of Camelot players to be invited to check out their new sibling. There will be up to a thousand people by the end of Beta 2. STARTS: TENTATIVE DATE: Early Spring 2007

Beta 3: Closed, NDA. This is where Lady Luck will wave her wand. We will be choosing randomly from the giant pool of people who are subscribed to our newsletter. This phase will have thousands of people invited, possibly as many as ten thousand.  STARTS: TENTATIVE DATE: Summer 2007

Final Beta: No NDA. Because there is no NDA, people often refer to this as "open beta." But I wanted to be really clear with you guys - we are not planning the kind of open beta where everyone with internet access can download the game and hop in. That's nutty. Right now, we are tentatively considering having everyone who pre-orders the game invited to this phase of beta. This phase will also invite winners from our big media promotions. STARTS: TENTATIVE DATE: Summer 2007

Mythic has stated over and over and over again this is not DAOC 2 or DAOC with the warhammer name.  The only thing identical is the RvR name.  Even the RvR will be totally different.  If you are thinkin this will be DAOC 2.0 you are gonna be totally disapointed.

the only thing that looks similar are the graphics b/c wow is built off of warhammer.  They are totally different games.

" A) its a fad B) its easy C) Blizzard fanbois..."

1.  Warcraft has been around for 10 years or so it's far from a fad.

2.  WoW is as easy as other MMO's, what your definition of easy?  Cleaner interface?

3. Fanbois?  When you have a good series of games for over 10 years, i suggest you would have a fan base.

Blizzard marketed the game great, they appealed the game to the average gamer, and they have a great IP.  That is why WoW is the leader.

I heard rumors of EA making a Harry Potter online.  If that ever happened i guarentee you it would have more subs then WoW.

povey after reading your threads elsewhere i come to conclusion all you like to do is bait.  You know WAR will not have this, i even love your comment on the hype page.  Please go bait elsewhere, also you seem to be historically wrong on your statements.

Povey151 this point is you claimed it was a powerhouse.  It never was near a powerhouse.  EQ and UO blew it out the water, then about a year and half later DAOC came out and stuck the nail in the coffin for Turbine.  IT was a original not a powerhouse.  Why is UO, EQ, and DAOC still running with decent numbers and AC not?

Look at all Turbines games.  They create it then after a few months they basicly stop supporting the game.  I would be very skeptical about LOTRO.  If it does not do well i would expect them to cut ties on it just like they did with AC2 and basicly AC.

from mmorpgchart.com

"Launched on October 31, 1999, AC has been one of the most difficult games to get good subscription numbers for.  Historically, both Microsoft and Turbine were reluctant to give out their figures, perhaps because they were not the big success that UO, EQ, and DAoC were.  Still, I’ve managed to get a few data points that I consider reliable, and removed a few that I have since determined to be erroneous.  AC1 saw a peak of around 120,00 subscribers after the release of its first expansion pack, AC: Dark Majesty, but declined not long thereafter to around 80,000.  The current number of AC1 subscribers seems to be uncertain, but the switching of the game’s billing from Microsoft to Turbine has cut the number of paying subscribers drastically.  As of March 2006, AC1 had reportedly fallen to between 10,000 and 15,000 subscribers, although that number is disputed and could be closer to 30,000 "

I would barely call AC1 a success, when it was released there was 3 MMO's to choose from.  People decided to play EQ and UO instead of AC1.  Then DAOC came out and destroyed AC1.

They wish they had a fluke

Something ironic.  When mythic (devs of DAOC) come out with WAR it will prolly crush LOTRO.  History repeating itself.

"AC1...although not as powerful as eq1 or uo....is one of the original 3 powerhouse mmorpgs. Almost any player of ac1 still believes to this day that nothing has compared to the quality of ac1...no fanboi about it...if you got into it...it really was this good"

I'm extremly sorry to inform you but the original 3 powerhouse mmo's were

1. Everquest -  Still doing good
2. Dark Age of Camelot-  Still has a very good fan base, and best pvp game around for over 5 years
3. Ultima Online- Still has a fanbase, and even getting a complete graphical upgrade.

4. AC1.....dead as dead about 2000 subs

In that order.  AC had about 140k subs, then it sharply dropped

AC1 was one of the 3 original's not POWERHOUSE.

Here is some info from mmorpgchart.com.

"The industry-standard set by WoW may just be met and exceeded in some ways by AoC, but I don't think any MMO will ever be as successful as WoW has been"

WoW didn't make a industry Standard.  Most people that play wow never played a MMORPG before.  The MMO community is a tight knit community and 3/4 it prolly dont even play WoW.  People who play wow i don't consider people who truely love MMO's, just kids or people drawn by the warcraft name.

WoW is far from innovative.

I would say the industry standard is 500k-800k subs

AOC is a niche community, you wont even come close to WoW's numbers.  WAR might that about it

everyone seems to think the 18+ will stop kids from playing, what it will do is prolly bring more kids in the game due to the rating.  There a million ways to get around a M rating if ur a teen.  Honestly i dont think parents look at ratings that much anyway.

Just b/c LOTR is the biggest fantasy novel does not mean it's going to have the biggest fantasy MMO following.  Warhammer has a bigger game following then LOTR.  They have a few successful games arleady.

Novel and gaming are completly different.

*If you think this game will get more then 100k-300k subs your smoking crack.

"It's like Star Wars"

Yes thats why SWG is so successful.  Even when it released it didn't break 500k
