On a similar thread on the official Ryzom forums, 9 have voted for a wipe, and like 76 have voted against. The voters being avid Ryzom players. Long time customers, and so on...

FYI...

I've read through this whole thread. I cannot find anyone in particular that I would like to quote and respond to, so I'll just say what I have to say.

I'm against a wipe. If a wipe were absolutely necessary, I would deal with it and try to replay (quitting soon afterwords).

I worked very hard to get into the veteran category. I'm not "elder of Atys," but I came in soon afterwords.

I have a few 250 skills (and many more lower skills). But, I know it took me 2 1/2-3 years to get just a few 250s, and with loads of help. Those skills were gotten while I was in high school, with no social life and no job, and they still took me that long to get.

If there was a wipe, I would never be able to consider myself "leet" again. Knowledgeable, yes. But I would never be able to back up my knowledge, because I don't have the RL time to get multiple 250s in a few months. I couldn't do it the first time in a few months.

But, gaining my levels back would be the worst of my problems if I had to deal with a wipe. My main character (Keiko) is like a piece of my soul. If she was to be destroyed, I would feel as if I had lost a piece of myself. (kind of like a really really really bad break up with someone you really really really love)

Keiko and I have been through so much together. There is no way I can just recreate that by starting a new character. I've tried it with new avatars on Ryzom (I made a new avatar on the Cho server, and...meh), and I've even tried to build a character on new games, which results in an epic fail on my part (yes, i wanted to use epic fail in a sentance).

So, in conclusion, I'm against a wipe. I'll try to play if there is a wipe, but like with every other game, I doubt I'll be able to stay long due to a lack of my soul.

--------------------

In response to the wipe gathering new players. I dont see it being very beneficial to anyone. Like many have mentioned, older players will just power level (IF they have the RL time) with their knowledge of the game, guilds will be rebuilt, along with alliances (see Kami/Kara Alliance) especially if outposts are still in play, and all will fall back into the same way of life...just without the "veterans" character back stories.

There needs to be content, advertisement, and a rework of the missions/quests (to begin with) to attract and keep new players, not a wipe. Mostly the advertisement and mission/quest rework for new players. Content for older players, and later new players (who will in turn become old players..with more content).

Of course, if the content isn't added (after the missions and ads), then the player base will falter, and Ryzom will be auctioned off again!

Yay for vicious circles!

As i said here:

I was just thinking about this a couple of weeks ago. I think that if a developer took away the focus on Harry Potter and made the world exist just in the "Harry Potter" world, then it could definetly be a possiblility.
*Note I haven't read the seventh book yet, so sorry if I get things screwy*
There will need to be some kind of 'enemy' though, be it something along the lines of more death eaters, or be it crazy dragons and giants.
I would also think that while a developer should include Diagon Alley and Hogwarts (if they place the world in 'Europe') there should also be other new places. Maybe have a plane ride (floo powder ride or whatever) or so to the US or to Japan or something similiar and have a completely imagined world created there with only the basics from JK Rowling in it.
It might work, if a developer took it enough away from "Harry Potter" and made it more their own. *grumbles* Kind of like the more recent movies.

and...

I understand your concerns about the maturity of the playerbase but I don´t think it´s possible to find a mmorpg without such people.

From Macsen

Ryzom. A game not advertised like it should be, but one of the better communities out there.

The best thing about playing Ryzom is that you can level up any and all skill trees. You can be a level 250* offensive magician (nuker) and a level 250 melee. So you dont need to just stick to magic related skills.

For the magic area though, there is defensive magic (heal), offensive magic (nuke), Offensive and defensive afflictionist.

There are also a multitude of melee, craft, and harvest trees for one to explore as well.

*250 is the highest level possible at the moment for Ryzom

Jackoba, I belive you're just a bit to angry about it all. Why dont you calm down before typing up flames that could burn. All you seem to offer are hateful and harsh words. People were unsure about some CSRs and wanted them investigated. This was done, and although they found the things mentioned to be untrue, they did move things around.

Whether they moved things around because some people quit, or because they found it necessary to move things around doesn't matter. It's a moot point. What matters is that there was an investigation, stricter rules have been put in place to keep anything from happening, and CSRs were moved around.

Stop throwing slurs. It's useless, and shows other possible players that the Ryzom community has idiots just like other MMOs. Not to say you are always an idiot of course.

I know I shouldn't respond to one of the issues raised here, but I cannot help myself.

For those that think the banned player mentioned is responsible for the petition and any of the posts regarding the petition, you need to get your head checked. I know that player very well, and have had to correct his english many times. As long as most of you who are complaining have played, you should know that that player's english just isn't that good.

The issues at hand are not to get the one mentioned, unbanned, but to have all the actions of certain CSR(s) investigated because they have acted unprofessionally on multiple occasions.

As mentioned here, if you believe these CSR(s) have done nothing wrong (which, of course most of you would if you'd been shown any type of favor), then you should not react so, hatefully and flamingly, to a petition for investigation.

I'm sorry that you are so upset with whomever this person is that you must try to call them out on a public forum. As someone earlier mentioned, it shower great immaturity on your part.

It is very possible for someone to play on more than one computer, especially if each computer is set up in such a way for easy access. With the Ryzom ingame macro system, all one really needs to do is make a macro for whatever needs to be done and press a simple button. Very simple. You shouldn't call out someone else as a botter because he or she is just good enough to use more than one computer.

I've never tried to use more than one computer, simply because my connection wouldn't be able to handle it, and I'm not sure I would be able to. I have a lot of respect though, for those capable enough to use more than one computer, as should you.

Reading this article has really gotten me excited about R2 and has restored my interest, a little, in The Saga Of Ryzom.  I cannot wait until the Ring is released.
