It is certainly curious that early patches were very effective in improving gameplay, but that later patches appeared to break things all over again, and send performance in a downward direction. Which said, this latest patch IMO was pretty good - it started to fix fundamental issues (like skills not working) and put in place mechanics that helped reduce powerlevelling. |

Just struck me that if there were any sense in which testing a PC game could help perfect a game in time for Xbox 360, this PC paid beta to Xbox gold idea seems to be an interesting one, which takes advantages of the particular character of PC gaming. We may come to see more of it, especially if there is a future for MMORPGs on the Xbox. |

It is seems pretty clear that PC players are currently paying to test this game before it is released on XBox 360. It seems not such a bad idea - why?
a) because PC players are more tech savvy, so are more likely to be able to cope with difficulties and find solutions b) PC players more patient about dealing with bugs (despite what you read in forums) c) PC players probably have more disposable income, so don't mind paying to beta test so much d) PC players are willing to pay for mid beta level quality, in return for playing before console players e) there is less of a brand risk to bad PC games... if XBOx messes up, it hurts XBox as a whole; if a PC game messes up, the developer takes a bit of a knock but no-one else really bears any consequences f) PC players will test out many configurations and craft their own mods and uis, which Funcom can adopt, and use to improve the game pre XBox
any other thoughts? |

You know things are out of whack when a yeti bile - a basic ingredient for a crappy alchemy recipe (which only just started dropping in a temporary fix from some absurdly rare 'alchemy kits') costs three times more than an epic two handed sword. On the trader today, in Cimmeria: One 'Edge of the North' two handed epic sword, 1 G 50 s One yeti bile - anywhere between 4g and 7g. Hmmm... |

AOC forums have proved extremely addictive; - the breathless cheers as early patches smoothed everything out better than anyone had hoped, - the delighted early gameplay discussion, laughing at the merchants of doom, -the souring as content disappeared in the 50s, -the inevitable anger over class balances, -the persistent failure to fix basic gameplay issues - discoveries such as 'female melee toons are 25% worse than males' with no comment for days - the striking deterioration in performance with each recent patch - the confusion as Funcom swung from one game design decision to another with no information (scaling grey mobs anyone?) - the disastrous first battlekeep siege - a classic lack of any useful communication - the exponential rise of forum trolls, forum moderation, and complaints at moderation - the angry implosion of the forum community - the continued failure to introduce promised content (drunken brawls, dx 10? etc) - the patch that has been delayed hour after hour - the crash of the forums altogether Now that's what I call a great narrative! What lies next in store? Stay tuned! |

nice try, but the kiddie speak does not really work. It reminds me of wow forums, and is not funny there either. |

Enjoyed the game plenty til level 50 or so, and believe there is a lot of potential slowly being realised here. But I did not renew today for several reasons. I will be back when some of them are addressed. 1 - Crafting is a broken mess 2 - Sieging does not work.. so I would rather wait to get to 80 when it does. This was the highlight of the game for me, so it not working is a major issue. 3 - Dungeons like the Main System are a miserable experience. Hard to get a balanced group for it (all players need to be within 5 levels); the elite mobs hit you for YOUR level, whatever level you are - ie, no point going back when a few levels higher. as they will scale with you, but the drops and xp will not. They are public.. meaning there can be some fun pvp, but getting even to the second boss can take hours. And respawns are intense, so one wipe and you have to start the whole dungeon again. 4 - Travel times. Well, this is more a question of taste, but there is so much travelling to get all the limited content that it gets old fast. 5 - Stats still a total mystery and probably do not work. 6 - Itemisation still limited (for my HoX at least) 7 - Excessive class imbalance. Tempest of Set are raid level mobs. It's a travesty of a class. 8 - Stamina system means it takes longer to run around the higher level you are, and makes melee progressively worse against casters. 9 - Solo content slows down considerably. 10 - Performance has been declining for the last three patches or so. 11 - No real community evolving, because of the zone instancing 12 - No PVP rewards, lack of PVP incentive. 13 - Almost no fun sidequesty things to do... missing a sense of life and polish past 40 or so. 14 - Instances are boring to look at. 15 - Zones need work. They are very variable. Some zones, like Thunder River, are fantastic. Others are really unpolished. 16 - Too much grinding. My whole guild is now grinding one high level zone. It is not alone in this. Its a travesty when grinding is deemed for fun than dealing with the horrors of dungeons. 17 - my female toon suffers a significant penalty etc There is a lot to like in AoC; its just not finished. I hope these issues do get addressed, because if even some are fixed I will be back for sure. |

Oldest story in the book. People enjoying themselves are playing, and for the most part on the official forums. People who aren't are here bitching, and misery loves company. So if you are enjoying the game, don't spend too much time here. |

There are two camps on this. a) adjusted human beings who enjoy a fun game and good pvp combat, who agree that spawn camping should be stopped, because it is not pvp, it is exploiting game mechanics. b) pathetic whining brats who think that they should have the right to take advantage of load screens and what have you, and swagger around like the playground bully, killing people as they spawn, and then scream like little babies when told they are being antisocial. As to griefing outside of spawn points... well, it is possible to switch instances in this game, so if it gets too bad that's probably the best way to deal with it.
But the idea that e-bullying is "hardcore" pvp is nonsense. Anyone who suggests otherwise is probably too weak-minded to understand how pathetic they are. |
