Dear Customer,

Please disregard this email, this process is a scam that will steal your
bonus codes. Any and all emails sent from GameStop will have our domain
- @gamestop.com. The link on the email takes you to a mock AOC page
requesting your bonus codes be entered, the thieves then keep your codes
and sell them to someone else. Once again, please disregard this email.

Thank you,
Eddy

the weird thing is they direct me to http://register.ageofconan.com which I think is the official site?

And they give me a 'unique code'. And there is nothing to be entered right now. If it's a scam, which I think it must be, I can't quite work it out.

I received an email regarding my AoC preorder from this address.

I am naturally very suspicious.

Anyone else get something like that?

Thinking that this was maybe just that particular game, I tried others, including WoW, CoH, FFXI, L2, to name but a few.

It was incredibly frustrating, as instead of feeling immersed in those worlds, I just got the impression that my goal was to level, get better gear, etc.  Where was the sense of story that would draw me into the game?  Single player rpg's such as Baldur's Gate 2 managed it, so why couldn't a dev produce a persistent world that had the same sense of story and drama as that?

Now, I have heard quite a few things in regards to Lord of the Rings, and it sounds promising.  Immersive quests, that are not the generic 'find this, kill that' variety, but actual story-arcs, which can be played with your friends, and give the same feeling of verismilitude that single player rpg's create.

LOTRO is a charming game, and ideal if you prefer a slower paced game experience.

Its been a little while since I played, but aspects like the music system are excellent, and high quality pervades the entire game experience. The community is for the most part supportive, and there are plenty of light RP opportunities if you like that kind of thing.

The combat takes a little getting used to, but there are some interesting classes here - try a dwarf minstrel! - and it can get pretty frantic well everything is flying.

Some of the best moments are just hanging around in a town square, and seeing what people are up to.

There are a number of kill this quests, be warned, but the story arcs are well done, and an important leap forward in MMO narrative technique in my opinion.

From what you wrote, I would argue that this is a game well worth buying. Personally, I left because I was looking for a game with world pvp... but for a pve experience this game was a joy to play.

I am interested in applying to your guild, as I am attracted to any older more experienced group - but I wonder from the rigour of the application form what you mean by 'casual' in your thread title.

I consider myself on the more active end of casual, but as a dad cannot always guarantee fixed numbers of hours per week at specific times...

Regarding classes, am pretty flexible at the moment.

cheers

Very fun idea - I hope it works in practice!

What time zone are you in?

I always had this theory that with all those knockbacks they may actually be a surprisingly good pvp class.. plus if its as relatively unpopular as it seems, it may get a few sneaky buffs to lure people in.

Seems that very few people tried the Guardian - can anyone point me to any reviews?

A Herald of Xotli can stop OTHERS from moving, and thereby have a better chance of getting off their own combos since their target isn't able to move out of range.

As to whether or not a Xotli is like CoV's Dominator...not really.

At least during the PvP Weekend with its level 20 restriction, the Herald of Xotli was almost opposite in that there were a lot more melee abilities than there were ranged abilities.

The aforementioned stun/root thing didn't refresh frequent enough to make the Xotli seem like a "control" class.

The demon form though, its useable every now and then sorta like the Domination deal. 'cept its on a timer rather than having to build up through fighting towards it.

Really, CoH is too incredibly different to try and compare those two classes, or any two others. Fundamentally though, I'd say they're different due melee and range focuses, but no tellin' how Xotli's pan out later on.

OH, I see - thanks, very helpful

PS sigh.. I am missing my dominator now. Really one of the most fun classes I ever played - it was such an interesting combat style

Not sure I fully understand this point... is it a good or bad thing that their combos go off when they are rooted? I do not fully understand the combo dynamic...

They do not fire while you are moving, but can you set them up so they do go off the moment you do stop moving?

Thanks

Sad to see my favorite class gain so much in popularity but people were always bound to see the light, I guess.

I have a question - it strikes me that turning into a demon has similarities to the CoV domination function for a Dominator.

ie a regular, but not that common, moment of superpower, which you can save up for tricky moments. Squishy melee... with cc. I came to really enjoy the gameplay.

Is this a fair comparison?

On a more serious note, I am surprised no-one ever did a take on the humerous Hong Kong martial arts movies; perhaps in a more modern setting.

Honestly, why would you be married if you're not having sex?  I hate to go off-topic, but I couldn't leave this one alone.  For a week? Are you kidding? Might as well be single again, lol!

Lol ... you are obviously not married, or married not for long. After 12 years of marriage, there are a lot of things that are more tempting than sex .... like sleep, like MMORPGs,  or 24 ...

Well, it depends on the mood but you get my point.

Always amusing to read about hardcore mmo players talking about all the sex they get!

I guess that with every newcomer to forums and computer games, people will ask this hackneyed old question.

It is inevitable, as is the thought in the questioner's mind that he or she is being dreadfully original.

Well, far be it from me to stand in the way of education. It is just irritating that such questions are asked on a relatively informed forum, which should be spending timne in more interesting debate.

Perhaps it would be helpful to create a 'new to MMOs' discussion, so people can ask these questions somewhere else - thereby allowing those of us who have been through this a million times before to avoid the sensation living in a goldfish bowl. It woudl also be wonderful if new forum users could spend a couple of minutes looking through past debates, rather than reinventing the wheel on a weekly basis.

On the other hand, perhaps I am being a grouchy old curmudgeon who should stand by and let the young'uns have their fun, and nod supportively.
