Physics are hard to do online because of lag and exploits. Things like flying fireballs hitting moving objects in real time in an MMORPG wouldn't work. The reason you see all this Select target-attack target- loot style gameplay is because  easy to send that small amount of data online. If you put in real "twitch" style combat in an MMORPG it would be so laggy and inaccurate that it would never work. (at least with the average internet connections people play with)

We can only hope something like this comes up further down the road. Lets hope its skill based like dark messiah and not level based.

it's interesting - I am normally pretty influenced by metacritic scores and this one really sank, so I never gave it a look see. Overall, I find metacritic is not far off.

But this was a hidden gem, and they missed it.  Even mroe so now - only 20 US on valve (which is why I grabbed it) and it seems that the bugs that caused people so much grief at release have been ironed out. Sure, it's on rails, but I can take that - I still play oblivion for sandbox entertainment... (am waiting for the fixed up version of Witcher before I get into that)..

/shakes hand at the MMO gods - you see what you did? you got me playing single player!

let's hope Conan is up to snuff... It seems to be approaching some of these gameplay concepts, although still class based. in the meantime, its a great joy finding this under-appreciated star of a game

If they made non ffa servers, they could get another 200k subscribers. That would ensure that the game wouldn't go under. Also, with all that extra money, coming in, they will have lots more money to develope the game, and make it better.

I don't see how anyone could be against this.

what they need to make is a game

I agree. But I'm so tired of it that I don't even want to talk about it much anymore. I've waited for years, the future looks very dim. There are a few possibilities (Darkfall, Earthrise, Earth Eternal maybe, probably one or two more), but we'll have to wait and see. But the big money isn't going to give us anything different. I'm about tapped out on the whole thing.

Oh, I haven't bought a new game since City of Heroes. Beta'd LoTR, too much instancing and grind. Keep watching, keep waiting. But I'm not buying another one of the same lousy experience.

if you don't want to talk about it anymore, why are you on this forum talking about it?

add: as per last post, this came across wrong - what I mean is, if you are that tired, just give it a break for a while. These things are so much more fun after a breather. If you are tapped out, use it - change hobbies... this will be here when you come back, promise, and you'll enjoy it all the more.

add: don't mean to be an ass on this, but you are a regular poster here and it strikes me - just empty your head of this genre for a while, go learn to play the guitar or something, and when you come back you'll find all sorts of entertainment will be there to be had.

a watched kettle never boils.

this is looking good... looking forward to seeing some magic classes to get a feel for how they differ...

I wonder, do you need to click the button for the combo? Or if you memorise the swings, does it work anyway?

Wow - why did no-one tell me about this game before? It's really fun, and the combat is very cleverly done.I know the multiplayer needs a little more balance, but it strikes me that here was a really innovative way of mixing up different game classes in fast paced battles; kicks, shield bashes, ice slicks on the floor - and a skill based system... so much goodness!

I would love it if someone created an MMO which had this kind of feel to it... has anyone tried?

What a horrible horrible list. THe site lost all the credibility it could possibly have. The one who wrote it obviously is very very young if he doesn't even remember the launch of not so old video game Pool of Radiance Ruins of Myth Drannor that could wipe your operating system or a launch of Elder Scrolls II - Daggerfall that was just unplayable. And there are tons of other examples that would fit there more than steam 2, vanguard or even hellgate.

why do people act like such drama queens for something as harmless as a gaming site having a bit of fun with a botched launch list...

no list is perfect for all people, but "horrible horrible.. the site lost all credibility" - c'mon. Overstatement does not strengthen a comment, it weakens it.

Go back to WOW noob. POTBS is a great game, and even with declining player base will survive long into the next century. Look at Vanguard, it is doing great after all the WOW babies left. We don't need cry babies in the red circle. This game is for real men, and just gets better with each cancelled subscription.

I tried it, got bored, but was considering coming back. This kind of comment leaves me so cold that I will definitely not be going back. I know absolutely well that it is not representative of the player base, but I fear it will become representative of the player base if things continue like this.

edit: oh, just realised it was satire. apologies. still, it does highlight something scary...

Just wondering, would there be an option to turn off / censor nudity?

love it.. in a thread about gore there is a discussion of censoring nudity

hey - if you find nudity disturbing, ok, i have no argument - each to their own.

But i have serious questions about the mental health of people who think decapitations are ok, but breasts are immoral.  In fact, I find that very disturbing indeed - it is ok to sever a head and murder someone, but unacceptable  to see breasts, the source of sustenance and life? wowee... what up with people?

hmm.. personally i would not enjoy watching a coyote getting smashed by an anvil, but I am strange that way

All said and done, none of this makes the blindest bit of difference to me regarding wthether I will buy this game.

I never rely on one review anyway - and find that in aggregate the broad picture emerging from multiple reviewers is not too bad.

I tend to find that games in the 90s in metacritic are genuinely better than games in the 70s... shenanigans notwithstanding. If a review site is stupid enough to score according to ad dollars received, it won't be long til it loses credibility and clicks.. and therefore more advertising dollars in the long run.

What I would love to see in an mmo is the kind of moves you see in God of War - especially the parts when it goes all cinematic, and he performs a series of amazing stunts.

I know it would be a huge challenge in a large persistent world, but until something like that happens, MMOs will always appear a little pale next to the single players.

I appreciate AoC's efforts to jazz up MMO combat and  am very much looking forward to playing this game... but I don't yet see the leap forward visually I was hoping for.

Maybe it's better in the experience; MMOs always look far more dull in videos than they are to actually play.

omfg...

Fast, fun and furious!

hmmm...

I have ore-ordered this game and have great hopes, but that video has a a certain kind of MMO robotic old gen feel to it to my eyes. The characters look a little wooden... some of the animations are nice but most are not very fluid. Ah well, not that I mind that much... but I simply don't see why the omfg fast and furious is warranted.

So, the support is basically a statement that any dev that genuinely follows these principles of open gameplay will have a ready and willing player base - rather than any actual belief in this particular game?

OK, I can see that...

I saw a post in recent topics, but had no idea there was a voyage century forum - where is it? It does not appear under released games, or games in development on the left hand side of my screen.

Makes me wonder what else I am missing.

You may have a good point Safwd, However I know that mmorpg will delete post that get out of hand and will probably do the same for NDA breakers, after all i'm sure all the game companies pay the bill for this site, its all part of MARKETING.

I guess my quest has ended, they have all angles covered, were not gonna get anything good or bad.

I just can't get into 20 web sites of  exclusive features until I even know if able is REALLY able to pull it off, in both content and release dates.

Why do you use capital letters for the word marketing?

For the most part, forum dwellers here seem to be a relatively skeptical "show me and then I'll believe you" kind of crowd. I applaud this as its based on a realistic approach to the world.

So please help me on this Darkfall game.

Don't get me wrong - I love the ideas too. I think the description of what could be is wonderful.

But there is almost no evidence! Really, the screenshots are ugly, there is a dearth of information, updates can be months apart - I simply don't understand how this game has such a following?

How on earth can people be so excited about something that there is so little to show for? Is this a cult of some sort? Are there free drugs associated with enthusiastic forum posts? Are there babes involved? What is it ?Coz it makes no sense to me. I simply don't get it - please explain.

Intriguing - I never knew of this relationship. A bit of Cthulu would of course be very welcome in any MMO... and interesting to see it in a high fantasy scenario.
