maybe you aren't fully appreciating quite how awesome some of the games around today really are... they are truly extraordinary achievements IMO. MMOland is seeking its next masterpiece, but as a whole I find the game industry is rocking like never before right now |

Probably not surprising that rangers and barbarians are in the lead, followed by assassins, but it is encouraging to see that the rest of the classes are relatively even. (although I suspect that there are probably more templars than guardians out there)
edit: interesting - assassin slipping back in rankings... so really its all looking quite balanced now apart from the two leading classes |

The CC aspect makes this class very interesting - question is how they will handle cc in pvp... will there be a different rule-set? |

What amused me in an AoC thread was that people seem more interested in gore than boobies. I, for one, find boobies more desirable and healthy than decapitations, but then I guess that's considered a bit weird by the moral authorities in the US - who clearly feel the other way - and much of the gaming community. Anyway, a simple solution would be to add a "gore" function for those who want to see little red pixels splatter around, and leave it gore-free for the rest of us. Now if only they would do the same for boobies, I would be happy. I want my choppa's boobies to be in plain view. Same goes for the jubblies.

I always like to play the least played classes in an MMO, for a sense of relative uniqueness. There is another thread discussing the merits of the different classes, so I do not want to derail that, but I would love to have a quick numerical scan of what is more or less popular. So, without further ado, please click on the class that initially attracts you most. Thanks!
NB - Sadly, there are only ten slots for a poll, so I pulled a couple of classes together - a bit random, I know, but there you are. |

Played PotBS for a while, wasn't for me; same goes for Tabula Rasa... so the next big hope is AoC. But are there any other MMOs coming out before then that might be worth a try? Thanks! |

I was enjoying this game plenty until I hit the level 20s zone, logged out one night - and I just could not bring myself to log on again. Its been a few weeks now. If the urge came, I would resub, but - well, it doesn't come. It's sad, as I am desperate for a new MMO home. This game has so much going for it - fresh gameplay, setting, good community, and yet, and yet, I just don't want to log on again. Perhaps its the thought of sailing halfway across the world to pick things up at the AH (yawn), or the fact that all the PVE is the same, and all the ports are basically the same after a while, or the fact that I will never have the joy of a port battle because I am a casual player, or that fact that if I get sunk I have to buy a bunch of new outfitting for my boat (yawn)... Whatever it is, I want to enjoy this game, and I salute the devs for trying something new... but I just can't seem to bring myself to come back. I am asking myself what would change that, or whether I have to accept that PotBS was a fun enough week long fling, but she wasn't the lass for me.

I agree. Neither a solo game, nor a casual game. To enjoy what it has to offer takes a good amount of time spent working within a society. |

I would recommend trying the game if you can afford $50 on a speculative purchase. There is a lot going for it - and it may be the breath of fresh air you were looking for. On the other hand, if you have limited play time, you will probably find yourself getting bored of this game after 20 levels or so. The PVE is fine... but starts repeating itself. Even the ports start repeating themselves - a number are exact copies of each other, Which means that in the longer term, the pull of this game is the player-driven economy and the battle for the map. Both become serious long-term endeavours, which you have time for or don't... I no longer do, which is the way of growing older, so this game is not for me. But the community is friendly, and it is definitely a pleasant place to spend a few hours. For the mostly solo player, with limited time to dedicate to a large society - I suggest that there is about 20-30 hours of enjoyment here before you get bored. Is that worth $50? Depends on you. |

Just seems sad that this giant beautiful mmo ends up as a big pissing match (in wow forums) between arena players - which amount to a couple of small circles to run around in. such a great game in so many ways, so undone by the lack of warcraft in the 'world'. The ultimate insult: thread after thread whining about arenas (ahead of 2.4)... if that's all Wowo players do any more, why not play guild wars? more arenas, cleverer skills... cannot wait til either AoC or WAR bring back world-based pvp again

I upgraded my pc, so started playing Oblivion again on the highest settings. Wow - I had forgotten what a great experience it was - the world is so alive, and so compelling. What I love about it: - skill based approach, tempered by 'class'. Ie, you get better at what you do, although you have areas of focus. (ps I use Oscuro's overhaul, but the basic point stands) It's flexible. - the world is utterly beautiful, goes without saying, but so realistic also in the way it behaves. NPCs are all up to something. There are not legions of mobs waiting around to be aggroed... in a forest there are a few wolves who come at you here or there, or a highwayman who accosts you and asks for your money... but in a way that feels real. The pacing works. - insta-travel if necessary, but so many compelling little things on the way that you don't want to insta-travel. You want to explore all the nooks and crannies. - a wealth of mini-dungeons, with characters in there that speak to you... who are doing things - not just waiting for a party to aggro them. - quirky fun side quests everywhere. Take the guy, right at the beginning - who rushes up to you and says he can't talk now, meet him behind the church at midnight. There are a million examples. It's so alive... Now I realise that there are major challenges in getting this level of detail in a persistent world, but I will hazard a guess that someone somewhere will work out how to do it. I am hoping AoC will start to approach this... but I did see a couple of videos with mobs just standing around waiting to be aggroed - which murders immersion for me. I wonder from the vets here - how long would you say it will take before we get a game that approximates the Oblivion experience?

Way I see it, the first twenty levels of this game are plenty of fun, as you work things out, get the general feel of the game, try out what it has to offer. After that, you basically have to decide if this is something you can envisage spending many hours in or not. I have thought about it - and can see the potential, but truth be told I don't think is for me. Perhaps because the exploration is basically so limited - once you have seen ten ports.. well, you may not have seen them all, but they do start repeating after a while. There are only so many types of mission you can do before they start repeating also. Which leaves PVP, which is interesting, but also requires a fair amount of PVE grind in terms of sinking NPCs, unrest missions and so on. I can certainly see why a good society will find a lot to enjoy in this game. As for the casual player - ah well, take it or leave it. It's a nice relaxing diversion, a fresh take on combat; and the economy is very clever etc - but it does take a certain type to devote the hours to really make this fun, I suspect. Personally, I will enjoy some of my muliplayer games and come back to MMOs for Conan. But I wish this game all the best! |
