We want deep, meaningful MMOGS that last for years, and then we want to be able to travel anywhere in less than 5 minutes. That doesn't make sense. If you want to feel inmersed in a huge world, travel has to take time.

An MMORPG often cost money to play, they are big, more serously game gender, but its not just for kids with 10-15 hours per day doing nothing... People who have a life, family and a work, what about uss? Well the fast traveling going to be in WAR, you can choose places and get there instantly...(?) I think i read it somewhere.. And the mounts is fast to get.. Not so hard to get to max 40 lv and i dont think the mount will come in the latest of levels. When you want to get to the other side, why not teleport with scrolls, teleport zones.. The game is still there. You can explore when ya got da time! ^^

What about you?  What about you!!??

I'll tell you what about you!  If you have a family, a career, and no time to play??  DON'T PLAY!  WORK, take care of your kids, your wife, your job!  I'm sick and tired of you people whining about it.  It's all me me me, why can't I have everything handed to me on a silver platter!??!  First it's instant travel, then it's free gear, then you get to have all the best loot in the game, free mounts, THEN, you can teleport to the end boss in the dungeon and one shot it!  Then only casuals are allowed to PvP because hardcore players are too difficult to kill.  Then there is no PvP, no stealing, no ganking, no killing anything.  Let go have a damn tea party and play truth or dare like little girls!!

Get over it!! Deal!!  If you don't have enough time to travel for 10 minutes and do a quest, then you don't have enough time for the game!  Use your brain.  There is a thing called LOGIC.  No time = No play!  I won't get more than 25 hours a week and you don't see me having a hissy fit about it.  I'm just so damn sick and tired of casual players thinking that the world should be built to their standards.  GO TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAMILY AND STOP PLAYING MMO'S!!!

Seriously, what was the point of that post? One day you'll understand that maybe after a hard days work you might want to play for 30 mins - 1 hour to relax and wind down. Life doesn't end after you have a family.

Couldn't agree more. This fellow needs to grow up.

In fact, if he has all these free hours to play, one wonders who is the person really having everything on a silver platter.

This does not bespeak of someone contributing much to society.

For those of us who may be able one to get on and play for 30 minutes, we can't afford to take 15 minutes to get somewhere. I understand some shape of realism is needed, but there comes a point to where it's a nuisance.

then a mmo might not be for u.. i mean, mmo is a world... u use alot of time in it.. u build up a char, u are the char. u need to feel u are in a big world. i understand some peeps dont have alot of time, but then i would say, id u dont have time for it, for a mmo... then maybe, its not the best place to play?

Nope; then the kind of MMO that you like might not for be wolfpackee, but there are many people who want am MMO which caters to people who have limited playtime on any one day.

So.. who does this game want to appeal to? People with hours of free time, or people without that . Who brings in the money, and which demographic are they looking for.

That simple.

There's been a lot of sci fi about ships that make use of quantum phenomena to flicker in and out of physical locations...

I imagine this would make a pvp game pretty untenable, but wondered if there were any imaginative uses in Eve of this kind of thing.

The inteligence of politicians amazes me even now...

Of course the irony is that under 7 year olds probably see a lot more nipples in their life than most game players.

Call me what you will, but personally I would rather see nipples than decapitations.

Personally, I think the graphics in WoW are tremendous - a powerful infusion of character into rather simple drawings. From a design point of view, WoW is extraordinary, IMO.

If only they could keep the sense of discovery alive at end game... but having played countless hours of the thing, I certainly got my money's worth.

WoW is a natural choise to compare other game's into because:
a) It's so huge and well known, that when I make a comparison to WoW most people know what I'm talking about. If I'd start comparing games to something like ATitD most people wouldn't know what I'm talking about.
b) Because it's very polished and well done, and currently has pretty much set the stantard for how polished and well done MMOs should try to be, it's a natural to compare other games with it.
c) Because WoW doesn't have much unique or gamebreaking features, but rather run-out-of-the-mill versions of every feature available, it's easy to compare other MMOS into it. I could also compare every MMO to Dofus, but since Dofus is so diffirent from most those comparisons would't be so good.
d) And because WoW hasn't been so hugely revamped as something like EQ2, when I make a reference to how WoW playes, everone who has ever played WoW has had about the same experience no matter what version of WoW it was back then. Whereas with EQ2, the game has had so huge changes that one person starting to play now has very diffirent game experience than one who started to play it near launch.

So no matter what you say, when I have to compare one game into something else. First I try to comparing it to WoW, and then to other games if needed.

Edit: That being said, when the reference of WoW is just somethig like "if thats what you think you should play WoW" without any other clarification on explanation. I think I agree that such thing should be avoided /Edit
actually, these are fair points.

My objection is not the reference per se, but the suggestion that when people suggest something in a game they are told to go play WoW as though it were a dirty word - much as you wrote in the edit We are in agreement.

I'll ignore the snide nature of this remark and enjoy the education. Thanks for the link,  it was interesting.

I wish that the DF team gave better updates. Each Dev update is somthing like... oh the arrows shoot fast or junk we already know about. As I read updates on other mmo's, they give good updates of what stage they are in during the making of the game. Makes me wonder somtimes,

now, I wonder, I wonder, why would a game company prove unable to say anything about the state of a game that no-one has seen anything of, apart from a lot of ambition, promises, 24 screen shots and an old video or two.

hmm... a real puzzler.

What on earth could be behind the fact that there are barely any details on the game, no beta dates, no release objective... where the news section on the site was last updated in  September 03 2007; July 24, 2007 before that, and March 23, 2007

/scratches head. I know!

Call in the Blues Clues team! Maybe they can help!

let me see now: Blues clue one: no new information. Blues clue two: no beta. Blues clue three:  same old  promotional stuff repeated ad nauseam.

let's get in the thinking chair.

any ideas?

Hey - I would like this to exist as much as the next guy, but let's be honest. Remember the Chronicle?

There was a convention once that if you mentioned the word 'Nazi' in a thread, you officially lost the argument.

I propose the same regarding Wow. The number of "if that's what you think, you should play Wow" retorts are getting out of control; I have been cruising PotBS, AoC and WAR forums in my search for a new MMO , and this kind of comment is everywhere.

It does not tell us anything! Wow, IMO, is an amazing achievement, which I loved while levelling and found boring once the instance grind began.... each to their own. But let's let people make comments about mechanics and design choices in the new spate of games without always bringing WoW into it. Please?

i only play 40 hours a week on average....but hardcore players will finish this game in a month or two....and i heard this game would be casual friendly/hardcore
"only" 40 hours a week... ie - around 6 hours a day everyday?

wow. how do you do that?

Looking for a mature guild, willing to tolerate irregular hours, primarily in it for the fun and not the loot (all guilds start like that... but...); which loves the thought of some fun hectic pvp, but is aware it'll never be the bestest greatest 24 hours a day all-conquering grinders.

Any good sites where I might find that?

Thanks!

I hate to say this, but if you are so upset just about bra brawls, what about all other features being dropped? Is it still the same game we were expecting 1-2 years ago?

hard to say really what it is about bar brawls... it was just so conanesque - having some classes changed, formations, prestige etc - well, I figure that's par for the course.

But something as fundamental as the bar brawl... for me it was about silly random messing around  - which is so important for detracting from the sense of grind.

It's not so much the change of mechanics, it's the change to the 'spirit' of the game that would worry me.

from foh

"Well it now definitely sounds like Funcom had a lot of cool ideas that they just didn't know how to implement: Prestige classes axed ("merged"), no bar brawling at launch (you can't even sit on chairs in a bar!), and hell for casters scrapped altogether... we'll have to wait and see if the relatively polished 1-20 game can convince players to remain subscribed."

What? I had thought that bar brawls were one of the signature features of the game, at least in creating an atmosphere. Now it turns out they don't even exist? Someone tell me this isn't true!

I wonder if this means AoC is effectively going head to head with WAR.

Before it looked like the lead time would give it the edge. Now it looks like more of a straight up choice.
