total nonsense. I have tried basically every arhechtype now, and they all seem to balance out pretty well. zealot is a decent healer... but its dps does not come close to the dps classes

Open w/e sold me... Looks to be a fun game.

Combat not as fluid as AoC, but in every other way the game is sooo much better. Well, the point is, it;'s a real game.

It is already apparent that WAR will kick AoC's royal but - which is a shame.. AoC graphics are better and combat mechanics defintely quicker and more twitchy.. but WAR RvR is unbeatable.. public quests are great.

AoC is simply not a big enough game to compete.

As much as I have been bashing AoC, I did not find this to be an accurate up-to-date review of the game, and feel missed a lot of points (both positive and negative)

This is the problem I have with casual players. They assume they should have everything available to them without working for it, and those that work for it there for have no life. The problem with this mentality is its no different than a kid crying about how "its not fair" and "i want it nowwwww".

The problem with Casual players is they want instant gratification and hate it when rpgs allow for more work = more reward. The problem is you people are playing the wrong genre and expecting the wrong things in regards to that genre.

Casual players are the cancer of the gaming industry, they help provide fun instant action games but at the same time end up causing rpgs to be dumbed down and fps's as well as some other games to be made shorter rather than drawn out.

WAR will allow you have your action, but you still have to work for what you achieve. Those who work more will achieve more.

Dont like it? Play a different genre.

Ugh... this kind of attitude... why don't all you horrible "work for your fun" people just go back to EQ and all stroke each other?

Work? If you call MMOs work you have no concept of work. MMOs are leisure.

The pvp sounds like a school sports day where they everyone gets a gold medal regardless of what position they finish.

Granted you have cities to siege, but as far I'm aware they reset on their own without the original owners having to fight to get them back.

There is no way to differentiate yourself from anyone else as renown only goes up, so no matter how bad you are at pvp you will eventually get to level 80 and be the same as someone who is truly talented.

With no competition where does the replayability come from?

What does this game have to keep people playing for more than a couple of months?

truly talented yada yada yada

this all sounds great to me right now...

the more arguments old style MMO players marshal against this game the more attractive it seems to a time limited father of two working stiff like me

Well seeing as you get 5 more mastery points and we able to pick more stats and resists, plus special armor dyes along with trophys for your armor. And various other rewards for getting up there,  I think it will be well worth it, it dosen't need to be a stat increase, the top players will get statues with thier names on it in the city, and i'm sure there will be alot more bonuses to be had.

Ah hah! I forgot about that. In addition, there is a low level quest that has new players polish the plaques of the statues of the top players as well. Now, if that doesn't rub the OP's ePeen the right way, I'm not sure anything will.

wow - this is great. ie rewards for no lifers, which dont skew gameplay. seems Mythic have hit the nail on the head.

Counterstrike is teambased game albeit a FPS but, its free..

The easymode selfsuficient classes they made for WAR seems to be pretty selfish to and not teambased.

They had to dumbdown class/combat mechanics for the noobs. The same noobs who would be standing out front of Drum Ligen and Frontiers DL or SF begging for a grp and not getting one.

I'm in a 200 man Guild for WAR, Im just wondering how long its gonna be before it gets borring.

Hah - the more people like you say things like this the more I like the sound of this game.

You use the word noobs? Hahahahaha!

I can play Counterstrike and get the same PVP fix.

Watered down (easymode) RVR is not my idea of a good pvp end game in a MMO. WoW was absurd ,I can understand that but, WAR is absurd in that some nobody joe that plays a few times a week for an hr is the same as you in just a few more days if that.

At least in DAoC you had to earn RR. WAR is fair to everyone and thus it dumbs down RVR ,imo.

Everyone is the same!      Its gonna boil down to what class is FOTM and youll have full Battlegrps of them.

They built it this way cause they think its easier to balance out PVP ,what they have done instead is dumb the endgame down.

Please please dont play WAR and please go back to DAOC. I will be delighted not tp play with people with your gaming philosophy.

I also think that order will, to start, be the more disciplined underdog side. But it will balance out relatively quickly. I get the feeling that many people will roll toons on both sides and will end up choosing the side where they feel most at home and most appreciated.

That interviewer comes across as a nodding fool who hasn't done his homework. And a total softball. Does he even play these games I wonder?

Anyway.. lots of focus on graphics coming up it seems.

Games journalists are so lame when they do interviews.

I'm not really in the know reguarding how duping works in AoC so this may be out of line but... it seems to me that nerfing a feature of their game because it could be exploited, rather than actually fixing the exploit, was the wrong way to handle the situation. Yeah, it screws the people who were doing the duping but it also seems to screw everyone else to.

Its like if your going to lose at a game of chess because the other guy was cheating, so you set the room on fire and run away.

The dupe was fixed before this.

it was fixed before this only in the most limited sense.

What happened was that the dupe was no longer possible. But by then literally thousands of gems had been duped, and they had remained in the game.

So in fact just to stop the ability to dupe was not a "fix" of the problem. The fix would be to a) remove the gems b) make the gems much less powerrful.

I see why they did b) as even bought gems were clearly skewing the entire itemisation, such as it is.

But in so doing they - as another poster noted - not so much nerfed as removed an entire game mechanic altogether. ie gems went from very overpowered to essentially worthless (although I guess that will become clearer in time). We do know now that three level 80 gems gives less bonus than a level 20 blue item. I guess they will reduce the blue items also?

Anyway. something was needed and this is better than before.

BUt wow - talk about crazy ass gameplay adjustments. Its really quite spectacular how they swing... I guess it reveals the full extent to which this game was barely out of alpha in terms of gameply design, let alone anywhere close to release state.

80 | Quenching Cabochon Star Sapphire | 1.4% Fire Invuln | 0.3% Fire Invuln |

This is a serious serious nerf, but tbh something major was needed.

Of course, now crafting seems rather pointless.

The sensibke thing woul dhave been simply to change the way plus damage worked - ie not add it into the base dps from which combos were multiplied - but there you are. Nerfing invulnerabilities even more is bizarre.

Sadly this may be too late, and upset too many people, but at least it was a way to deal with the rampant duping - just make the duped gems worthless.

On the other hand, those who paid for all their gems are likely to be miffed - although it was clear that some kind of nerf was going to happen.

It's funny though - from +8.9 to +0.5. Funcom sure don't nerf by halves do they.

Everything they do seems to involve major major swings. Makes everything so unpredictable. People know that mechanics change in an MMO, it's essential. But these swings sure test the patience.

Marky, I'm afraid you're sadly mistaken if you believe this.

over the next 15 years? seems likely to me...

then again, maybe wow really is a one off outlier. BUt look at the numbers of people online! The growth continues! Still, we may also all be headed for a long economic decline, so who's to say.

For the first year and beyond anytime Blizz patched the game it took 2 to 3 weeks to get the world server working properly. This was virtually every patch. Also they created lag, caused players to get disconnected and caused general havoc till they repaired it.

I was on countless raids when all of a sudden half of the 40 man party would be disconnected.

 How quickly we all forget.

played wow from the outset... it's popular to remind everyone "how bad wow was".. but it really never was this bad, i don't think.. or maybe there was so much other good stuff I never noticed the bad stuff as much

Anyone who considers themselves a PvPer would not be caught dead playing this game.  There is no PvP system.  The PvP itself is moronic.  It's basically who can one-shot who.  The 'revolutionary' combat system actually makes PvP insanely frustrating.

The PvE in this game is pointless and boring as hell.  Any guild bragging about their progression in AoC should be laughed off the internet.

So, it must be the roleplayers keeping this game going.  I mean the game looks great and there are...boobs.  It's like RP heaven.  RP on, RP on.

boobs? mate - they messed even that up

there is nowhere near enough sexual content to warrant anything like the hype it had.

heh - but you are touching on the greatest failure

It was actually a pve game, which suddenly noticed everyone wanted meaningful pvp, and in trying to change things at the last minute broke everything

they were faced with a dilemma - stick to the pve vision, and have a small but nore satisfied customer base, or hope that the game was suffiently robust to cope with a change of mechanics towards pvp play.

They took a gamble, they failed, and in so doing destroyed the pve game they had also (which was insufficiently complete - with many of the important instances bugged).
